I've been following this thread for about a month, but I didn't know until today that it was still going. I'm hoping I can get some help. I've tried following many of the explanations given to download this video, however, I'm stuck. The link is:
http://12monthinternetmillionaire.s3.ama...01/week_01.html
When I look at the page source I can find the extension:
player/playershell.swf?rqPresentationID=JxAVFel0CljMe9d&rqStartSlide=
However, when I download the swf. file from here, it doesn't open. I've tried opening it in a Hex editor, but there doesn't seem to be distinguishable code for me to piece together a download link. I don't know if I'm using the Hex editor correctly.
Could I get some expert help? Thanks in advance.

Attention n00bz: READ THE LAST 5 PAGES OF THIS THREAD. THE PAGE SOURCE-HEX EDITOR METHOD DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.
You need to use the methods I've shown: Clipta, BitRecorder, Replay Media Catcher, StreamTransport, File2HD.com, etc.
READ MY POSTS, WATCH MY TUTORIALS, STUDY MY WAYS.
You have much to learn, young grasshoppers.

Hello. I recently made a post about an .swf file that I'm having trouble downloading. I went back and read through the five pages as suggested by Adam. I tried using Clipta, BitRecorder, Replay Media Catcher, StreamTransport, File2HD.com, DownloadHelper, Flash Decompiler, Moyea, and nothing works. At one point I, somehow was able to start downloading file using Real Player, at least I think so, but I was doing so much other stuff in the background that my computer froze and I had to reboot. I haven't been able to get it to start downloading again.
I try not to be totally clueless and brain-dead when it comes to computers; I've been around them my whole life and I don't claim to be an expert, but I am proficient with them. But this has got me stumped. I've walked through all of the demos and such detailed on this blog, and I don't know if I'm missing something simple, or if this file is just un-retrievable... It's really starting to frustrate me.
So, I'm sorry if I'm annoying, and you can ban me from the forum if you want. But if you could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

http://www.learningchocolate.com/sites/d...picturegame.swf
Is the main .swf element. However, it uses lots of other smaller elements, mp3 and jpg files to produce the result you are seeing on their website.
The method I used to access that file is the "Resource Tracking" option of Development Tools in Google's Chrome browser.
Edit: For educational purposes only, I don't condone you ripping off their site!

I was searching for info on how to download embedded Flash files, and your topic came up. It worked perfectly, until today... I can across a video I want to keep for all time, but I cant download it... I even got the Plugins for FireFox, but nothing has worked...
So, I was wondering if YOU could help me out?
The URL to the page:
http://www.joshspaulding.com/zelda.html
The Url to the Flash:
http://www.joshspaulding.com/Zelda.swf
Anything you can do to help is appreciated...
Solution:
The video that is linked to by the site, which is Zelda.swf (the link you provided for me) is not actually the video.... It's a smokescreen-like pointer to the actual video. The file "Zelda.swf" does not actually contain the movie; instead, it contains ANOTHER link to the REAL movie. Think of it like a shortcut on your desktop: it has the same name as the original program, but it doesen't contain the program itself; it just points your computer to the real one, wherever it is. This video is the same way.
When you download the file "Zelda.swf", you're not downloading the movie, you're just downloading the pointer... that's why it's so small. I went a little farther with this concept. If the pointer tells your computer to find the REAL video, it must contain the REAL URL...right? So I broke it open with my trusty Hex Editor.
Here's what it contains...
465753063F000000700008C000006D6000100200430200000040003F031A0000008315004C4F5A66696E616C2E737766005F6C6576656C3000070040000000
or, in ASCII...
FWS.?...p.....m`....C....@.?........LOZfinal.swf._level0...@...
See that text in the decoded file: "LOZfinal.swf"? This is the location of the REAL video. So, to find the real video which you can download, the url is http://www.joshspaulding.com/LOZfinal.swf . Open this page and go file>save page as to download the video. Ta da.
----------
AReed, I hope you don't mind my copying of your PM. I think it will help others, and brings an interesting protection method to light.
I tried your technique against the following SWF file but could not get it to work. Can you please have a look at this and see if you can figure out how I can get it downloaded and able to run in its entirety? Thanks so much.

I've been reading throughout this thread, and I cannot figure this out. Im trying to get an swf file off a website. Its a flash game, but I figured its the same as the videos. Heres what I tried so far:
(1). file2hd works for most of the games Im trying to get.
(2). source code - gives me zig and jar files in the url:
<applet code="vNES.class" codebase="http://www.ragdollgames.com/swf/" archive="http://www.ragdollgames.com/swf/vNES.jar" width=512 height=480>
and/or
<applet code=NESCafeApplet archive="/emulators/nescafe/nescafe.jar" width=512 height=480>
<param name=ROMFILE value="/swf/nintendo8_digdug.zig">
Original url:
http://www.ragdollgames.com/full-1226-Dig-Dug.html
http://www.nickolasburns.com/play-22406-Dig_Dug_II.html
Im letting kids play these games as a reward, but I dont want them to see all of the inappropriate ads on these games when accessed through a website. My methods have been working so far, but Ive come across a few games that I cannot get. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think it is a flash game, it's a file (the game) being loaded by a java applet.
You could simply save all the elements involved and then embed it into your own .html file, or just save the existing one (and remove the ad links etc).

Anyone else, don't hesitate to refer videos to me. I enjoy this ;).
Hey,
Here's one: http://www.hogdb.com/2010/11/27/highlight-video-arkansas-31-lsu-23/
I tried downloading the .swf file 1.1M and when open it up in vim and filter to hex edit, i can't find any of the variable names in it. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough or in the right place. You can use the "share" button on that video to get the embed html info out of it, and that might help. Also, view this link for another site that has it: http://www.arkansasrazorbacks.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?catid=4705&id=737091
Its not just this team that has the problem, looks like every college football team using xos networks is using this player. Seems to me they are using a flash player that doesn't buffer and hides the url in the player itself, so I can't figure how to get at the actual file...
Can you help?

@ Biertje that's great! I spent a few hours on this but I am not a coder, I'm more into the network side of things. The link is: http://www.thenewsroom.com/details/4204221
I've tried every trick I know plus a few from here with no luck.
I hope you do better than me! LOL
Thanks for your help,
John
