Hey their Styler001..I'll give it a shot
first open AVI2DVD..step 1 Input put the little black dot in DVD Mode..same with Aspect Ratio 16/9 or 4/3..which ever u want
click Load ifo..find the file...once found.. click on the VTS_01.0.IFO..this should be the second file..not the VIDEO_TS_IFO..this will bring up something in the [Choose Audio Stream..OK now u got your Movie
Next..Choose Add Job..This puts what u are about to do in the Job Queue Window
Next go to Step 2 Output..under Audio Bitrate u will see a small file..click on that & select where u want to save your new movie..now go to PAL To Ntsc Conversion..put a check in that..In chapters I always put 3mins..I like a lot of chapters...u can name your movie in Name..[A CHECK MARK IN Make Iso,will also make u an ISO file that u can burn in DvdDecrypter]..I leave this checked until I've got my new DVD,it don't hurt..
Next..go to Step 3 Encoders..if u have CCE use it..if I have a good quality movie to start with..then I set it on 2 Pass not 4

if u don't have CCE..Use NuEnc or FreeEnc or QuEnc..these are also supposed to be very good Encoder..2 pass here should be adiquate also w/decent quality movie
THATS IT JUST HIT GO
Remember this takes time
Always go back & check your settings..cause once its done, its done & if u missed a setting u gotta start all over again

Let me know if this helped..Just post here I'll see..Print this out & keep it till u got it down PAT
Go watch 2 or 3 Movies while your Computer is doing all the work..when u are finished u will have a lot of files..One of which will be your new ISO [QUITE LARGE]..u will have a new file folder [DVD]this is your new Movie in the VOB format[AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS]..u can keep this file or your ISO..when your done with everything including burning..hi-lite what u don't want & delete

Thanks, rick5446. I got to this pretty late tonight, so I'll have to give it a go in the next couple of days or so. I'll let you know how it worked. Thanks again.

Just followed rick5446's steps verbatim. After the first pass by one of the external programs called by AVI2DVD, I received the error message "matrix.ini file missing" and the whole process shut down. Took only about two minutes for this error to occur.

What I find particularly interesting is that the "matrix.ini" file is sitting in the designated output directory.

This error is the reason I abandoned AVI2DVD in the first place and started seeking other alternatives. It looks buggy and error-prone to me..but u may think differently..

Well, I gave it a shot, but couldn't get past the Step 1 tab.

When I click on "Load IFO" and select the one you tell me from the DVD, I get a message saying "file access denied". Was I supposed to have copied the files off the DVD first with DVD Shrink or something similar? If I do that, I can select the file, but I'm afraid that at that point the files have already got the "jitter" in them and what I do from then on will just be wasted time.

Well, I'll give that route a try and see if it works. If there's something I may have missed, please let me know.

Hey, i tried this VOB blanker and it worked great. The only problem i found is that i still had to remove the menu's, they seem to have been encoded in PAL too but there was no option to change them to NTSC.

Hello..Styler001..if u use dvdshrink to copy the movie off a dvd whether it be PAL or NTSC..movie only u should have all the files u need..from this point u can burn the movie to disc..it will be what ever it is PAL, NTSC..so before u burn u want to convert.. the same goes for downloaded files
From that point u can convert as was earlier discussed..if for some reason u are having problems..it is probably because u don't have or are useing the wrong file

Well, I'm about 3.5 hours into the encoding (pass 2), with another 3.5 to go. (Not sure if all that time includes pass 1 or not, and this is just a 1.5 hour movie.) I'm using FreeEnc instead of CCE. CCE started the job, but after about 5 minutes it kept crapping out on me. I had to deinstall it completely (had to go all the way into the registry too, since the uninstall didn't completely wipe it out). I don't know if CCE was a problem of it just being the trial basic version or not, but I'm definitely not happy with its performance.

Hopefully I'll be able to give an update on this in the next day or so, if time permits.

Thanks for your help. Hope it all turns out good.

If you have a PAL dvd,

1. copy the dvd to you hard drive
2. use VOB2MPG to convert the VOB files to mpg
3. use SCVD2DVD v2 to convert the mpg files to VOB and PAL to Ntsc
4. use Shrink to create new Dvd.

SCVD2DVD v2 has a setting to convert to NTSC which needs to be changed before it will convert PAL files. Converts nearly all type of files.

Best $20 I've spent.

Where exactly can you find the VOB2MPG program? I've searched the web and can't seem to find a place that has it.

