Yes, but hackers will almost always have the upper hand. They find and exploit security holes. Those holes get patched (once it is realized there was a hole there to begin with) and the cycle starts over again.

The number of hackers doing this for fun massively outnumber those who are getting paid to try and block them (and most of the time the night-time hackers are the ones developing the anti-hacker software during the day).

There's no way to keep up with them.. it will be hacked. Adding anti-hacker measures merely delays the inevitable, and gives the hackers something to do ;)

All Nintendo could hope for is a long enough delay in the mod to make money off of their software sales, before people start making illegal copies.

@ipirate I personally think bill gates is a hypocrite.He may have been the biggest "legit" hacker in history explaining it would take a good while so I won't get into it.

But ibm used to own dos and bill really did some questionable practices while working for ibm to get it from them.Ms has been sued for anti-trust violations more than any company in the world to the best of my knowledge.Also many other lawsuits for illegal activity .He has already targeted these modders but their to good.

Well unix(sun java) first then apple than ....well everyone lol.MS put those companies into extreme losses.Personally I don't give a sh!t about apple but he's still a hypocrite.

What's funny is that Apple had to borrow money from gates to stay afloat.So gates gave apple president cash but only in turn for stock.So now everytime you buy anything apple bill gates's stock goes up and he makes more money.Now apples are running windows and mac os lol.

The reason you have to buy an add on for the wii to play DVDs is because, this was said earlyer, nintendo offers a game only console, and inorder to make somthing that plays DVDs you have to pay a royalty to the grop that owns the rights to DVD. Nintendo doesnt want to pay that royalty just to keep the cust down. The add on will pay for the royalty when you buy it and it will make it so that thoughs who dont want another DVD player wont have to pay more.

I can't find a link to who owns the rights to DVD but i do know that its like five differint big corperations and that is why there is no competitor to dvd unlike today with blueray/HD DVD.

@ themind .Is that even right I dunno.I thought the publisher of the movie had to pay the license fee.Besides the wii will already play dvd's mostly likely if it's not proprietary just not dvd video.

btw the people who own the rights are the same people who own the rights to HD-DVD and yes it's like 5 different companies.

I think royalties get paid along many steps in the chain of making a DVD. A DVD drive manufacturer would have to pay royalties, even if just to have that awesome italic DVD logo :p let alone using licensed decoding software etc. But the way I understand it is that absolutely everyhing is licensed, greedy bastards.

It's just a codec which there are free ones that would be happy to let nintendo use it free.Take the Opera web browser the wii will use for example, of coarse Opera is tryig to get its name out there so You know why they would but most free decoder software and most pay for decoder software(cyberlink,intervideo,etc) would let nintendo use it in return for a small logo somewhere on it.

or perhaps a small logo at the beggining of the film when you stick in the disc itself.Like DivX.
