Not sure if anytime you want (I don't like training a lot in Rpgs), but train all you like it will still be difficult, you'll hace to use your brain in battles (specially bossbattles).

The only problem I have with FF XII is that they say it is an action RPG,but it isn't a real action RPG.I think a true action RPG is something like Kingdom Hearts or Star Ocean. This game is a mix between turnbase and action, cause you can run around while fighting but you still have to wait to attack.I don't like the fighting system in the game, other than that it isn't a bad game.I just don't like the fighting system.

Well, "they" can say "they" want, but FFXII is not an action Rpg, and doesn't pretends to be neither (weird sentence I know...), FFXII is a turn based Rpg like FFV, VI, VII, VIII and IX, with the ATB system.

I'm personally a fan of the fact that I don't run around and randomly have to wait for the screen to change to a battle. I can just run right to a monster I can see and know what level he is and how much hp he has (with certain abilities). It makes it a lot more smooth if you ask me. I personally was not a fan of having the battles pop up over and over again when I was just attempting to flee from battle anyway. This way I can just hold down R2 and run through the area to a place I can heal or something of that sort.

Yes I agree with the above poster.

However I think the style they brought into the game, makes it LACK substance.

I really do.

I am halfway through the game and have no idea of the storyline or plot of this game.

I feel like it's mindless. It's a good game don't get me wrong, but it just LACKS what 7 and 8 lacked.

I personally still get a sense of the same type of storyline that was present in all of the games. It is just taking longer to narrow down the final boss. Altogether it's a lot like ffvii in the fact that you are a resistance group against a much larger governing body. I actually called it right from the beginning when I learned that Archadia had taken over Rabanastre. I said to myself (yes I talk to myself from time to time) wow...a lot like Avalanche from ffvii

does anybody else think that the final fantasys after squaresoft became square-enix are just going downhill in storylines? every game (X-2 to XII) feels that the story just doesnt go in depth and have as much character development as X and before. XII is a good game, but it doesnt draw me in enough to want to play it as much as i did with X and VII (the only ff's i've ever beaten).

X-2 is a Spin-off, so I don´t count it like a "normal" FF.
The story in FFXII is not worse than the others FF (I asume you haven't played FFI, II, III, IV and V) in fact, it's probably the best story in a FF.

FF VII, VIII, IX and X used the same formula, the love story and the characters were the center of the story, but in FFXII the story focus on Ivalice, there is not an evident love story, the characters have
a more realistic relation between themselves and are way more believable.

What I want to say is that the story in this game might not appeal you
because you expect the same FF formula, but the story is not worse that any FF, it's different.

Well lok at kingdom hearts 2 that is a great game made by square-enix and look at final fantasy XII that is also a great game made by them but sqauresoft had been aroud longer then square-enix but it dosent matter because square-enix is just two companys combined.

And Enix was the company that invented the j-rpg with the most popular and sold franchise of video games in Japan, Dragon Quest.

I am going to have to agree...The storyline is just as in depth...it is just different. No sappy love stories, at least as far as I have gotten. With the exception of the whole thing between the princess and the dead prince...which doesn't really count.

Personally, I love the story line for FFX and FFX-2, I've never played FFVII , but i hear it is real good, i just can't find a version to buy. I bought FFXII on release day, in a line up:P I find the new battle system unique, although i am upset about the "licence system". The game does not set any difference between any characters, basically you can train them all the same, you can make them all healers, magic dealers, attackers ect, unlike FFX where each character has their individual streingths, in FFXII you have to set individual streingths for each character, and I do not know how to set every individual character. I also dislike that you have to buy different spells, my god that irritates me. I suggest if you are trying to make a black mage for FFXII, you should only get the spells you have, and when you don't have any new spells to buy, go to the auguments.
I like how they introduce so many weopons and armors ingame, also how there are so many spells. I am happy with the espers, I wish shiva , anima or iferit where in, but meh, they can't be in every FF can they? I am also pleased about the quickning.
Overall I think the game is great, however they should work on the story a bit, so far. I liked FFX's story line MUCH better than this one. The FMV's for FFXII are amazing, WOW, even ingame graphics are amazing, the game truely shows how powerfull a PS2 can be, i don't even think my PC can handel the game.

Since you haven't played ffvii I'm just gonna let you know now. If you don't like the fact you can customize any character to be whatever you want...You might not like ffvii because that's what the materia system is all about. I also would venture to say this storyline is at the least, far more believable than that of ffx or...may x-2?(I put that thing down right after the opening video...girl bandishness scared me) I mean...travel through time, come on...much easier to believe the things that occur in ffxii.

Yes i am upset about that to, i wanted the FMV'S to be full screen, would look better on my 45" Samsung LCD HDTV.

The custumization of every character does not bug me that much anymore, because I have made every character different and unique..

BTW, Final *Fantasy games are suppose to be fantasized, not realistic:P Non of the FF's I've played are realistic..

Final Fantasy.........going way way way back in the thread to the original question. These guys are all rite and all wrong in a way. FF XII isnt the place to start neither is X1,X,X-2.9.8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ect..... the only place to start is way way way way back in the begining Final Fantasy Crystals the original FF (japanese) start from 1 and work your way up. By doing this you notice the quircks cuch as CID and ruffus ect....its the only way to go i think. Also somebody mentioned kingdom hearts. Great game true..but did you notice?. FF characters in the game, im not into kids RGP/Action games like kingdom hearts 1 and 2 but as soon as i seen Squall in 1 i was done for!. But all in all FF is a great great great game OH! and they have completed the remake or FF7 for PS3, released Sept 2007 i thinks and there already a quater way through FF XIII. These guys work fast :p.

The zombie's ate my brain!

I thought the boys at Squenix said they weren't doing a remake? That would be awesome if they do. Do you have a link to your source?