No matter what method I've tried so far, I still get the "jitters" in my final copy from PAL to NTSC of a Russian DVD. I'm still looking for a way to get a jitterless copy.

i havent tried this yet, but i have converted a few ps2 games.

pal has more lines of horizontal resolution so the top or botton has to be cut off when converted..

which is the best aspect to set the conversion as? there are many to choose from.. 720/704/352x480, or 352x240. as well as letterbox cropped, pan scan, or letterbox automatic.

if anyone knows the best results let me know,.. thanks

Hi All.
I am a new member. I was searching google looking for a way to convert PAL to NTSC. I used VobBlanker and I was able to play SINCITY and MR and MRS Smith, but every 3 seconds the movies would pause. it wasnt as bad on sincity. does any one know why that is? is it frame rate? when it was PAL it didnt pause every three seconds. If I play it from an image on power dvd its fine, but not on a normal dvd player.Im half way there at least it plays.
Please help.

cannew , I seem to have tried most of the different ways of converting PAL movies to NTSC with some luck. VSO`s DivX to DVD works sometimes, sometimes the movies will be out of sync. The same holds true for Nero~s transcoder. Roxio has a DivX to DVD encoder in their Version 7.5 , but it seems to be a repackaged VSO product. The GUI is not changed at all. Although Roxio`s version seems to work better , but it still has momentary pauses, not many , 3 in a half hour episode of the UK version of Pimp My Ride.
The way that seems to work best for me is with TMPGEnc. I used TMPGEnc Dvd Author , then I used TMPGEnc Plus , then I used DVD Shrink to get rid of TMPGEnc`s menu and then I burn the files using Nero. I have used this method several times with a ZERO failure rate. Just recently on a PAL version of the Fantastic Four and it came out OK.
Definitely take advantage of the TMPGEnc guides here if you do use TMPGEnc . http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/

I'm not suggesting SCVD2DVD v2 is the best method, just the one I've found the easiest to use. It converts avi, mpg, and bin files (as well as automatically converting pal to ntsc) easily. Then I use Shrink to create the dvd.

I haven't bothered with the Menu creation section since I don't normally combine two movies together.

Where you have a Pal dvd and want to make a ntsc dvd:

1. First copy the dvd vob files onto your harddrive
2. Use VOB2MPG to convert the Pal vob to mpg files

VOB2MPG can be downloaded (thanks to Chrissyboy) at:
http://www.svcd2dvd.com/releases/VOB2MPG.zip

3. Then us SVCD2DVD v2 to convert the mpg files to vob and at the same time Pal to ntsc.
4. Use Shrink to create your new dvd.

I found no faults with this process, ie: both audio and video perfect.

5. To convert all other types of files such as AVI, MPG or BIN just use SVCD2DVD v2 to convert the files to vob's and Pal to Ntsc at the same time. Then Shrink.

I have an RCA dvd recorder and a Gateway. A PAL will not play in the Rca but will in the Gateway.

To test I did the following:

1. Using my PAL DVD (original dvd) I Decrypted to hd.
2. used VobBlanker (Rt Click on file and set Ntsc) and processed.
3. Used Shrink to make new dvd.
4. Tried new dvd in Rca. No Go!
5. Loaded the Shrink Backup copy into VOB2MPG and processed.
6. Loaded mpg files into SVCD2DVD v2 (it showed tv Std as Pal).
7. Processed to create VOB and convert PAL to NTSC.
8. Used Shrink to create another dvd
9. Played dvd in Rca, worked fine.

So for me VobBlanker did not work.

I used VOB Blanker. While the program goes throught the paces, I get no real change in the output when burned to DVD. I converted a movie from PAL to NTSC but the color washes out on my big screen TV. Is there a way to convert and have color. I have used various other programs in combination converting to avi or mpeg but the output file is so large, I cannot get any program to build a DVD format to fit a single disk. VOB Blanker retains a good DVD size but no color on NTSC screens. Anyboy know how to set up the program to retain color.

So, does this board allow you to download a topic like others do? I'd like to take this one from the beginning and try what all you guys have said and see what works best for me, but if I just do a cut and paste of all the pages of this topic, it comes out pretty messed up format-wise.

DVD Shrink is not the answer. The output is not excessively large but the programs I have been using refuse to make a DVD stating process could not complete. When I divide the file in half, I can usually create 2 DVDs. I want only one DVD to be completed. Again, if VOB Blanker works converting PAL to NTSC, what setting can retain the color when being played on a RCA big screen TV?

Use vso DivX to DVD converter
http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm

When you open it input your PAL AVI file and then change the aspect and standard to force 16:9 and force 29.97. ALways works, even on the PS2. Remember to always use Verbs or TYs or if using Moser Baer/cmc burn at speeds of 2x or slower.
