That's funny, because I currently have an LG CD-ROM CRD-8322B which has served me exceptionally well for almost 10 years!! I literally have abused this drive since it exists for no other reason than to house my favorite game's CD; Total Annihilation. The drive is spun up and down an average of 10 times a day. This is just a regular old CD-ROM drive though, so maybe things have changed since then.

If LG were the only burner manufacturer, I'd say go for it. But LGs seem to have a disproportionate amount of problems compared to NECS, Benqs, and Pioneers. I would put LG ahead of Samsung though, but as long as there are alternatives available, it's better not to take your chances with LG.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Is the Ritek +R DL media any good? Not in my opinion. Have a Plextor 716-A with latest firmware. Out of a 10 pack the first 3 burn good & test poorly right after the burn so I threw the rest away & will no longer buy the Ritek +r DL's. To me it's only Verbs for the +R DL format!

Got the good burn/poor test results with both Nero 7 & the Plextools Professional XL software. Burned all 3 discs at 2.4x & still poor quality test results....

I had stellar results with D01, but, frankly, with Verbatim always being on sale - somewhere - there's no need to futz around with Ritek anymore.

Microcenter's been having blowouts for a few months now. This month it's 10-packs for $15.99. NO REBATE! :o

I?m trying to back up a full dual layer copy of Lord of The Rings Two Towers. I have always used DVD Shrink in the past for shrinking disc to under 4.5 GB. I bought some Ridata 8.5 GB Dual Layer DVD-R to see how they would look uncompressed. I am also using DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15. Nero version is 6.3.0.0. My burner is a Pioneer DVD RW DVR 110D that is supposed to be dual layer compatible right out of the box. It's about 1 year old now. Shrink rips the DVD but I get the error below.

?Sorry your compilation cannot be written on this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of the correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make them compatible with the current disc.
Media Requested DVD =R/RW, DVD-R/RW
Media Detected in drive: ML Disk ?

I read the above post and have read numerous ones online that never worked either with Nero version 7. I think it is an issue with DVD Shrink possibly. I also tried using DVD Decrypter but it only creates an .md5 file I believe and two .ifo files (Have since deleted them so I can?t verify) . I chose the setting to Mode-ISO read and would have expected to find an .ISO file in the folder but did not.
Any help would be great.

hi :)
no need for shrink with a D/L disc its a straight copy
not sure of the out come with -r. i only use +r bitset to -rom

the easiest way to burn a D/L i've found is with AnyDVD running in the back ground using dvddecrypter as follows.
also decrypter handles the layer break better than most

insert your source disc

after it is ripped to HDD

if it does not auto select the file you have just ripped

Hey Gurnard:

Thanks alot for the update. I tried this today and it worked like a charm!! I guess the point I was missing was that DVD Decrypter is making an MDS file and not one with a .ISO extension. I lowered my burn speed to 2.4x with the DVDs I bought and it came out perfect. I played a bit back on my home DVD player and it looks great. Thanks again for helping me out. My first post here. :)
