Sweet spot? As in the best speed to use? OK I'll test my remaining Prodisc and some Ritek (Both Maxell) at 8 & 12x then look at the results with DVDinfopro. But then I'm not a speed demon so thats why I had settled on 8x.

Can you post some 8 & 12x scans for whatever SL media your using?

I've found that the sweet spot for my drives with the 2.4x verb MIS is 4x. Burns well @ 2.4x but slightly better @ 4x. For the 8x MIS verbs, they burn the best @ 6x.

Haven't tried the MII 2.4x verbs yet. Usually only use printables and haven't had any MII snaked in on my yet, but plan on trying to find some locally to try.

I agree with mord, 12x on the 16x SL media has been the sweetest for me.

So any idea if these MII verb DL are the way to go? It seems like most stores are carrying MII. Where can we find the MIS ones if they are truley the better DL's? I would like to know how we can see if these are any good.

I just cracked open my first pack of MII. I've attempted to burn five discs and had one coaster. I looked at the underside and it was clearly a manufacturing defect. Looks like small blood-blister on it, and that's where the writing stopped. I checked the rest and they look okay, no visible defects.

As for burning, they seem to be just as good as the MIS. The playback appears good, and the spinup seems to be a bit faster. No scan tests or anything, just casual observance.

@bratcher

You can look through this thread for scans of various burn speeds of various media.

@rcm99, anyone,

If anyone does do some scans of the MII verbs, I know that the people who follow the thread above would be interested in seeing some scans.

Sounds good so far then 4 out of 5 is not bad at all. How did you know it was a coster? Did it stop during the burning process or defective on playback? Thanks for the info guys. Ok so i poped open mine and burned 2 items both went threw well and the playback is fine the only problem was i burned both at 4x but the 2nd one burned at 2.4 even though it was set for 4x. Not a big deal just a little more time required.

If you are looking for the MIS in a B&M store, you have to hunt through their stock, checking the labels. For mail order, it looks like it's a crap shoot.

4 good out of 5 = 20% failure. That's bad. With MIS Verbs, I get pissed it I have 1 out of 100. Actually, I can't remember a bad burn using them that wasn't a hardware or my fault.

The MII DL discs are starting to tick me off. I just opened a 20 pack and have 3 bad discs out of 7 discs, not good at all.

I am going to call Mirco Center and see if I can return the packs I didn't open (I ordered 4 packs thinking this was a good deal). The first disc stopped at about 50% but the last 2 at about 90%. I've had better luck with the Memorex ones I used a few years back.

I finally decided to take the plunge and try the Verbatim DL MII - absolute trash. I inadvertently posted my results here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/570115#3467763, instead of this forum.

Anyway, steer clear. We need to find another DL disc since it looks like Verbatim has fallen.

what programs are you using these DL media with? I have no luck using clone as it gave me 2 coasters right off the get go. Switched to imgburn and never had a problem since. These were MII verbs and I would buy them again.

Edit: just checked.. mine are also MIS

I returned my MII DL discs to Micro Center, I ordered a pack from Meritline, received them today, crap, they are also MII. I will take everyone's advice and burn using Imgburn, will post later if I have any luck.

I've never had a problem with CloneDVD2. Imgburn - it's okay, but for my tastes I'll stay with CloneDVD2. I guess it's whatever you get accustomed to. Hey rmcgo, did MicroCenter process your return fairly quickly? My return was delivered back to them today, after sitting in limbo for two days before even being out-processed thanks to DHL.

My DL's I use either Clone CD or Image Burn for the best results. Chris

Went to BestBuy last Sunday and they had six 20packs of the $29.99 Verb DL MIS. As luck would have it, I needed to buy groceries too.

I've just begun buying DVD+R DLs, and I keep hearing, especially on a certain site I'm a member of, that Verbatim DLs are by far the best and that everything else is junk. Here's a post I made today:
Quote:
I just recently began burning DVD+R DLs, but balked at the price (regular retail) of Verbatims. I was really needing to gain HD space, so when the day came to buy some blanks I saw Memorex on sale (15 stack (8x) for $20 = $1.33 each). Using ImgBurn (at 4x) and haven't had a coaster yet.

I see verbatims on sale at BestBuy this week (20 stack for $30 = $1.50). Not bad. I wonder if that's as cheep as they get? Imagine so. But as long as the Mems keep working see no reason to buy the premium brand, unless it's been shown they will hold up against the years better....
Here's the reply I got:
Quote:
Verbatims are hands down the best there is...no 2 ways about it

Like regular media...DL media is dependent on the media code...memorex are generally RITEK stamped media and ritek is known for DL garbage...Verbatim was pretty much the only company that got the DL technology right..that's why there are so few companies who put it out and also why memorex and other companies are cheaper in price than Verb'z...quality
I replied with:
Quote:
So does this mean that Memorex DLs won't look as good? Or last as long? In what way is the difference in quality manifested? Is it only about getting a succesful copy (not making coasters)?

Can you point to something comparing the differences between verbatim and lesser brands? There's nothing on Wiki that I can find, and haven't yet come across anything else.
So can someone tell me why, and how (in practical terms), Verbatims are so much "better"? Or point me to a comparison or an objective article on the subject? Or a thread on this forum, since I haven't found one.

Is it only about getting a succesful copy (not making coasters)? Or is there also a difference in image quality? Is it possible that things have changed to the point now where other brands, such as Memorex, are just as good (or almost as good) as Verbatims? The new Memorex 8X DLs I've burned recently work in both of my DVD players and look great (on my HDTV).

Thanks.
