Awesome! I've been meaning to post something about this game a while back when it was mentioned that a few people actually read the Berserk manga/watched the anime.

Well, the first and foremost question is: Have you ever watched the anime or the manga the game was based on? If not I highly suggest you do so, considering it holds some plot spoilers and if you become interested in the series after playing the game, you'll have seen some of the larger twists.

Secondly, I recommend atleast reading the volumes of manga that the game loosely follows (Volumes 13-26), unless you have a strong grasp on spoken Japanese or Kanji, you'll kinda be at a lost at what's going on throughout the story. Plus, knowing the characters and being able to play as Gutts make it all the more fun. =D

Now to the game itself:
In all reality, to play the game you don't need a background in the anime or manga, I just highly recommend it. The gameplay is fairly simple, being your ordinary hack 'n slash game, with a little twist. There are two main attacks, your "weak" attack which is square and your "strong" attack which is triangle. Now, Gutts, the main character is a big guy, and he also wields a very, very big sword. This factors into the gameplay. Just as in the manga/anime as Gutts, wielding this sword isn't super easy. You kinda have to get into a rhythm, but once you do you'll be amazed.

The animation in the game is great, the graphics are good, and the details the dev team used to make you feel like you're in the anime/manga is awesome. You also have several "Tools" at your disposal: Including a Hand Canon, Auto-Crossbow, Bombs and Throwing Knives. The game also has an EXP driven upgrade system, kinda like in Devil May Cry etc. And in order to get a decent amount of EXP you have to combo as many monsters in a row as possible, a major gameplay feature. You'll find yourself killing 50+ monsters in a row every 2 minutes, so you have to choose when to run and when to fight. Cause if you were like Gutts and fought everything in sight, you'd never progress foward. XD

However, I warn you, like the anime/manga this game is CRAZY VIOLENT and HYPER GORY. It also has some topless scenes with a certain female demoness. (Entrails could never be so sexy. J/K XD)

Overall I HIGHLY recommend this game for anyone who likes Hack 'n Slash, Ultra-Violence, Berserk and mindless fun. =D

PS: The Samurai Champloo game by the same company is SUPERB as well. It has a neat and innovative battlesystem and follows the show's stylings to a T.

PPS: Here's a guide to the Berserk PS2 game. It includes translations for the menu's and explains the controls. Just make sure not to look too far ahead in the monsters/area section to spoil anything. http://guides.ign.com/guides/679798/

Cool!

Yeah, you'll probably be pleased at how the game actually plays. The slightly slow responsivity of the controls really make you feel like you're Gutts swinging the Dragonslayer. The Boss battles are awesome too and keep some of the "Tap X and Press Square Now!" kind've aspect from the Dreamcast game.

If I can find a way to share it, I ripped the game and have the ISO on my HD.

To my knowledge the Berserk game for PS2 isn't a DVD9 game, it should be DVD5. But I'm no expert in HDLoaders for PS2, so I'm sorry I really can't help you there. :\

Post the exact steps you took in one of the PS2 help forums and someone should be able to help.

I have the games since my buddy gave it to me a while back. I don't like it, though. Don't know if it's the repetitive gameplay or the fact that I don't understand a word of what they say.

Dude2099: A small review wouldn't be any trouble at all.

Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked, is a "what-if?" situation in the Samurai Champloo storyline. As the title suggests, Fuu and crew get side-tracked during their escapades to find the man who smelled of sunflowers and ultimately get involved in a wacky adventure. Besides that I can't explain the story much further as I don't know Japanese well enough. What I can say is that Jin and Mugen, the two playable characters, get different stories, however they do cross each other once in awhile.

Just as the story differs, their gameplay does as well, mostly because of their fighting style. As Jin you use more traditional and graceful samurai techniques, whereas Mugen uses his freeform flow fighting style. For both, you execute attacks using the square and triangle buttons. The combo system is relatively innovative, for in order to perform them you follow combo trees on the top of screen. The available combo trees can be swapped on the fly using the right analog stick and as you switch combo sets the music changes to suit the current set. There's also various modes where once you fill up certain criteria gauges, you unleash crazy attack barrages and one hit kills in stylistic Kill Bill-esque color schemed buttonmashing sequences.

Keep a look out for it! Due in April Stateside/Western!

Ranzengan: Yeah, mindless hack 'n slashes aren't for everyone. I liked it because I'm a fan of the Berserk series, it was hyper violent and the boss battles were actually really neat.

I used UTorrent to download the file and it was a .rar file first then I extracted it with WinRAR into a .iso file and from there I burned it with Nero. Using the image burn option, it worked for me for a different game don't know why it doesn't for this 1. I've wasted a butt load of Dvd-Rs.
