I THINK I KNOW WHY YOU GUYS ARE HAVING TROUBLE JUST USING SHRINK THEN Nero ON ITS OWN WITHOUT DECRYPTER,YOU HAVE TO DO IT USING THE COLD BURN METHOD.PUT THE NEW FILM IN THE FREEZER FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR AND THEN PUT IT IN SHRINK YOU WILL BE ABLE TO COPY IT NO PROBLEMS

@Rotary - wow, nice raid setup there, i make sure anything at work has at least raid5, but you can't beat 0+1 (stripe/mirror).

Anyway.. i too suffer from being in Region 2 and i have more luck than most with DVD Shrink for 2 reasons. one is cus i back up mostly older films as i rarely buy newer films crippled with ever-annoying protections, and two is cus i only ever backup movie-only.

I can safely say categorically that Shrink cannot do the arccos protection stuff unaided, ie without dvd decrypter, anydvd or whatever. sounds to me like it's the region 4 that's helping Shrink there, not the freezer :)

However i would not put anything non food-related in a freezer apart from a can of beer for few minutes. Unless the other reason DVD Shrink works so well for me is cus i live on a narrowboat that can be incredibly cold for most of the year so maybe that equates to my discs being in the freezer :)

You do not need to use all caps, it is against forum rules. Also, this is an advice forum for people who are having problems, this kind of advice is not helpful.

May sound silly, but does anyone besides me, build their own computers anymore? Another question? I have been a member since back in April, how long before Im not called a newbie anymore? :) I would also like to thank whom ever made DVDFAB, it is the best decrypter I have used yet along with my updated Nero.

The lastest DVD Shrink decrypts and shrinks then fires up Nero. I suspect it will not be shareware for long.

Depends on your definition of "slightly." I might go so far as to say it takes A Lot Longer, but the quality IS well worth it.

I have had no problems with DVD Shrink either, but it has been a while since I've used it. I didn't even realize some were having probs. Besides Sin City and Hitch are there any others so I can test?

I´m not trying to influence your decisions, but...
For the money you spent on a PROPRIETARY rig you could have built one yourself, with a lot more power.
Death to proprietary PCs.
Enjoy it.

On the matter of VHS to DVD i am using ADS VIDEO XPRESS to remove MACROVISION and copy to my PC. It works for me.

I´m also using NERO6(with upgrades)to copy the VHS to a DVD.

DVDs I am unlocking with DECRYPTER and copying to DVD with SHRINK.

I´m using a TDK DVD recorder. No problems. One of my older rigs is an ABIT AT7-MAX2 - 1GB RAM - 300GB HD - ATHLON XP 2600+ - ATI ALL IN WONDER 128MB - WIN XP PRO SP2

My next one is a ABIT NF7-S2 - 2GB RAM - 4 x 300GB MAXTOR HDs - ATI 9550 128MB - SONY DVD DL RECORDER - ATI XTASY 550 - AMD SEMPRON 2800+
WIN XP PRO SP2 for a lot less money than what U paid for your DELLs.

I guess I will start a forum on how to built your own PCs.

I build my own also. I'm fortunate to have a Fry's electronics close by, and if you watch for deals, you can put a hell of a system together cheap.

When I had CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD working, I could back up a dvd movie in about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the movie. DVDFAB decrypter will decrypt a movie to my HD in about 10 to 15 minutes, then I can use Nero to burn which takes about 20 to 25 minutes. Im not using no super $3000.00 system either. I built my own for about $800.00 but will compare it to any store built one. Just the basics> 478 Intel Mother board, 3.4 P4 with HT, full gig of dual channel memory, 256mb video and two 250 Gb hard drives. and mine works just fine for burning. PS> Im not nor would I ever put anyones system down. If you can afford to pay top dollar then more power to you and if you can only afford a basic rig, then hang in there because the prices are dropping faster then a young boys pants in a cathouse.

