Hey flywilley
Just to add to rippers great advise. Since your doing a download use Vision instead of Recode. Recode will convert but to mpeg4 which a lot of players may not play.
Here's a guide for Vision - link
Hey there ripper
Good night and sleep tight :)

Yeah ripper is great. Glad he popped in to help you out too!
Nope Vision won't fix that. It will convert the file to be dvd compliant so you can play it on a dvd player. It will burn too but I think it will probably fail.
I think your best bet is some more of his advice - get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. You can get the taiyo yuden online at supermediastore. I use them all the time and they have good prices. Takes about a week for delivery.
In the mean Best Buy has Sony's on sale - 100 for I think 24.99 - these usually do good. Worst case 1 fails - take them back.
There's usually sales ever week at like Best Buy, Staples etc on good media. Maybe this Sunday best Buy will have the Verbs on sale.

So it's most likely just my media brand. Well poo :(, Best Buy is closed and I'm not patient enough to wait a week. I'm going to pull my hair out...lol...I wonder why this media does good when I back up DVD's but it won't burn movies I've downloaded. I'm still learning but thanks to you I'm no longer afraid to make changes to my programs. You've been great, Thanks!

More than likely the disc themselves - 1st thing to switch with a power calibration error - well most burning errors :)
So-so media can be hit or miss - could be why they burn sometimes.
Give Vision a shot - what the heck. Make sure you have all unneeded programs closed - pretty cpu intensive and w/ only 256 mb in ram you're going to need to close as much as you can.
Pick up some Verbs when they go on sale then place a order w/ sms w/ Taiyo. You'll be set :)
Oh and you're welcome!

Thanks for the praise Karen :-)
Nice to see you're still here; keeping well?
flywilley, any more problems then just come back to us. However, if you encounter frezzes or crashing when using Vision then it's probably your RAM, ok. :-)

I tried the link you showed me and followed the instructions to use vision, vision said it finished successfully but when I got to the burning w/rom I got lost because I couldn't find the converted movie on my harddrive...I'm trying again though...we'll see what happens.

Hi ElBruleur, I had that prob 1 time...it was because I wasn't deleting the previously ripped movies. As soon as I deleted all the movies that I had already burned and rebooted it straightened up...but if that doesn't help you any you are in good hands with Afterdawn they've always helped me out...Good luck.

Hi smiffycc
Hmmm how bad are the scratches? If they're that bad may not be able to get it done. Decrypter is usually the best one to get this done.
Try buffing out the scratches with something non abrasive like toothpaste, car wax with a soft clothe.
Have another drive you can rip from? Some are better then others as ripping these.
@flywilley
Check this folder for the file from Vision - my documents>nero vision.
It usually saves them there my default unless you create and pick a new folder.
@ElBruleur
yeah that is weird. I'd try flywilley advice. I keep a bunch on an external hard drive but I save them usually using recode or clone.

ok - on the drive bit. When you install both drives are you changing the jumper pin on the back of the drive to match which connection it's on on the ide cable? Example the master connection the jumper pin should be set to master.
Now if this is a Dell pc they prefer the jumper pins to be set to cable select.
Make sure all connections are secure too. Ide connections to drive and motherboard and power connectors to the drive.
Can you boot in safe mode? Start the pc then press F8 to boot in safe mode.
Check 'my computer' and see of both drives are listed.

Here's a guide on installing drives - link.
They might already be set to cable select - if not set the pins to this. Tehy're on the back of the drive.
You would do this before you install the drives.
Once you get them in then start the pc and hopefully it will boot.
Sonic Active Module - Sonic software? Go to add/remove programs in control panel and uninstall Sonic. Reboot.
Run a registry cleaner like the free ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options.
I would uninstall Sonic 1st b/4 installing the drives - this might be part of the the problem.
If you're getting some message about insert a disc for sonic active module here's sometbing I found it - link

Hi Binkie, Ripper, Someone,
I finally got that movie to burn but the sound out runs the movie. I used vision to compile to my hard drive like alkohol did in the link you gave me. But I couldn't get the Nero burning rom to work for me(probably because I don't know how to use it, like always) so I burned it with Nero Recode. Nice picture and sound quality but the sound out runs the film. Do you have any idea what I need to do now. I'm sure there's probly just a simple tweak but it's outside my realm of knowledge.

What problems do you have or don't understanding burning the video_ts files in Nero Burning ROM?
Sounds like a simple sync issue.

Well I really just don't know how to use the burning rom. I set it up as suggested by alkohol but he didn't say how to use it...lol, I know I'm ignorant...so i tried using the open file button but it told me there was no compilation in the video_ts folder. So I went with the recode. And as far as the sync issue that sounds simple to you(an expert) I have no clue how to fix it. I'm really inexperienced at this. I've been in the home computer world for less than a year. So any help you can offer is a chance for me to learn. I really appreciate all you all have done for me so far.

Nero Burning ROM is a doddle. Just use the file browser to add all the files in your Video_TS folder to a new DVD compilation and then hit the arrow which looks like a match on a DVD to burn. You'll then be presented with a new screen where the tabs are somewhat self explanitory, and you should select a burn speed of no higher than half the speed of your media max speed - eg, 16x = burn @ 8x.
Just ask if you'd like screenshots or something.
If you want to try recode again, follow binki7's guide on it here..

Thanks Ripper, I'll try that. I want to try the burning rom so I'll learn something new but will that automtically fix my sync problem?

Ah the infamous Nero Vision out of sync issue. I don't have this problem w/ all files but Nero Vision does tend to have more of these problems.
There are some workarounds like renaming or adding different files but try this instead for now - DivXtoDVD.
Free. Set the standard to NTSC. Save to your hard drive then use Burning rom or Express to add the video_ts folder and burn.
Before you use vision I always play the file in Showtime. If the audio os out of sync there it will be in Vision too.

ok guys...I converted with DivX and I played it back on windows media and on Nero showtime before I tried to burn it but the sound is still out of sync. Should I try to burn it anyway, or do I need to do something else?

oh, Hey, nevermind my last post. It straightened out and I was able to get a successful burn through recode that plays great...Thanx for all your help...you all definately know how to lead the blind.
Ripper, unfortunately I still could not get the burnng rom to open the file. When I would try to add it I could find the folder but it wouldn't show any contents. There has to be something I'm not doing right...Maybe I need the pictures you offered...lol. Thank you though. You and Binkie must be the most patient people I have ever met online.
