Ok both of you chill out. Loner, c'mon man easy with the language.

I maxed out at 132 KB/s a couple of days ago but It's usually sits around 115 KB/s. :)
Is that max download?

I just got back into downloading, and am new to torrents. but with torrents it all depends on the sites you use.

The best sites are the ones where you have to keep a postive ratio. I've downloaded at rates up to 600 KB/s.

wtf man,i am away from this thread for a couple of days, and all hell has broken loose..hehe
what has turned from a perfectly good explanation of downloading has turned into a mis mash

i suggest all that crap is removed from this thread,if possible
bitching can be done in the safety valve

@kwon,i have also pre-registered with uk-online :)
btw,i saw you mention the port number 6881 with Azureus....port 6881 is a common port that is used by isp,and should be avoided if possible,in my opinion
when the traffic is busy, they tend to "close" the network so to speak, causing slow dowmloads, they dont want a overload, port 6881 is the default on most isp
with Azureus i use port 6667

btw,i have many ports open, and have never had any serious attacks,i use nortons 2005.....no problems what so ever....so as for opening ports and getting hacked....yes maybe, but only if you have no security at the door.
then you are asking for trouble

Hursty i also have alot of necesessary ports, and haven't had any serious attacks

Basically you have to forward your ports so you can get optimul speeds :)

j-kwon whats up man?....cause of you i am now downloading at a total(# at the top of bitlord) of up to 560 kbs. and ive hit single dls @ 270 kbs. ive done everything youve said. i tested my comcast digi speed@ 3.5 mb. i have a linksys router and i dont have sp1 .thank you very much for jumpstarting me quickly. i have a question if u dont mind. i want to connect my other 2 comps to the router and install bitlord on them so i can use them at the same time. is this possible?
my router setup as of now looks like:

app........start.....end....proto......ips last digit
bitlord....65535....65535...both..........08

i have static ips for the compuers i wanna hook up. how would i go about the setting this up. im confused on the router page stuff. i woul really appreciate any info or direction you can give. thank for everything

Nice one soberone, so you want to set up a network?

You need to have network cards in each computer,

Then you need an ethernet (RJ45) in each computer.

Then your router should do the rest, if not ring up Linksys

The connection will be shared between three computers so you won't hit 270 on each computer.

Oh yeh try to download two or three at a time rather than loads at a time, It would be ideal if you could D/L one at a time then your more likely to max out

:P

Another thing i will mention is this for those with sp2,

Most clients can work correctly under Windows XP SP2 without patch However, limiting the connection attempt by the system may result in a slower speed at the beginning of downloading, since fewer peers can be connected at the same time. For those behind a NAT or firewall, the thrid-party lvllord patch for tcpip.sys to fix that SP2 issue

As the lvllord site is down it can be downloaded from here. http://mitglied.lycos.de/lvllord/download-mirror.htm Oh yeh i would reccomend backing up your registry before using this with something like WinXP Manager :P

Ta very much borriss,

I use a little something called Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Fireworks :P

Heres some info of Adobe it's worth buying if your a graphics designer which i am :P
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/

I'd stick with Paintshop Pro or freeware software if you want to make your own and I'm glad you like my minimal effort pictures :P

hey j-kwon...sry didnt answer for so long (vacation) anyways i tried all of the things u told me to but my speed is still at like 10 kb even though i am downloading files with like 200 seeders and its returning 50 peers rite now on the tracker thing......any ideas???
btw i got more than 132 kb/s before.....once i got 2.5 mb/s that was like the highest i could ever get but after that my downloads became really slow to like 10 kb or 20 max like sometimeslow... so any other ideas on how i can make my speed go faster???

@soberone Well once you set up static IPs for each computer, It should be a case of just choosing a random number listening port for each comp

Another port i would reccomend is 55555

so the network should be like this

192.168.0.1 - 65535
192.168.0.2 - 55555
192.168.0.3 - Random Port Number

I wouldn't reccommend running them all that the same time because i think you maxed out when you hit 270

So if you divide 270 by three your back to dismal results i would reccommend just downloading of one computer but you can give it a whirl on the other two. And if you can'y locate your computers I.P Address i posted a guide on how to locate it

@ animeluva nice to see you again, I want you to try something

SP2 limits the number of simultaneous incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts. The Lvlord patch fixes that and then you can make as many as you want it usually works best for P2P apps like Limewire and IM-L Peanuts, but I've found it works on Torrent clients aswell

Also Alien if your computer is quite old i would reccomend a Client called Artic Torrent especially if you don't have a good CPU because this isn't as powerful as Java, And it is good for low-end computers that have low memory and not a very good CPU http://www.int64.org/arctic.html I'm just guessing your Old PC aint right good so you upgraded, Dont worry if it doesn't concern you and you have a decent old computer it was just a thought :P

Its a 512kb connection and 400mb dl when reached max dl it gets reduced to dial up speed so no have to pay for the xtra dl :)

Ok will try that prog. the mem on the comp is only 192mb and cpu sucks bad. :(

Well theres no point trying to use Bitcomet on it, when a program specialises in them sort of situations :P A stroke of luck when you said old I didn't really know how old you meant but presumed it wasn't really up to date. Let me know how you get on :)
