Dunno if this is any help 4 you guys
take out the battery and leave the console for a few hours, THEN press
and hold the power button for a few seconds with no power to the wii( the
light will come on and go off).
I assume this will dissipate all the power from the flash ram
worth a try..?

This is a duplicate of my post in the main discussion because it might apply to the Paper Mario Bricked Wii discussion...
I updated my NTSC Wii (with a Wiikey already installed) with the Paper Mario NTSC game update WITHOUT being connected to the internet and having updated that way. The update failed, my WII rebooted and not it will not play backups, only original discs. I then updated the Wii through the Internet which worked, but backups will still not play...
Should I replace the chip with another Wiikey or Cyclowiz, or am I out of luck because the 512 flash ram has been altered?
Prior to this I had no problems playing any of my backups (burnt on Ritek DVD-R at 4x. I did already try unplugging the Wii and removing the battery backup, but the problem remains....
thanks for you help....

your problem sounds unrelated to paper mario bricking issue
the only problem was if u had a PAL wii that was updated with an NTSC update
I, although not a installer of chips would say go recheck the connections on your chip - i think either wires loose or chip knackered -
either way nowt to do with paper mario
if originals are working - ur wii aint bricked

this is a reply to my prevous post
I fixed the problem of my NTSC Wii only playing originals after the Paper Mario update by reinitializing the Wii - by reformatting the Wii memory AND erasing the internet channel and any other channels.
The Wiikey now works great. After reconnecting to the internet and updating to the latest firmware, I put in Paper Mario and let it update, it now works along with other Wii backups.

Totally different situation with surfnet90 problem. He had issues with updating a NTSC Wii unit with the NTSC game. Something went wrong somewhere with that update. Glad you got it back to normal surfnet90.
But the Wii PAL units that where bricked are due to region locks on the Wii hardware. This disabling the unit because they updated their PAL Wii's with the NTSC firmware.
I have read the only way of fixing this problem is if someone figures a way to re-flash the unit with the correct firmware or a hacked version firmware.
This is being worked on at this time.

no way.... There is no way Nintendo will publist something under the assmption that the Wii will be always connected to the Internet.... espeically Nintendo is trying to use Wii to get to the non-hard-core game... whom have a even greater chanace to not even have broadband connection...
no.. I don't buy this.

Eh?
It isn't as simple as above. But is actually simple if you follow the guide lines below (U=USA J=JAPAN)...
NTSC(U) PAPER MARIO + NTSC(U) WII = OK
PAL PAPER MARIO + PAL WII = OK
NTSC(J) Paper Mario + NTSC(J) Wii = OK
NTSC(U) PAPER MARIO + PAL or NTSC(J) Wii = Not ok if the Wii is not updated with the latest firmware.
PAL PAPER MARIO + NTSC(U) or NTSC(J) Wii = Not ok if the Wii is not updated with the latest firmware.
NTSC(J) PAPER MARIO + PAL or NTSC(U) Wii = Not ok if the Wii is not updated with the latest firmware.
It is easy to keep this from happing.
1. Keep your system up to date with newest firmware before playing newer games that possibly could have Wii System updates on them.
or
2. Only use the same region game that your system is in...
PAL Game + PAL Wii
NTSC(U) Game + NTSC(U) Wii
NTSC(J) Game + NTSC(J) Wii

So i found out that you HAVE to be up to date and that you HAVE to be on the net, is this only for the first time you load it up or is it every time? If my net goes down one day and i put it in, risk of bricking?? Thanks.
