Also on Port Forwarding if anyones struggling if you need to access your router config..
http://192.168.1.1/ (Asus, Draytek, Linksys, Zyxel, Cisco,WooWeb-Pro)
http://192.168.2.1/ (Belkin,SMC (some browsers need :88 added))
http://192.168.0.1/ (DLink, NetGear,Nexland)
And then visit Portforward. this is a great site for instructions with pictures: http://portforward.com/routers.htm Also, most manufacturers post their manuals online.
You need to forward your ports if you have NAT in order to get optimal speeds. This is one of the most common issues, people fail to configure when they use BitTorrent.
BitTorrent default ports are ports in the range of 6881-6999.

Also if you can't open your ports, try a port range a bit higher up... like 50000 sort of area, it could be your ISP blocking it (your ISP could be blocking common p2p ports).
I use 65535, works great. =D

Also another handy thing i would like to add is Mozilla FireFox plugins, I have the Torrentspy, BiteNova and the Torrenttyphoon Plugin. Excellent 'lazy' feature that saves alot of typing although i don't use public trackers as much i ust to their still very handy when my U/D ratio is getting abit out of control or if it's a torrent i don't mind waiting for.
If you dont have FireFox get it here http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ It's the perfect browser for torrents especially with all the plugins and Bookmarked torrent sites.
P.S all those intending to get FireFox look at Geestars pipelining thread OMG that increases the speed of loading pages considerably, which is handy when browsing while downloading Torrents

Quote: Thanks fella, I think I'll be upgrading when my contract finishes with Wanadoo,
hehe,i'm in the same boat
just about getting banned from them, for downing average of 80 gb a month on a 2 gb a month tariff
phuc em
going to switch to u.k online in oct
seems the best bet,all the others have limits and caps
just a little tip for azureus users
if you are downing from a private site, and using azureus, you must turn off DHT,
your upload's may well be shared by users that are not registered on the private site, thus affecting your ratio

read the small print, there are variuos things they can do,the worst is to cut you off and make you pay up your contract, lucky for me i have only couple of payments to make, then they can do what they like
if you are under contract, they wont let you leave without paying them up,and they wont give you a MAC code either

UK Online Broadband 8000, i think I'll have to go with them, but i'll have to wait until feb! I think I'll have to pause all my Downloads LOL.
A good thing about waiting is that UK online will bring the price of their 8mb Broadband down.

[edit]
Its preferable that i dont do anything through my router (probably not possible) because i dont know the password and it will take my dad ages to getting around to do it

Hey J-Kwon you were right about port 65535. I saw my download go from 120kb up to 435kb when i restarted the router. It's now between 350kb and 400kb on 49 seeds and 3 peers.

I finally located my long lost ancient email, no sign of any complaints yet, just a sh!t load of **spam** took me about an hour to delete it all
Also Hursty it didn't say anything on my statement which is good news.
Ports for Bitlord -
I use 65535, To use that port go to Options > Prefrences > Then type in 65535 in the listening port. Then set your global max upload rate to 20KB/s rather than No Limit. You have to configure your router to open the ports go onto your routers site (192.168....) I have a list off all of them above. Then go to http://www.portforward.com, And choose the default guide for your router
Ports for Ares-
I would reccomend changing to IM-L Peanuts that connects to 4 different networks,Every network used by Peanuts requires different ports to be
forwarded. The interface port 1213 should not be forwarded.
The network specific ports are:
OpenFT: Forward TCP ports 1215 and 1216.
Gnutella: Forward TCP port 6346.
Ares: Forward TCP port 59049.(If just keeping Ares forward that port)
FastTrack: Forward TCP 1214 and UDP 1214
Ports for Opera-
Change to FireFox it's so much better!
Also Password thing, When signing in its usually 'admin' in the admin box and 'password' in the password box. or try both boxes with Admin in
Hope that helped :P

I'm on the 8mb bulldog with no caps. Luckily for me i am sat right on top of the exchange so i get the best speeds. I was on 1mb for the last couple of years and would max out at 115kb. This 8mb is a killer. Have you read about the 10mb lines next year and 50mb by 2007?
