Try cleaning the discs before you burn them .. I had some old 4x Verbs that had been sitting around for maybe 2 years (in a sealed cakebox) and I was getting tons of CRC errors with them .. I tried cleaning several with eyeglass cleaner before burning them, and the errors became almost non-existent ...

Here's one that's a little small .. but it's an example of overburning ...
Sony/YudenT02 burned at 12x .. went over 8x at 14%, went over 10x at 36% and finally hit 12x at 55% ... total burn time 5:24

Those are some great scans, everyone. I'm not bothering to put up any of mine, since I don't see anyone getting too excited over a 95% quality scan of a Sony D21. It's not top end media, anyway, and most people already know to stay away from the Sony MITs if MIJs are available (and if not, stay away from Sony altogether. :D). I bought them just so I could try some 16x burning and so I could see for myself what sort of quality they produce. It's pretty sad when you're disappointed with 95%s when the average consumer (read: those who don't read this forum) are lucky to get anything over 90% with the lower end media they don't know to avoid.

In the opening post of this thread a scan speed of 8x is suggested. This actually is a bit too fast, as the scanning speed should be 4x maximum. The increased velocity will cause higher errror rates. Also, the scanning should be performed with CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) or the scanning conditions change from the beginnning towards the and as the linear velocity increases.
creaky,
Your MCC02 scan on page one of this thread is possibly the worst Verbatim scan I have seen. You said that you other recorder was unable to record on these? Are you sure that they are genuine? BenQ with WOCP is amazingly good at handling incorrect MIDs and therefore can deliver usable results on fake MID crap.
If you are interested in scans and media review, we have published several at BitBurners.com (a site that used to be known as cd-rw.org and operated in the Afterdawn.com network)
http://www.bitburners.com/Reviews/DVD-R_and_DVD%2BR_Media_Reviews...
One of our test bench drives is a BenQ 1640, but we also have a Liteon 1653, Pioneer 110, Pioneer 111, Plextor 716 and a HP 840B.

Here's a taiwanese sonyD21 of the +1x-16x speed media. Burned at 4x:
Not as bad as I was expecting.
Catfreak: That's the batch that seemed a little screwy with my Benq 1620.

@cd-rw.org - i'm sure i checked the hub codes when i last tried to burn on these discs and i think they were authentic. maybe they're some CMC or Prodisc-made Verbs that ppl are always on about.
edit- actually i've got what i think are some of those (Taiwanese) discs with me, here's a hub code - ZD1551-DVR-I47A. Stamped into the plastic hub itself is MAH628JB07022713-6.
Just doing a google search now...found this - http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=128909 looks like they're crappy CMC discs. LMFAO twice over i got me some CMC-made Verbs; when i get home those 2 tubs are probably going out the window at great speed as they're not welcome in my collection; wondered why those discs kept failing burns at the lead-in stage.. i always loved the quality of Verbs but problems with those 2 tubs (my last remaining non-TY Verbs) made me run a mile and switch to TY discs/Verbatim TY discs.
apart from the many MCC004 i bought recently i had decided to stay away from non-TY Verbs after those 2 tubs..

In the beginning of the thread I stated:
Quote: the scan must be done at a speed no faster than 8x
This is not suggesting that you scan at 8x ...
Quote: In the opening post of this thread a scan speed of 8x is suggested. This actually is a bit too fast, as the scanning speed should be 4x maximum.
Just clarifying things a bit ...

Hi,
I would like to make some observations/comments in response to cd-rw.org. Firstly as catfreak points out,his suggestion was that scanning speed to be no greater than 8x.
In terms of P-CAV - CLV - CAV. Not all drives give these options, even those that do quite often have compatability problems arising from the f/w used.(This is particularly common with BenQ. Both BenQ & Erik Deppe[Author of Nero Tools] are aware of this.) So whilst not wishing to go into some prolonged debate. I believe that CAV for the time being at least is acceptable.
Because of the difference in scanning intervals (Lite-On,Plextor,NEC 1ECC whereas BenQ 8ECC some NEC are 8ECC but a s/w fix can alter this to 1ECC) It makes sense so that others can compare their scans that say 8x for BenQ & 4x for Lite-On *NEC will only give odd so 5x is probably a good setting. This may not please the purists, but it's more empirical.
Footnote: As the above idicates it was me that 'recommended' 8x for this thread.
