Im using Ricoh Golden 8x +R's. They work well, but i think i got a random batch thats not like the normal Golden 8's because they'll only write at 6x and 8x, they're the only supported write speeds lol. They work fine though, i use a very new LiteOn 1693S that can do +R/-R at 16x each.

Well the Tales Series contains some risque humor and dialogue, so it's probably a little out there. The Dejap translation for Tales of Phantasia on the SNES actually dropped an F Bomb at one point, that's a first for me as far as RPG's go. I haven't played to the point you're talking about, so I don't know what you're referring to. I've gotten used to getting some geed speeds over BT now. I downloaded Marc Ecko's Getting Up in about 4 hours at an average speed of 106.0Kb's/sec! The game got a pretty good preview from Gamespot, so what the hey? What a difference a private tracker and good settings can make. Two weeks until Shadow Hearts 3 and Suikoden V come out. MGS3 and Onimusha Dawn of Dreams come out in the U.S. in a couple weeks as well. Enjoy the golden era of PS2 releases, this is farewell. Next year, it's all about the PS3. Cheers!

lol Tokijin im getting used to these speeds im getting on Grandia III, which range from about 7kbps, to 168Kbps. All day too, im so happy. lol. I think my netowrk provider finally decided there was nothing they could do to stop me, and let me download during day times at high speeds. oh yeah i got a message from torrentleech to up my seed ratio, though this is the first thing ive downloaded off of them. So what am i supposed to do? i set my upload speed on the game im downloading to no limits, if they dont wana download off me, its their problem.

DQVIII, just beat Evil Jessica, damn easy. Grandia III should be done in about 7 hours, so when i wake up in the morning, i'll transfer it over hopefully.

Well I didn't get that message. Unless you have a T1 line or higher, there's no way you can upload as fast you download. What I do is leave my computer on overnight after my downloads are done, let them seed for awhile, that way when I download I have a good ratio. My ratio is 2.1:1 right now. If you download constantly, there's no way to build up a good ratio. Go for a 1:1 ratio with all your torrents, and you should be fine. If you're unsure what your ratio is, simply log into tl and it'll tell you. I log in everynow and then and make sure my ratio is good. Ratio above .085 and over 4GB's uploaded=no wait time. I currently meet both those criteria, so there's no wait time. If helps if you read the FAQ's on the site. Not necessarily all of it, but mainly the rules for seeding. It's pretty simple: upload more than you download, don't let other people use your account, and don't upload their torrents to other sites, and you're in the clear. I'm getting an average of 120kB's/sec, to me that's worth preserving. That's not lightning fast, but I only have a 1.5MB DSL connection. That's about 2/3 of my max download speed. Private trackers and good settings, that's the key. Cheers!

At this point in the series, I think Square-Enix needs to stop with the FF X +1 nonsense and come up with a new name. It's clear that FF 12 is going to be the most realtime-action combat RPG of all. I compare it to .hack (which I love, even more than Magna Carta...stop snickering at me) because .hack you could run around tearing your enemies apart with weapons. Or you could set yourself in one spot, go through your menus and fling spells/scroll attacks at your enemies. With three different characters at once. FF 12 has enough old school RPG elements to make many folks happy.
The naming....I just don't want to see all these roman numerals after it. The Super Bowl is ok, but when video games starting looking like THAT, it's just strange.

Why not a cool new name like Final Fantasy Thunder/Fire/Water/Sky (ripoff of Pokemon) that is a mini-series unto itself? Or diverge the game into two paths: 1)realtime-action RPG series 2)old school RPG menu-driven combat w/strategy elements. This would allow them to bring out two games almost simultaneously, one catering to one type of gamer & the other to someone else. They could reuse material from one game in another. Another idea I've seen talked about is making Final Fantasy 11 into an online/offline game. That would allow someone to build up levels & kill non-important enemies. Than jump online & play against other characters & bosses.

I've played every DQ and FF since the first. Both series have made console RPGs what they are today.

Well generally I feel the two genre's should be kept seperate. When action and RPG elements are combined well, you'll end up with something like the Tales/Star Ocean series. If they're not, you end up with games like Dragon Valor or Elemental Gearbolt. The former are great, the latter, not so much. I'm really looking forward to getting into Tales of Legendia or Nocturne. Action RPG vs. Dark Dark Dark plot, oh the choices lol. I always wanted to take something like Xenogears, improve the fighting system, and give the Mech's more utility. One huge problem in the Xenosaga series is that the Mechs are useless. Powerful human characters easily outstrip the mechs in terms of abilities. This was definitely true for the first Xenosaga, I don't know about the second one, I lost interest in it around the Ormus Stronghold. That's the first stage in the game you actually get to use the mechs freely, and it's on disc two! That pisses me off. Mechs should have super powerful abilities, combo attacks, and humans should be noticably weaker, even with the best abilities. Plus the Xenosaga series is way too hung up on FMV and not enough on interaction/side quests. The games are so linear. That really turned me off about the series. I like the first one. I stomached the second one til early in disc two, and just lost interest. Dragon Quest VIII is the other extreme. It has an extremely long quest, tons of side quests, and is challeging. I'm over 140 hours and still not done with it! Hopefully I'll get it finished over spring break. Too much studying to do until then. Cheers!

