I need help burning wild arms alter code f, the disc is a DL but the actual image itself is only 3.9 Gigs, but when I tried to burn it, it says that the image is 8 gigs and I need a bigger dvd. I've tried it with dvd decrypter and alcohol 120%. Do i have to shrink the movie files or something? Is there a guide?

I think there is a dummy file in the image. I will look at it and get back to you.

Ok, this is what you need to do. You need to first rip the DVD, then rebuild it. I was able to get the size down to about half by rebuilding the image. There is a dummy file in the image, so your gonna havta fix it.

Wild Arms Alter Code F isn't DVD-9. My copy is 4.27GB's. There are no dummy files that I see. A straight burn should work.

I downloaded mine and made a straight burn. I double checked my copy, and didn't see any dummy files. The image shouldn't be 8 GB's. Something is awry.

OMG of course there isn't any dummy images on yours, your was downloaded someone already took care of that. the image straight from the dvd has a dummy file as a anti-copy prevention.

Actually you may be right. I came across another post that supports what you said. How big is the dummy file? I didn't see a DVD-9 to DVD-5 guide for that game. All you need to do is overwrite the dummy file with a text document. Try rebuilding. Worst case scenario, just download the game. There are several torrents for it.
9. Q. Where can I find PS2 games to download?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/249297
10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. Games over 4.38GB's will need rebuilt. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip.
11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949 With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515 With Expert (Gnie's new rebuilding tool):
Gnie's PS2 Auto Rebuilder Tool Download (Thanks to 3DLuis):
http://www.alucard.cc/ps2/ExPERT_v1.03.rar
Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT:
From Anthony 05:
Download it and then follow these instrcutions and it will work.
1. select Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins list.
2. Select the iso.
3. Click extract LBA
4. Click extract file
5. Click rebuild file
6. Click rebuild lba.
Make sure you do it in that order.
This worked for me when every other way failed.
It is very easy to do so even the noobies should be able to do it.
Keep in mind im backing up the PAL version, but if your having trouble backing up with NTSC then i dont see a problem trying.
Good luck.
49. Q. I'm rebuilding game X, I'm concerned it has dummy files. How do I identify the dummy files?
A. From Hursty: When you see the iso has dummy files.i.e 00DUMMY. 01DUMMY. GARBAGE ETC, you need to get rid of them, by replacing them with a file. So on the desktop, right click the mouse, select "new" > text document and rename it as it appears in isobuster, then click enter. Then open the text document on the desktop, hit space once, then save, this will create a text document with 1 byte in it, Do this for all the dummy files you have, as some games have more than one.

Alright, I tried everything mentioned in this thread and even tried everything in the rebuilding faqs and I still can't get the game to be under 4.7 gigs. Shrinking the .pss files to 1% multiple times, the lowest I get is 5.5 gigs. Has anyone successfully backed up (not downloaded) this game on to a DVD5?

Well there's your answer Xelnaga successfully rebuilt it. There are three methods of rebuilding, but it doesn't matter which you use, they all work. I rebuild with Nero and IsoBuster. Expert also is supposed to work real well. I don't care for the CD/DVD Gen method, too many steps. Go thru the steps and make sure you didn't miss something or try a different method of rebuilding.

I used that faq to rebuild too, but it's only for the first layer. Adding the second layer doubles the size so it won't fit on a DVD5.

Then simply download the game. I downloaded the NTSC-US version and it was 4.27GB's. It was already DVD-5 and was a straight burn with DVD Decrypter. There is a way to do it, since Xelnaga did it. Then again, if he used IsoBuster, he may have only rebuilt one layer. The free version of IsoBuster doesn't extract both Layer's. I've heard the pro version does. Apache 2 or 3 is capable of extracting both layers. Are you trying to burn the PAL or the NTSC version? Since it's DVD-9, you may have to use the CD/DVDGen method. That's the main way people rebuild DVD-9 games to DVD-5. Extract both layers, take out the biggest files (usually movies) and create a new iso that's DVD-5. Unfortunately, I don't think Sonix has a tool for this game, at least not yet.

Alright, extracting the second layer's pointless. The first layer's the full game and it runs just fine. The second layer's just repeat files of the first layer with one additional movie (the ending credits).

That's cool. For some reason the NTSC version of this game was already rebuilt. Are you backing up the NTSC version? I'm just curious if the version I downloaded was rebuilt or if maybe it's the PAL version that is DVD-9. Thanks.

Ok, I take back what I said about the first layer being complete. Aparently, the game doesn't load afer you get you get your first flying vehicle. I would download the game if I had the option to, but stupid firewalls are killing me.
@Tokijin
Can you list the files and folders that are in your copy? I'm curious about what's in other people's iso's and how they managed to rebuild it.

The BGM1, PSS1, STG1, and BTL1 folders are all from the second layer. I see that the person who rebuilt it mixed them into the first layer, so the order's different. Ok, I'll try burning in that order and post up the results when I'm done.

One other possibility is that I don't have all the game files in my version. I doubt it though. Anybody skilled enough to rebuild a game know's what they're doing when uploading a game.
