I have heard that running a backup of this game on a PAL Wii can BRICK your wii.
From what I've read unless your PAL firmware is 2.1E it will perform an update and BRICK it.
Apparently you should ensure your firmware is 2.1E and connected to the internet then turn the console on, insert the game, then head over to the disk channel where it will perform an update then reboot.
My wii has the 2.1E firmware and is connected to the net. The game asks to do the update but I'm too skint to risk BRICKING it.
I have a cyclowiz installed with the latest update on it.
Do I need to convert the iso first or just grow some balls and try it?
Anybody else had problems/success?
Please share.

Any work on if a backup of Super Paper Mario will work on a Wiikey NTSC-U wii? What was changed on the new update?

I'm also worried that if the update on this disc bricks PAL wiis which are not currently upto date then isn't it possible that if you proceed with it successfully that the next PAL system update will BRICK your wii?
I think a little time and patience might save my wii. Maybe I'll just wait for the PAL release.

There is a problem for PAL systems with this game. If you have an NTSC machine you'll be fine. If you have a PAL machine with old firmware don't update or make sure you have the latest firmware before you play this game. My guess is there's an compatibility issue with the PAL and NTSC firmware and the update is on the disc itself.

I also can confirm that the NTSC backup works just fine. I have a wiikey and it performed the update and the game plays just fine with no probs!

Thanks. Worried for a minute. I'm getting this soon and wanted to make sure I wasn't turning my NTSC-U wii into a nice white doorstop.

I'd still hold back PAL users. If firmware updates can BRICK your chipped wii its only down to regional updates.. The game may be a PAL release of a couple of months more but surely the waits better than a wii brick.....

It's really not that great of a game anyway. A lot of hype for a mediocre game. WAY too much reading for not much gameplay

My NTSC Wii is ver 2.0u. I haven't put my wiikey on yet, but once I do, do I gotta update to the latest version, the one that just came out like last week? also, how big are wii games. Arent all wii games one specific size, and if its a diff size then its fake... is that right? What is the correct size?
Also, does this topic mean that maybe in the future, games can brick out consoles?
sum1 already had stevedawg and stevedawg85 is longer than 10 chars :(

Have learned a few things about this problem..
The bricking has nothing to do with NTSC or PAL wiis with any mod chip
It is NOT being connected to the internet..
Even if you have the latest update if you are not connected to the net
it will brick your wii..
Just hope someone can find a way to reset the flash memory in the wii.
So anyone chipped or not with copy or original who updates this game if not connected to the net will get a bricked wii

Thats kind of funny that you are the only one saying it has nothing to do with NTSC or PAL. Also kind of funny that you are the only one saying even if you have the latest it will brick your wii. Well anyways from what I have gathered, the real answer is that its trying to update a PAL wii with an NTSC patch, and crash... brick.

The reason i say this is because my wii has(did have) the latest update on it it just was not connected to the net..it hangs on a screen asking for the wii browser (Opera).

Hi
I have been following this thread and have a couple of questions if someone could kindly answer me
I have PAL wii with wiikey installed.
1) Can i allow the wii to connect to the net - with having the wiikey installed i was wary of doing this.
2) Is it a given that i HAVE to allow it to connect to net to get updates?
3) how do u check what firmware is running at the moment?
4) if this is then updated, is it ok to run the paper mario game?
thank you for your replies
