Don´t think twice!
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 are better than some FF´s (from my point of view, of course)
And don´t forget Shin Megami Tensei:Nocturne, that is even better.

Thats Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne for US release or its called Shin Megami Tensei Lucifers Call for the PAL release, there the ones with Dante in anyway.
Not too many people rate highly Digital Devil Saga, I havn't played them so wouldn't know.

If you have more doubts, just ask, because I am an RPG addicted and have played almost all RPGs released for PS2,psx and Dreamcast.
Just didn´t play the ones whose were only released in Japanese, because don´t understand it, and what I like more in this kind of games is the story.

Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne is a top game - Dante is a (bonus type)boss in the game. Apparently sompared to some of the other bosses he's a pushover. It's supposed to be a hard game that one. Haven't heard of the Digital Devil Saga series. Musn't be released in Australia...

Have you tried Dark Cloud or Dark Chronicles - they are fairly good action RPG's crossed with a town building sort of sim. Worth a look but hard to find... FFXII is just round the corner SvtStang, so save your pennys in preparation...

No kidding, I start to salivate when some1 say FFXII LOL. I was checking out Dark Cloud 2 on gamespot earlier, I like the style of the game, but does it have enough substance to keep u hooked? I never trust the reviewers opinion, and would like to know what u think about the game. Thx:)

I suppose it gets a bit repetitive after a while, but it's a top RPG nonetheless and is worth a try atleast (might even be a bit cheaper if you can find it on the shelves) - and besides, you don't seem afraid of using that stores refund policy to your advantage lol. They must think you're a hardcore pirate or something haha. Gamespot are a pretty trustworthy site by the way, and if you don't trust the reviewer then take a look at the user reviews and rating to see if they're fairly consistent, otherwise the bastards might be plugging it shamelessly.

Luck bastard! haha they've probably followed you home and staked out your place a couple of times lol. What didn't you like about Shin Megami? Is the Pokemon element? It's a pretty dark storyline isn't it?

I wouldnt doubt it, Gamestop is like Cheers, every1 knows my name!!!! That cant be good LOL.
Nocturne wasnt horrbile by any means, the pokimonesque qualities were not exactly to my liking but i could deal with it. I just didnt like the frequency of battles, started to piss me off (ADD = little patience). I will agree the the storyline is its strong point, its nice to see some developers will go off the beaten path (is that correct) every once in a while.
Ill b back shortly, time to do the 100 yard dash and get Dark Cloud 2:)

Great Storyline. Great Characters. Extremely Addictive. Awesome Battle Systems. No Random Encounters. Endless hours of gameplay - there's heaps of stuff to do after you beat the final boss (extra dungeons, one with over 200 floors!! The invention system is cool, and making your own weapons and modifications makes for a good break from general gameplay. There's 10 characters to utilise throughout the game and little side quests with them - for instance Roger S Huxley (little nuisance lol) has 7 anchient books, which each have a riddle - mostly to do with dungeons you'll visit. Solve em and you'll get sweet treasure. If you beat one of the side quests (I nearly have done this, because i went hardcore and fought through this dungeon earlier than i should have, only to severely beaten by the boss) then you'll obtain a treausure and unlock 'Fighting Mode.' There's also 300 battle trophies to try and obtain, and once the game is beaten you'll unlock 'universe' level of difficulty. Also if you complete maps (100% percent or very close to) you recieve items that actually increase the speed of your batlle movement by 5% (per item). I've been playing it for a couple of weeks and have already played 30 hours. The only other game that got me this hooked was FFX and i don't think it even got me this addicted (and when i played that game i seriously experienced a numb arse for the first time). This is seriously the best RPG i have played in so long - now i want to get hold of the Psone game ('Second Story'). By the way, you basically choose stats to level up your charcters, so there is a bit of customisation. Creating new items for different effects in battle rocks and the invention/workshop compnent is good fun and could be a game in itself. There's way too much to list here, I bet i've forgotten some stuff. The only batt;e system i've ever like as much is FFX's. You need this game dude!!!
By the way thats a good price on DC :D

No worries mate. Should be a spokesperson for Red Bull (which is primarily somprised of Chuck Norris' sweat lol). It's a great game SvtStang. By the way were you pissed of at the fact that in FFX the world map was static - killing exploration off? Instead of finding mysterious locales like the round island where the Knights of the Round materia rested (FF7) or the old research facility in FF8, where you found Bahamut and Ultima Weapon, wou'd be clicking the X button in mere hope of finding a new place...

Ya, I think that is my biggest gripe in FFX. The best part of 7-9 (or even 2 and 3) was the fact u could go wherever u wanted 2 (most of the time). Like in 9, I wasted a sh!t load of time trying to find chocobos paradise and all the treasure, and in 7, finding KOTR and crazy materia(mime and quadra magic to name a few) hidden throughout the map was half of the fun. It speaks a lot about the quality of FFX though, I was just as hooked as I was in previous title, without the ability to wander of aimlessly.
Did u ever get into the early FF's such as 2 and 3? In my opinion those were the best in the series (7 came close).

Well when you say 2 and 3 do you actually mean V and VI? They were released differently in America i believe. Are you talking about the one with Kefka (as in number 3)? Because that was a top game! My favorite is still VII by a long shot though. Probably because it was the first one i played and the storyline just absorbed me...

HMM! I'd still recommend DragonQuest VIII to you as this is the closest your going to get to a Final Fantasy clone.

Ya Timmy ur right, never considered the name differences. (V has Cecil in it right?) Anyway 3(VI) is by far the greatest FF game, think 7 took a lot from it(most notable the final battle, splitting into 3 groups to take on Seph just like Kefka in 3). Its true that Kefka is the man, that laugh still gets to me.
PS- Picked up FF Advent Children, cant wait to watch it. Saw the intro with RED XIII from the end of 7, Jesus its looks awesome. Still have chills. Fet back to u later on this one:)
PSS - Is the artist in Dragonquest VIII the guy from DBZ??? If so, are than any references to DBZ in the game??

Thats a good pick-up. I'd say it is the same guy. Sheck out some screenshots of DQVII - the main little guy looks heaps like a cross between Gohan and Goku lol. I really want one of those games!!! Can't afford to spend like $100 for a PAL version used though :( Paul 1085 is Dragon Quest a clone of FF? Or is it the other way around? Did either of you guys ever play Lufia on the Snes? That wasn't a bad game - I have a copy :) must be a rare one now :P I'm not sure if Cecil was in 4 or 5 - it's been a while. I have the anthology on PSX, with both of those ones. Should dust em off and play them again...

Timmy, did u mean PAL version of DBZ games where a $100?(such as DBZ Budokai 3, my favorite fighting game) Thats a ridiculous amount of money for a game, where do u get ur games from???
Lufia is sick, those were the glory days of rpgs in my opinion

Oh no. Sorry that was a bit ambiguous. I meant Dragon Quest - those games are really hard to get hold of in Australia - number 8 is the only one that's actually got a release over here and i have never seen it. So i have to try and get it off Ebay, and the bastards ask like $130 for it! I want it, but i can't really afford to spend that much cash on one game at the moment... By the way how cool is Sephiroth in Advent Children? lol I got a bit emotional myself haha!
