Dude - I've got the same problem on a PS2 V9 using fliptop.
I've burned cdloader on quality media at the lowest speeds and I get that red background with pink/blue border.
I also tried using SMD CD 3.2 for Cd-backups and that doesnt even load 99% of the time.
So I started using dvdloader and it loads up fine, but then the backups wont boot - I get "Enter original PS or PS2 disk" in red mist (especially Hitman: Contracts which was burned on ridata g04 at 1x and read at 1x using dvd decryptor). WTF.
I've read so many threads and followed directions verbatim from everyone. My lens is clean and so are the disks.

OK i think i've sussed everything now for the V9
insert SMD DVD
swap using tool for DVD loader
press eject and insert your SMD DVD agian
then a screen should come up with 2put in a DVDr by EA method at this swap for your back-up.

Conny,
The backup thing i'm trying to do is snes-station, it's something that allow you to play snes games on you PS2. The only problem, you need to burn those files on a cd. But for the cd to work, you need to use cdloader with swap magic.
But if i burn dvdloader, will i be able to read a cd-r after that or will it only look for DVD?
Or got anything else in your pocket to make cdloader works on v9 Ps2

conny - that's exactly what I do.
I'm gonna try using DVD+R and see what happens as this seems to work with other "problem" backups (the ones that need dvdloader). I just figured ritek would be the best and only way to go. Oh well, if anythng, Hitman will be "un-"backable for me.

Ok after reading the suggestions in this thread I have come to no success. PS2 V.9, Swap Magic 3.2, slide card
This is what I did..
1. Insert SMCD
2. Eject SMCD which it then asks me to refresh TOC.
3. I insert a game (not sure which one so I have tried Xenosaga, Tenchu Wrath of Heaven, Dark Cloud 2, and Wild Arms 3) and close cd drive.
4a. I use slide card to swap out with True Crime or Hitman Contracts backup press Square and it gives me the big ol' failure "Please insert a PS or PS2 disk".
4b. Then I tried to insert SM DVD and press Square. It then goes back to the "Please insert a PS..." screen.
4c. Then I insert a SM DVD and press X, screen flashes red and boots to the SM DVD screen. Then I use slide card, swap out SMDVD with True Crime/Hitman Contracts back and I get the blue bar at top. Next it goes to load up gives me an opening movie (ie. Activision logo) and then freezes.
4d. Then I insert a SM DVD and press Square, screen flashes red and boots to the SM DVD screen. Then I use slide card, swap out SMDVD with True Crime/Hitman Contracts back and I get the blue bar at top. Next it goes to load up gives me an opening movie (ie. Activision logo) and then freezes.
5. I take a deep breath, give a big sigh, and back to the forums here.
Suggestions on this one guys?

I previously have tried a CD Loader and it did not work, I am currently trying to get my hands on a DVD Loader so I can get someone to burn it to a DVD because I am thinking that is my only option and I do not own a DVD burner. But alas I cannot get into the website that has the software because they are not allowing people to register currently so I am pretty much screwed.

Conny, Yes I do. I have a Ver 4. I can play my SW DVD but NOT my SM CD; therefore I need to try the DVD loader.

hey im new to this i just got my dvd burner a week ago and i have ritec 4x dvd-r ive tried this method
1.enter SM CD
2.Eject enter a real big ps2 disc refresh toc
3.switch game with backup (fliptop or slide card) press square
i was trying to play my backup of medal of honor rising sun i refreshed the toc with ffx it just spins around and does nothing
ive also tried to use the sm dvd version 2.0 it tells me to insert the disk i insert my back up of medal of honor rising sun and i get nothing the disk spins around crazy and makes this annoying sound
does dvd loader work ive trying to get the copy of the forum but it wont let me go on it.Can somebody please send it to deeloc101@hotmail.com
it would be much apprciated.

am i understanding correctly that with the Disc refresh toc u can get DVDS to work with the magic swap CD (not dvd) cuz im getting CRAZY (magic swap cd almost always works and magic swap dvd almost never it takes me like 50 try's while my dvd backups player perfectly once the dvdmagicswap boots

I'm in the same boat. I found something called dvdloader on a spanish language site but on the screen it's named ps2loader. It doesn't sound like the dvdloader program everyone is talking about here.

can u tell me why u need dvdloader? maybe its the same reason i need it, but im still not sure if i do. i have a version 7 or 8 ps2 and want to play splinter cell pandora tomorrow. i have the no swap mod chip installed but i still get the "insert ps2 disc" after selecting "new game"

Damn it, I still cannot find anyone who can burn the DVD Loader onto a DVD for me so that I can get the rest of my backups to work *sigh* just my luck. =(
