I recently got the kit and couldn't get the cart to load. Just updated the firmware and still get a message written in chinese. Someone translated for me and it says the game card is not compatible
The hardware and the software looks exactly like everything posted here but for some reason, when I turn it on, it just gives me that message. I wish there was a way I can post the screen photo here.
I also took my buddy's working SDmicro card and copied all the files to mine, and I am still getting the same message. It just freezes with the Chinese characters.
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks for the link. Information about this patch was covered in brief via a thread found on this site. However, the one you've provided walks you through the whole process. I'm sure a lot of members will find that very useful.

This is way better than the guides that I used last weekend when I messed up my media menu. I will redo it this coming weekend using this guide.
I think that my problems will go away.
the lower screen says game loading and shows a blue bar. The top screen starts scrolling text that looks like commands. Version 1.71 appears at the top left and "MoonShell" appears in the middle above the scrolling lines of text.
An error was detected while trying to access a disc or file.
Did the set up end normally?
Is the moonshl folder moved or deleted?
Have you enabled the resume function with a media that is not supported?
Do you have enough free space on your media?
Please reformat the media and try again.
Please try with different media from another manufacturer.
Then the screens change and both top and bottom have the blue backgrounds

How many ROMS could I store on a 2gb SD Card? Does it count the File Size or the Rom Size? I.E, 256Mbit for ROM size or 10.56MB for File Size?

I bought an R4 from amazon and it is supposed to be the R4 V3. I have to download software from R4dsl.net....did I get scammed?

Yes. You pick and choose the ROMs. If you're unhappy with one, just delete it and replace it with another. You can also trim them if you want, as I previously suggested.
@ happyloaf,
Here's the direct link to the latest firmware of R4. This is assuming you have the English version. The firmware installation disc is really not required, as it probably contain an outdated firmware anyway.

Thanks for the help. And I knew we could pcik and choose, its just I forgot that we just divide Megabits by 8 to get the MB count ._.

I got that and it works but the compatibility seems horrible. I cannot get FF3 to run....i really think I got hosed on this memory card and it is an R4 knock off and not an actual R4.

Does anybody know if it is possible to create a savegame folder that would hold the .sav game files seperate to the actual game files.
What im trying to do is set up my R4ds so that when I save a game, the .sav file will go into the savegame folder and not keep building up in with my game files.
Also how is it possible to know what version of R4ds I have bought? I thought that they were all the same but that only firmware versions were different. What is the difference between versions 1, 2 or 3?
What sick minded person put an 's' in the word lisp?

hey guys im new here but i really need your help
i followed this tutorial but when i turn on my ds with the slot and all i just get a black screen with white letters saying "Loading..." and it stays like that forever....PLEASE HELP!!!!

yeah im having the same problem. it works fine with the firmware thats on the disk that came with the r4. but when i try to update the firmware it always gets stuck at the loading screen. ive tried everything but it only works with the firmware on the disk. any body know how to get past this? oh and its an english version so its not the patch issue.

Hi all, the newest of newbies here. My 2 granddaughters both have a ds lite and they are off on their holidays this Friday, so I thought I would treat them to an R4 each and a friend of mine has loaded 2 x 2gb microsd cards with games ready for them so the walkthrough will be a big help to me. The question I would like answered would be, as the girls will not use their ds's for music or video, do I need to install the moonshell folder. I would grateful for any replies on the subject. Thanks in advance
