@gurnard
You're welcome to post any scans from them G04/5 of yours. This is a thread I designed to put it in here specifically for Newbies, so they'll see and realize about the results from our scans about high quality media comparing to low, cheap, crapola and unknown media.
I'll be scanning some of my old Maxell's which I think they maybe Ritek a few months back, plus some of my crapolo CMC MAG just so Newbies can see with their own eyes. Cheers now. :)

kivory666,
A max of 4 PIFs is higher than mine, however I am comparing 8ECC to 1ECC. But if you follow the color code, I never see yellow on my G05 media.
I read that 4 is the peak for 1ECC and 32 for 8ECC. This is according to DVD disc standards. I get a Max of 10.
Oh ya! I was the one that asked for the G05 scans ;P
If you cant dazzle them with brillance, then baffle them with bullshit...

Quote: I think I was the one (or one of) who persuaded creaky to try some verbatum dvd+r media and booktype them to dvd-rom. He was a member of the dvd-r only bandwagon for a long time
@Mort81
I guess we're in the same bandwagon here. I prefer DVD+Rs and book typing them as DVD-ROM over any DVD-Rs. Most of my backups are DVD+R book typing in DVD-ROM because I want to make sure that every family members that borrowed any of my dvd backups will be able to play and enjoy them in their home dvd players, regardless of how old is their dvd players.
Honestly, I first started it out with Sony & Fuji DVD-R "made in japan", some crapola Memorex and DVD-R TDK, but since I've discovered Yuden, Verbs and Maxell (m.i.j), I've never looked back.

hehe, yeah, u were the one who asked me~ :) LOL...sorry it took so long, been busy busy w/ work...lotta patients during the holiday season..."FOOD COMA" seemed to be an epidemic, lotta people coming into the hospital~ :)
anyways, i have since been ALL OUT of my Riteks, so, my experience with them are/were limited to the 500 or so i used awhile ago...i still think they are GOOD "budget" media...but, u can probably tell, being "docTY" i am VERY picky about what i choose to use nowadays~ :)
good luck and happy burning...

alkohol,
I'm with ya buddy. To be quite honest the only DVD-R media I've ever used were those ritek G04's which as stated previously I didn't have much success with. Could have been because my old litey LDW-451S (boxed up in the closet now) just prefered +r media too. Anyway the ritek +r's got me started on the DVD+R booktyped dvd-rom bandwagon and I have never looked back. Never even tried anymore DVD-R media since and don't plan on trying any. Verbatum and an occassional TY dvd+r's for me till death do us part. :~)

Yeah, I have a bunch of TY DVD-R media left, but I did buy a spindle of Verbatim DVD+R to try booktyping and they're great! They load right away while the DVD-R takes a minute or so to load. The TY media is great, but I will not be buying the DVD-R format next time. I'll definately be getting the DVD+R format.

Here comes the CMC MAG aka Memorex -- oh.... God.
Here comes the SONY DVD-R, I burned this last year. Oh God, this is crap, Nero can't even finished the scanning, it stops at 79% only.

and people who use memorex always wonder why it is at the end is seems to freeze up, pixelate, or skip. you can see plain as day (this is directed to users who use memorex media) why it happens.

it's nearly half past midnight but just realised i hadn't checked back with this thread..the shock and horror of it, creaky abandoning a CMC-titled thread :O
Quote: I think I was the one (or one of) who persuaded creaky to try some verbatum dvd+r media and booktype them to dvd-rom. He was a member of the dvd-r only bandwagon for a long time.
- i've still got like 1400 Verb TY disks in stock but did use quite a lot of +R Verbs; i'm just gonna keep buying up as many Verb TY as i can for now, they're sexy :)
Quote: he was also one of the Verbatim bandwagon for awhile, until i pressured him into the Taiyo Yudens :) LOL...but, i guess he still wins as HIS Taiyo Yuden produced discs are still under the "Verbatim" branding~ HAHAHAHA
- lol i still only ever bought a solitary 100-tub of normal -R TY discs, it'll be a cold day in hell before i budge from the Verb TY's :O
right...i'm shattered, off to bed with Iron Maiden's awesome all-time classic "Hallowed Be Thy Name", that should fend off any bad media thoughts for the night.
keep up the bad media fight, i've hardly slept all week, have a beard that makes me look like Charles Bronson; we'll banish afterdawn of all bad media eventually, maybe we can push it all over to cdfreaks forums

i believe there is another way to do it if you have a Plextor drive...use the Plextools and there is a similar scanning program for your drive~ :)
i'm sure arniebear could elaborate on that as HIS scan is done on page 1, 28. November 2005 @ 08:11, using the Plextools~ :)

What version is your Nero? Have you updated your Plextor's firmware to its current version lately? Did you inserted your backup (DVD-R or DVD+R) into your burner first, then launch Nero CD-DVD Speed?

I updated the firmware yesterday and did put in the disc first. It will give media info but says drives not supported for cd dvd speed test. It will bench mark,Disc info, and scan disc. But wont do anything on disc Quality.

@ChrisC586 -
try the Plextools then, arniebear has an example somewhere in this one out of my sig - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193298
also you can use dvdinfopro (free) from www.dvdinfopro.com (use the version with adverts); however you have the superior Plextools at your disposal...

Do what creaky mentioned -- it'll be better that way since the Plextor has their own scanning tool.
And now here is another genuine Taiyo Yuden that I burned on 10/16/05.

If you have PlexTools use that for your disk scans, none of my drives including my Plex will work with Nero Disk Scan they are just not supported for this program but PlexTools will scan them all no problem.

I do have the Plex Tool and it's working great. My other 2 drives wouldn't work with Nero either, That's why I bought the Ultra figuring I had to have the better program to make it work. I've learned a lot between this Forum and searching the last three weeks for info on my own. You guys and gals are great! Thank you and Happy Holidays.

"SONY"................They are what they say, read the label. (Most have no quality claims, I wonder why? ) You get what SONY promises in quality and availble at your local "Circuit City" or "Best Buy" along with VERBATIMS.
