November 19 for 250.
My thoughts:
Great. Hopefully I can preorder from gamestop or toysrus now that a release date has been confirmed.
Couple bones to pick though.
First off, since when is $250 below $250? It isn't. Nintendo said the Wii would retail for "less than 250". Well guess what? It isn't. I think Nintendo is getting away with it because at launch it's mostly avid shoppers and diehard fanboys. Nintendo better have a quick price drop in their plans, because $250 is not a "casual gamer" price.
Not even close.
Secondly, wasn't the Wii supposed to come out BEFORE the ps3? I swear I remember hearing that. Now it's the last system out. That's just not cool.
next, virtual console games said to be 5-10 dollars. To me, this seems a little too much. I don't see why Nintendo would need to charge more than a few bucks for an old NES game. The only retro games I feel right now worth spending are the games that no longer work. otherwise, I don't see myself spending 10 bucks for each game when I can spend 3 minutes hooking up my SNES and playing all 25+ games I still have in cartriges.
In conclusion, I am glad that nintendo FINALLY released that info. Sadly, it is my worst case scenerio. (Which is still pleasant, just exatremely dissappointing)
I think this is an example of Nintendo building up hype and then NOT delivering.

The release date in the US hasnt been confirmed, its just speculation at the moment although reports say it is reliable info...
Quote: The fireworks start early... the Seattle Post Intelligencer has posted a story from the New York Times' Seth Schiesel saying the Wii will launch in North and South America for $250 on Nov. 19...........We haven't confirmed this info yet, but this seems to be from a relatively reliable source.

Quote: Nintendo has yet to confirm the New York Times report, which it has since been removed from the newspaper's website, but it has been widely accepted as credible.

I was just browsing the internet when I came across the a web site that siad it is going to be released november 17. I was going to post thta link here but I gues I was beaten to it.
Anyways $250 isint that bad when you think that the ps3 is double that for the cheapest version. Quote: next, virtual console games said to be 5-10 dollars. To me, this seems a little too much
Just to confirm this NES games will cost $5, Super NES games will be $8, and Nintendo 64 titles will cost $10. I think that is a resionable price...

all i can say is wow....i said this before in another thread, and seems fitting to share again. these next gen consoles or this "console war" is in no way shaping up to be anything like what the reports, companies, or fanboys made it out to be.
here is the link back in july about nintendo releasing before the ps3
http://money.cnn.com/2006/07/05/commenta...aming/index.htm
not to mention the thread that was in here about kids SI. i think that was where it was from that said the release date was going to be october (i think).
Nintendo out of all the companies seemed to be extremely careful with what news or lack of they released, and i think its apparant now. $250 for this system seems to be too much, especially when i think most (including myself) thought the price would be on the lower end of what they announced. amazing how so many people criticized sony when nintendo basically did the same thing, but i guess if a company never releases an expected launch date or anything else, how would the public know if things were on track or going well? seems like nintendo had a few tricks up their sleeve, or i'll even call it experience, as their public perception is much higher than sonys or even microsoft at this point. all these companies are just as bad or manipulative as the next
for those who are happy or even relieved about the news, hopefully it will be everything that is expected. my opinion however is the opposite....

good question bubsy.
doomcap: it was confirmed by the newspaper, and here's why;
Nintendo had already told them the date and price. The newspaper just clumsily updated their online page as they began to print the actual paper. Understand?

oofRome - Yes I understand what you are saying and I dont want to get in an arguement or anything but that is still not official confirmation. Fair enough its not speculation as I had said but it isnt confirmation either. Official confirmation can only come from Nintendo's mouth, which it did, at the press conference. The newspaper can say whatever it wants, if Nintendo havnt announced that information to the rest of the world then it aint official.
Anyway, enough of me being a pedantic bastard, either way the details are now out (for Europe too which I was most concerned about!) and Im glad they are because now stores will start announcing that they are taking pre-orders, which I will definitely be doing asap.

Yeah but I texted Reggie Fils-Aime right when I read the newspaper article and he said "yes, that's true."

Technically, the price is $249.99, which is in fact less than $250 ;)

All consoles (with the exception of Japan) will come with Wii Sports packed in. Other "packages" will be up to the retailer to decide on creating. At this point, there are no other packages announced from Nintendo.
Would have been nice to be playing the Wii during the Canadian Thanks Giving Holidays .. but alas, it was not meant to happen.. can't wait for Nov. 19 :D

It's nice to hear nintendo is keeping up their part of the deal. That's one thing I can say is they keep their promises.
With news of ps3 being delayed ,it's nice to see nintedo step up and have a REAL launch come this holiday season. It's one of the reasons I have always said people are underestimating the big N.
*edit that said I do agree with a number of oofromes bones to pick.
