Ditto, since I don't have any lexan and my PC sits peacefully under my desk I don't really care about the colors. :)

Abuzar: Blue and green is kickass, but Blue and Red is also very cool - just bear in mind that red LEDs are often not as bright as blue/green ones, which is why an all-red case design is a much more subtle effect.
The only tricolour fan I had was a Thermaltake Thunderblade. Aside from the fact it made an absurd din, pushed a pretty mediocre amount of air and failed after a few months, my main gripe with it was that the colours changed and flashed and made pretty patterns. That's suitable for a christmas tree, but not a computer.
As for green cold cathodes and wishing you had any more money - do you realise how cheap they are? I bought a pair of 12" green cathodes for £4 off a computer site and found a module that makes them flash either at a set time or to music, for an additional £3 on ebay!
Theone: You are correct about the colour match, but due to the lower brightness of most red LEDs, either will be a good bet.
ZosoIV: At least that makes things nice and simple!

ZoSo didn't know you was without color...hehehe. :P Just buy the white ones, they are frikkin bright and also provide "pure" light that's not distorted with all the unnecessary color you can't see anyway. :D
and BTW there is PURPLE LED's too.... still looking at those for the "PURPLE" innards computer.... lol
I'll say that blue and green look ok and so does white with any combo that I've seen but I haven't seen red except for the few internet sights or from you fellas posting in here. Maybe that RED's guy will get his fans in some day. lol. It's NOT like he can use them right now anyway. hehehe. Oh that was mean..... sorry buddy couldn't refuse. :D You wanna borrow my Quad for a while?? Oh that's mean too......
@sammy,
I bought one of the "UV" cold cathodes but haven't installed it yet. I can't decide if it needs to go in the case with GREEN or PURPLE reactive plastic... decisions... decisions....
@REDSman,
Just bought another ODD... wife's pissed... oh well... Sony/Optiarc 7190S (which is a Lite-On DH-20A3S)... I may have to join an Optical Drive Anonymous group before the end of the year.... ROFL....

White LED fans do look good, I can confirm that. Be advised though that UV-reactive lighting is a lot more subtle than LEDs, and if you have normal LED lighting in there from case fans it may get somewhat draowned out.

Don't let us talk you into a quad Rob, I'm sure you'll be happy with the E8400 once you get everything right. Even then you could sell/trade for a Q6600 down the road if you like.

sammorris,
Hey Sam,
Just thought you would like to know, I understand much better how and why fan noises bother you! I took the Evercool 40x40x10mm fan off of the SouthBridge! The noise and vibration were more than I could take! I even tried a Zalman controller, but when it ran quiet enough to not be annoying, it wouldn't start on it's own. At full chat, it was irritating to say the least! Since it didn't seem to do much of anything to begin with, I just took it out! LOL!! It was actually louder than the Silenx I had on the Northbridge when it was on the way out! It's amazing that something so small can make such a racket. It's a brand new one too! LOL!!
Best Regards,
Russ

Mine cost be 245 with shipping, but it included a freezer 7 pro.

Yup, that's effectively a scaled up version of what irritates me. Because I'm sensitive to quiet noises, I pick up on that almost all the time. The FM121s have a very unclean noise signature at low speeds, but it's more like a hissing, and in fact, if you can relate, it sounds like a quiet version of a belt-driven system when wet.

I tried the Zalman fan controller on both a new and old 80mm Silverstone. The difference between bothe of tham and the noise they make is astounding! The brand new one makes a good deal more noise than the old one at the low rpms you use. Sort of a cross between a hissing sound and a low rumble! Ball bearing fans will get quieter as the balls and races break in and develop a set.
BTW you mentioned that with your MB, the fan controls only control the CPU. My manual doesn't indicate any different yet see the Everest pic below and the fan is clearly running slower than the 1300 rpm minimum speed of the fan. I have the feed coming from the Chassis fan header and at startup, it runs about 800 rpm and increases speed up to about 1300 rpm if it gets warm enough. It's only 23C in here today, so it's a little cool, but you can see that the CPU fan and the Side cover fan change rpms along with the temperatures of the MB.

Why it's doing that I don't know, but it does such a good job, I'll just leave it alone. Maybe it's something peculiar to the DS3R Rev. 2.0. The rear case fan (fan #4) is set to just below 1300 manually and is driven off of the PSU! You can clearly see just how well it all works together! I have a Encode job to do and I'll pop you a pic of the temps so you can see the difference in fan speeds!
Best Regards,
Russ

These tests were done a few months after the fans had been in use on a regular basis, I'm not waiting that long for fans to get quiet.
As for the fans, CHA_FAN2 is also automatic. The other two however, run at 12V all the time.

It sure L@@KS like similar "specs" lol. I think a mutual friend was talking about that cpu but I didn't record our convo and he says so much when he talks. lol.
Vacation last week and aerifying (poking holes in the greens and filling with sand) this week have put a damper on playing with the high end goodies. lol. I'm getting anxious for some new movies to try out the NEW toys I've put together lately. :D
I may have to go to the WalMart $5 dollar bin and pick up some classics!!! :P
Hey Robert,
Since you'll (your computer) be down for a few more days (maybe a couple of weeks) send that E8400 to Texas and lemme stick it on the ASUS Striker Extreme and lets see what we can do with it. hehehe. Or better yet just hop a SW flight and stay for a long weekend. :D Oh I'm bad and know it. :) You're such a good chappie about it tho!!!! :-D
good luck to all.....
