Yeah DQVIII still holds true to the main parts of it's roots. Being that it involves tons of leveling, battles and exploring. It's oldschool revamped to entice some possible newcomers. Crazyass DW(Q) originally had completely First Person battles with simple attack animations and simple text readouts in a menu of damage done etc. Also you barely knew where you had to go and would have to spend hours wandering around hoping to find a town. I honestly don't know how I beat DQI and DQIV. I guess as a kid I had super patience powers. Plus I had no SNES, I had to rely on going over a friends house and using a second save file for other classics. XD
I actually like not having a "turn sequence" or knowing who's going to attack, it's more realistic and you just have to gauge on instinct: "Oh, this monster looks like a quick one!" etc. And adapt on the fly.
Anyway, that Mecha-Bird thing you ran into is called an Infamous Monster. They're scattered around the world and are tougher then their doppleganger counterparts. But they usually give good EXP and a Monster Coin, which can be sold for CASH!

I'm still trying to beat that Geyser dude protecting the crystal ball. Ive fought him twice, both times he has eventually killed me. Im at level 6, i think i need to level up a bit more to beat him. Dont really want to waste so much money on herbs to heal. Is the humanity skill that Yangus has any good - is it worth putting skill points on? Or is it just a waste.

It's okay. The "intagible" (i.e. the last skill on the list for all characters) skill for different characters has different results. On Yangus it's okay, on the Hero it's definitely worthwhile. I just poured everything into a single category from early on. Feel free to do as you choose, but there's no advantage I can see to spreading out skill points. Most of the good abilities are level 5 or higher. I was at level 9+ when I beat Geyser. Avoid the axraptor til you're at least at level 10. The Dragon Graveyard was rough, I was disappointed with the bosses though. I thought the regular enemies were really tough though. The bosses had a lot of HP, but not much else. Anyway I just finished a rousing homework assignment on the differences of the Male and Female Brain. Exciting stuff *cough cough*, I'm off to pursue other matters. Cheers!

The first time i fought Geyser, i was wiped out. So i levelled up a bit to Lv. 5 and i beat him quite comfortably. Right now Hero at Lv.24 while Jessica and Angelo LV.22 and Yangus Lv.23. The best strategy against a boss i believe is to have the Hero attack like normal, while Jessica blasts away. Have Angelo attack but heal when needed. Psyche Yangus up, cos he does a hell of a lot of damage with Special Techniques like Monster Masher.
I got wiped out yesterday against a freakin Sea Dragon, he blinded me so i couldnt attack him with any characters. then he sort of picked us off one by one. I couldnt even flee lol and i was so close to the Western Continent! It hurt when i lost all those gold coins... I think i'll go to Trodain and train up a little bit, So i dont end up being wiped out again. I'll start using Alchemy more often too.

Actually i could go to Maella Abbey and search for Metal Slimes. They'll be a little easier to beat this time, with both Hero and Angelo having Metal Slash. Hopefully i'll be able to kill one or two so i can get those 1350 experience points.I encountered a Metal bubble slime too, but it ran away as soon as i tried to attack it.

Holy shit, I just got down watching FFVII: Advent Children, it was friggin awesome! Best anime I've seen in awhile. The action was sick, the plot was good, hell even the Jasconicus subs were perfect. Friggin awesome. It makes me wish I could write a DBZ movie with a good plot and sick action scenes, or better yet my own anime series. I used to have tons of ideas, plus I'm a good writer. Oh well, I'm probably just saying all this because I just got done watching. I did start to write a book based on Xenogears/RahXephon. I got 20,000 words in and realized I didn't like writing lol. Anyway sorry for the rant. P.S. for boss fights in DQVIII status magic is the key. Oomph on Yangus and the Hero, (doubles attack power), sap or Yangus' Helm Splitter attack, Kabuff, Accelerate, and you're going to kick the crap out of most bosses. One of the more useful techs you get with the hero is Falcon Slash. It's 0 AP and he attacks twice in a row with a sword equipped. You get it relatively early with sword techs, like level 4 or 5. It's quite useful. I never bother calling my monster team. Also play around with the Alchemy pot. Not that any of you RPG vets need any pointers, it just sounds like some of you are having trouble. Cheers!

