Interesting... You wish she would. I dunno, she not THAT good looking.

I agree with your statement if you're talking about Jolie though, except for the fact that she would be sucking the heat outta MY rig lol.

Russ, maybe you weren't running 3Dmark approved drivers? I remember you like to stick to the older Forceware drivers.

It's not a question of sticking to older Forceware drivers, it's a question of what worked best! I tried the latest versions and found them lacking! I don't much like 3DMark 06 anyway! LOL!! besides, how much more approved do you need than when nVidia sends you the best drivers for your particular setup? LOL!! besides, the coolbits that came with it worked perfectly with my card where the latest version didn't!

Best Regards,
Russ

Where would you have gotten them from, ATi? LOL!! I called nVidia because I was having a problem getting the settings on my card to agree with the software, and they sent me a nice package which included a driver removal tool to run first. Following the simple instructions, I did that and installed the new drivers and CoolBits and then activated CoolBits and it's worked fine ever since! It's overclocked from 570/1450 to 650/1600 and it works perfectly! Can't ask for more than that! LOL!! You just don't like nVidia, do you? LOL!! I don't much care for ATi, so we're even! ROFLMAO!! I'm not a gamer so the XFX-7600GT suits my needs better!

Russ

Russ, I never said it wasn't. Why do you think I bought it? The 7600GT was an excellent card for it's price back in it's day. Now other cards offer a better price/performance ratio so I prefer them.

Why do you think I don't like Nvidia? You saw the review I linked too, right? Right now on Newegg the cheapest 256MB 8800GT is 55 dollars more expensive that the cheapest 3850 256MB, and the 3850 beats it out in every game.

So right now ATI offers the best bang for the buck so I just prefer them.

For me, like you I buy what's best for me at the time. Mostly that happens to have been ATi products, doesn't make me a fanboy of ATi, if nvidia made a card as good as the ati product for marginally fewer £, I'd probably go for it.

8MB Rage Pro IGP
64MB MX440 PCI
256MB 9200 AGP
256MB X800 Pro AGP
512MB X1900XT

So yeah, only one nvidia card in there, but until the 3800s came out, I was saving up for an 8800GTX (albeit very slowly). Now my card of choice would be an HD3870. If a DX10.1 card with the same image quality as the 3870 came out offering superior performance for less than c. £200, that'd be my new aim, whoever made it.

apart frpm the crysis hack with the nvisia drivers, to turn down image quality for FPs, i dotn see the difference between the 8800s and the HD cards for image quality. now a days it really depends on the monitor.

oh and sam, the x800 was crap (price wise...same on performace) vs the 6800GT, which would easily clock to ultra speeds

abuzar1,
Actually the best deal i could find was $30 more for the 8800GT. I found this review on it from Anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=1

They seem pretty high on it, and after looking at the tests, I'm not so sure of the validity of the other tests you posted!

Best Regards,
Russ

shaffaaf: Considering I outbenched my friend's 6800GT with it, I'm dubious of that. It didn't overclock for damn, but it was a better card to start with.
Russ: That article was posted before the HD3800 series was released. Valid test? I doubt it.

You're really not readin what I'm posting are you? First of all I'd like the links to those deals, I was just using newegg lol.

Anyway we are comparing the 256MB version of the 8800GT NOT the 512MB version.

Let's see 8800GT 256 vs HD 3850 256 the 3850 wins out ALL the time. It's also cheaper.

The anandtech review? Before the HD 3800 series card even came out. Yes it's a phenomenal card, but the 3870 is almost as good and cheaper. Look at why it's highly praised, because it beats even the GTX some times for the "supposed" half the price. In fact the 512MB version was to be between 200-250 but that never happened.

In the following order of performance:

8800GT 256MB $215
HD3850 256MB $170
HD3850 512MB $185
HD3870 512MB $230
8800GT 512MB $250

The HD3850 is miles cheaper than the 256MB 8800GT, even in its superior 512MB form. The HD3870 may be a bitmore equal on a price standpoint, but it will mop the floor with the lower end card, competing at almost the same level as the proper 8800GT. Given the newer technologies the 3870 sports, plus the fact that it's cheaper and runs cooler and quieter, even if you dispute the alleged image quality bonuses, the 3800 series in my mind has the market covered.

If you do dispute the image quality of the cards, I'll post the links I put in the video card thread. This compares an 8800GTX (same image processing as the GT near as makes no difference) to an X1900XT (older tech than the 3800 series):
X1900XT: http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tombraiderlegend1cn0.jpg
8800GTX: http://img166.imageshack.us/my.php?image...21395734tt0.jpg

Even the comparatively ancient X1900XT renders Tomb Raider Legends far better than the 8800GTX.

Are you talking about this 3870 for 230? I wouldn't consider it a "proper" 3870 as it only has GDDR3.

my mates just left he was suprised at the image difference between his 8800gt and my 3870, had crysis on on high settings admittedly at 1280 x 1024 and he says it ran it smoother than his card at the same settings plus looked better. processors run about the same as my 5000 x2 is oc/d to 3.2ghz and he is on a e6600 which is stock, I think my memory bandwidth is a little better than his but similar enough machines to make a comparison with.
decided to grab a new amd board with crossfire as i hadnt realised how much difference it made, mind you I was mainly playing gt legends before, never again (I hate starforce) in COD4 now i can take them out from nearly half a map away with my little scorpion :o)
