When I said I have really old drives... dell 8250 really old drives.

My burner is a _NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A and the only burn speed is 2.4x. There hasn't been a firmware update since 2004 and even that one is corrupted/unusable on the NEC official site.

I haven't had a failed burn since I started using quality media and the nero scans look great. It still sucks having to wait 20-30 minutes to burn though.

I keep expecting Harrison Ford to bust in my window, sucker punch me and yell "it belongs in a museum" as he runs away with my tower.

lol yeah ,remember new optical drives are inexpensive nowadays between 25 to 40 dollars for a good one