I never usually have any trouble, guess ive played too many RPG's to have anything that i cant go pass pretty quickly. Status Magic is a plus, it helps with everything. I once got Angelo to Super High Tension mode and used some ability that raises attack on the Hero. He was psyched up fully too, and i made him use Dragon Slash on a Dragonthorne lol. Did 743 damage! Thats in my record book too lol im pretty proud of that. If only i used it on a boss, or that Friggin Sea Dragon. Anyway, i havnt played it for a while so i'll go play it later on before Football lol laterz

Even though this is one of the more difficult RPG's ive played, it isnt really THAT hard. I have found it difficult at points, but nothing i couldnt fix in like 30 minutes. The difficulty level makes it more fun, and more rewarding when u actually win a battle. The battles at sea stunned me in the beginning, because the enemies were capable of doing like 40+ damage. Jessica got killed in 3 hits lol cos they all attacked her. She seems to be losing out on alot of EXP, but i train my characters pretty well. so i can usually win with three. I guess i just make "Careless" mistakes lol but i do that with everything, even homework.

The one thing that kinda ticked me off when I started playing DQVIII was that whenever you get a new party member, they always start underleveled. I pretty much just go around leveling like a madman, or just exploring. So by the time I'm done I've gotten a crap more levels then I should've. But that's also why I've logged so much time but haven't progressed very far. XD
I'm really happy to see that lots of people are atleast trying DQVIII, it brings a tear to my eye that more of us Western'ers are embracing it more openly then before.
Ah the battle fanfare or level up sounds are up there in my nostalgia meter with FF's Prelude song.
Edit: [Recollection] Ah...that reminds me of the time my friend and I tried to beat Lich in FF1, after many unsucessful attempts we finally did it. We went to high five and completely missed... [/Recollection]

If you think the metal slimes are hard you should try killing liquid metal slimes and king metal slimes before they do a runner. Can't really remember but think you get between 10,000-15,000 exp for liquid metal and 30,000 for king metal.
(After you've killed a couple dozen kinda defies the whole object of the game though) ;)

lol paul i havnt event encountered a normal King Slime yet, forget a King METAL Slime. I saw a Metal bubble slime inside Trodain castle, but it ran away as soon as i finished inputting commands. I was playing it for a few hours today, and just started levelling basically. Yangus' Whistle ability comes in use here, and Jessicas Oomph.

Tokijin you must have the same FF7AC as me. Well at least you have the same subs lol. That movie is awesome, it puts every other CG film in history to shame. Seriously, i thought that when i watched my 700Mb XviD, and the trailer for the english version makes those graphics look like crap! Man i cant wait to get a DVD of it so i can rip it and watch it 20,000 times on my laptop. Wow im off to uni tomorrow. So much to leave behind.... One plus is i've got quite a lot of money. Lol haven't even been workin for the past month, but i got about $6000 NZ in scholarships, plus i havent got my scholarship exam results back yet. For every one i pass (Lol if any...) i get $500. Also got a $5000 scholarship still being decided. Man i could be rolling in it by the start of March! Arrgghhh but i've still got a mad student loan, my course fees went up by like $1000 compared to what they were last year. Man those Uni's are damn money making machines.

I think everyone who downloaded the movie got the same subs. They werent as good as the ones from the original though, not as accurate. They were ok though, and the movie was fantastic. Ive watched it a few times over now, still get that same feeling everytime through. That CG excels anything ive seen before.

I heard Andy Dick and Richard Simmons were auditioning for the voice of Cloud in the U.S. release. No way I'm bothering with it, download it and convert it to DVD. I watch anime in Jap with English subs. I'm going to browse the torrent sites for Grandia 3 torrents. Cheers!

Good news. IGN says that Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children has been given an official U.S. Release Date of 25th April 2006. So that aint far off. I think it was ff7ac.net or something that showed the voice actors theyve already revealed, but these aren't really big name actors. According to this article, there arent any plans to release the movie with Last Order, or Reminiscence of FFVII. However it does come with a host of other goodies that i cant be arsed telling you about. So heres the full article!
