I would deffinately tell you to buy this game. I've put many hours into it and yes it's difficult but thats what makes it so great. Unfortunately for me my sister was messing around with my psp and deleted my character that had 300+ hours on it so i'm on the hunt for a game save. But yea I still play it and enjoy it.

Did you do the training missions? I know training sucks, but for this game it REALLY helps, I went back to training after I was a highg level and actually learned stuff! Try some Faqs or Walkthroughs they usually help. By the way did you mean Also about your sword breaking, in the item box at the beginning of a mission are things called whetstones, when you sword loses sharpness use these to fix them! Don't judge the game, you should see how many japanese kids bought the game! 1.9 million happy customers doesn't lie!

No one sucks at this game, it's hard at first, trust me I logged 800+ hours on "Monster Hunter" and "Monster Hunter Freedom 2" alone lol.
this game is good but does get boring

Well a quick snippet, you can fight 3 wyverns/dragons at a time now (1 on 1, 3 times) and dual blades now have 2 elements (I have a blade that has ice/poison and am trying to get one with fire/dragon). More monsters (giant squid, black tigrex). There's also your cat companion who you can train, fight with, and sort of guide on what to do (He can have the same attack as a dual sword or sword and shield, and has the power of elements) but it costs points to train him. Lots more quests and the level of difficulty was set down, not a HUGE amount, but I smoked Tigrex with full battle gear and a and eager cleaver. That's all for now, I'll install a picture capture device on my PSP and get you guys some sweet pics.

Personally, the whole Monster Hunter series strikes me as a franchise that's either going to hit or miss for people. For me, grinding hundreds of hours to get items and go hunting isn't for me, but I see the merit, and understand the appeal. Some people just go for that kind of thing. I admit I lack the patience for that, and would rather be swept away in something brisk and involving.

There are a bunch of guides here.
But to send him to the swamp, you have beat the urgent quest and be able to go to the volcano. You can also get them from Mining Point +1 and above in the Pokke Farm.

It's true that this game does, in fact, suck.
Now, unlike many of the other idiots who barely played it, I actually got past midway, and I have to say that it's nothing but the classic Japanese time-waster.
All you do is go out, do a few quests, and get the occasional boss. Much of the time you're chasing the damn beasts around,and getting owned on the way by environmental factors as well as other things. Items are extremely high priced and require one to spend like 5+ hours or more to get them all for a set. This game is pretty much the epitome of how the Japanese like to waste others' time (and while I do agree that games are a waste of time, some actually provide entertainment....), this is just crap.
Don't buy it; go for Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Brave Story: New Traveler, or the Siphon Filters. The only good games on this crappy system.

Don't just tell people to not buy it, that's what I call dumb. You see just because someone doesn't like it at first doesn't mean they won't eventually be like "Oh this actually pretty fun!". Also, define your midway, because something tells me, you maybe made it to Khezu... Midway in MHF2 is 2 lady at the quest hall and almost all village chief quests done. Plus having some kicking armor and weapons.

@pred3
no problem. i'm happy to help.
@chaosnova
how could you recommend crisis core over mhf2? that's a time waster. there's a short semi-ridiculous story with an unnecessary amount of extra, repetitive missions that required you to follow a mostly straight path mashing the X button whenever you battle. it's also very easy. they do reach a point where enemies 1 or 2 hit kill you, but thats nothing another level cant fix.
no monsters are really classified as bosses because they're big and tough and keep getting tougher. those environmental factors can be fixed with a single item normally given to you at the beginning of each mission. the monsters you cant find follow a set path and once you find them, you use a paintball (which is also given to you) so you dont lose track of them. everything is expensive because the game is supposed to be difficult. even if you get better weapons and armor, the next monster you fight will be even harder. this isnt like most rpgs, YOU have to get better, not your character.

your best chance at getting a mane is breaking the garuga's back with a bow or bowgun. there's a small chance you can carve one off it or get it as a reward.