I liked the FREEZER idea. Put the DVD in there, 1 can of your best beer, make a sandwich, let the beer + DVD chill...man that´s a WINNER!!
Eat the sandwich...drink the BEER...forget the DVD...WOW!!!

P.S. I fix most of the DELLs, HPs and COMPAQS around here. Will never touch a GATEWAY.
Built your own, it is easier than you think, and there´s alot of people around here to help.

´Let me clarify something here...(like jimm3000gt said)...
I don´t care what you buy either...but think before you do.
I do not put down what U bought...I put down the manufacturer that builds crap for the unknown PC user. The worst part is when you need service support or want to upgrade your rig. The manufacturers roll on the floor when they see you coming.
When I don´t have nothing to do I go to the computer stores just to watch the crap that the salesmen feed the poor customer. They don´t even know what the F%*k they sell. They don´t know nothing about the PC except what is written on the little price label.

Now back tom the subjects of this forum...

Hi all...I must say this site is the most informative and helpful site af all. Just to add my 2 cents worth on this thread..
I have been using DVD Shrink to copy movies on my hard drive for a while now with no problems untill last week..XXX part 2 would freeze at 13% with a error message...I shopped around and downloaded AnyDVD
and in no time DVDShrink was doing it's job again. I didn't even know AnyDVD was working but I guess it decrypts the DVD as soon as you put it in the DVD player enabling DVD Shrink to shrink the movie.
I put the movie on my drive as an ISO and then use Nero to burn the image...I also burn at least half the blank disc speed to prevent the pixelization that sometimes occurs. Thanks to all you pros and hope this helps some of the not so pro like me...

Something back on Sept 3rd or 4th caught my attention about the SONY movie encryptions...
By using a SONY DVD recorder you should not have any problem using DECRYPTER and SHRINK? Is that my correct assumption?

My question is, where in the U.S. can we get Region 4 discs?

I'm starting a petition for Netflix, Blockbuster, etc... to start carrying these discs. LOL! :-D

Makes my burning process (decrypt, shrink, back to decrypter to burn) seem like it was from the Stone Ages or something. (The whole process takes about 45 mins to an hour, depending on the size of the movie.) (I always do a "full back up".)

Like @DAX1969, and to my amazement I was able to burn the DVD "The Corporation" without DVD43 or any active encryption remover? Shrink advised me that the DVD's content was too large to copy. I proceeded with the analysis using Shrink then simply backed up my copy (main movie only I thought) to a SONY DVD+R using NERO? I did not even realize until my burn process had started that DVD43 had not been used to ripp the encryption(STRANGE). The end result was the entire DVD including special featues and minus movie previews, if any in 15minutes. This is what I will do from now on instead of using the Shrink to NERO option after analysis. Guys do explaine this to me. Oh, I have the latest Shrink & NERO programs.

@paradyme

Shrink will rip encryption on DVD's on its own, you do not always need to use DVD43. Where Shrink has problems is with the newer protection like ARccOS. The movie The Corporation does not have any special protection, so Shrink can handle it.

I too am a "Shrink/Nero" fan and for the longest time I could not figure out why there was any other software out there. I mean, Shrink does nearly everything. I can even make short little clips from DVD's that only have a small section that I am interested in. I can make compilation DVD's (no menues) with titles from several DVD's. It shrinks decently and I never use "deep analasys".
I almost never come across a DVD that Shrink won't handle. When I do I have to fire up Decrypter and spend the annoyingly long time that Decrypter takes, only to discover that it sometimes has trouble with "file system" protection schemes as well.
Last ditch effort, Download AnyDVD (which is an amazing program), and rip all those DVD's that Shrink had trouble with.

But 99% of my ripping is:
Toss the DVD in and open it with Shrink.
Uncheck a few sound options and the previews in the "Extras"
Replace the FBI warnings with a still picture of my dog...
Find a folder an shrink it.

When the computer is free... Burn the folder.

Hey Pastor, How do you change the FBI warning screen, I'd be interested in doing that myself.