Lol 140 hours u gotta be kidding me!? Ive played like 55 hours, just getting outta Arcadia with Jessica, sort of got tired of it right now so im playing Grandia III through. It looks pretty good so far, im like 8 hours in so thats half of Disc one through. Im quite enjoying it actually, more than the IGN review had me believe i would. But I've learned not to listen to reviewers much nowadays. I make my own mind up.

As for Legendia vs. Nocturne, I would go for Legendia. It seems more fun so far, then Nocturne is. Though I liked Nocturne, the lack of voice acting hurt, and the high difficulty level creeps in after a few hours. Your choice, Legendia seems more enjoyable in my opinion. Ive downloaded MS Saga too, since I liked Gundam Wing, and Shadow Hearts in 9 days!

I prefer no voice acting. I hate English dubbed voices in games/anime, when King Trode talks I want to put a bullet in my head. When he's talking I read it real quick and skip ahead. I'm near the end of the game, but I am a little sick of it. I don't really have time to play it as I have 3 midterms this week. Then spring break, so it could be worse. I probably will go with Tales, but I don't know, Nocturnes dark atmosphere, high difficulty is very appealing. If you put the battle difficulty in TOL on hard, I'm sure it'd be a pain. I plan to do so when I play it through. The Tales series is known for it's battle system, lots of random battles, and wicked hard bosses. I doubt TOL will disappoint in that regard.

Sorry little l8 in the discussion, but Datawrite Yellow . .. . . .. O.K . .. .. . . Your kiddin right!!!
They are possibly the worst DVD-R that you can get!
ATM I'v got 50xRitekG05 which are a pile of crap!! 50xVerbatim/TY TYG02, 50xVerbatim MCC's, 50xPanasonic TY's TYG02, and 50xTDK's TDG02 or sumthing like that!!
Just trying to help as I really wouldn't go for the CMCMAG's as I had over 50 backup's on these until Creaky set me straight and hell am I glad I listened as that would've been 50 less Games/DVD's that I own today!

lol Paul1085 say what you want, i have over 30 backups on Datawrite Yellows and they ALL work perfectly for me, and on other PS2's that that ive tested them on too, like my friends. I bought them in a 50 pack recently, and not one has come out defective as of yet. If it ain't broke don't fix it eh?

The Data code for the discs is TTGO2, which is apparently made by TDK i think, and according to that Digital FAQ from Tokijin, these discs have a 95-100% burn success rate, which sounds about right. If you don't believe me and wanna check it out, ask Tokijin for a link to that website lol

Yes it's been my brought to my attention by the venerable coucil of DVD Burning Elder's that that link is outdated and contains some errant info. In particular, the ranking of TDK MIJ media as being top tier is completely inaccurate. Also it has Optodisc and Ritek listed as second class media. Optodisc is shite, and Ritek's been going south at least for a year or so. That's according to the Counsel and my hands on experience here on AD. I do believe that the MIJ TDK's are sub par to Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. As good as Verbatim's are, I live and die with my TY's. I don't trust anything else in my PS2. Soon I won't trust anything else in my DVD player as well. I have about 20 or so Made in Taiwan Sony DVD-R's, then I have 150 TY's in reserve. I don't think I'm going to settle for less than TY in the future. I've been thinking about compiling my own media guide with some knowledge from different sources. I'll relate more to the PS2. Cheers!

I think one should base his opinions on what he or she hwas had experience with. If my Datawrite Yellows turn out to be really shit in the future, i shall inform you and u may say "i told you so mofo" to me. However at the moment, everythings working out, plan to backup MS Saga soon, im 95-100% sure that'll work without a Hitch too.

Well I had failed burns with Verb's, Ritek, and CMC Mag. I've had 0 coasters with Taiyo Yuden in 150+ attempts. I'd say that's a good enodorsement. If all you rely on is personal experience you won't really grow in knowledge. If you screen your sources well, there's little danger of giving BS info. The people I trust have proven themselves exceptionally knowlegeable and worthy of that trust. I'm not bashing you for using DataWrites, but I'd never recommend them to anyone else. Cheers!

lol ok again, i don't really even need to make backups, i just make them so i don't have to keep them all on my hard drive, that would take up WAY too much room. Having both a PS2 Hard Drive AND Modchip really helps things along. Im downloading Black right now, off of Torrentleech, getting speeds on average of 40kBps. not bad.

you can probably kick that up a notch. Go here for a speed test: http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Report back with your findings and we'll see if we can't up those speeds a little.
