I cant believe how much faster my startup is, I can already see why other programs are known to be resource hogs. I thought my system was fast before (AMD Opteron 175 OC'd @ 2.6) but this is niiiiiiice!
Keep the information flowing and thanks again.

Several tech pro's recommend that one, I've ran into it a few times.
If you run SpywareBlaster, there's no need for it, I'll look into it anyway.
Thanks FartDude :-)

Yea i have noticed that spywareblaster does add sites to the restricted zone,i like ie spyad along with zoned out for adding and merging and updating blacklists. there is also a rather larger amount of bad sites listed under iespyad , i think Spybot (immunize feature) and spyware blaster together gave me 13,000 restricted sites. and with iespyad and zoned out.. with all three lists merged it totals too 25,000 or so.. give or take some :P

Hey rav009, great guide.
Just one question: What's your opinion on 'AVG Internet Security'?

my personal solution to free windows security is AVG FREE EDTION, SPYWAREBLASTER, Ad-Aware PERSONAL EDTION FREE, WINDOWS DEFENDER, and once a month scan at trend-micro housecall. I have been bug/virus free since.

Has anybody ran the Comodo Anti Virus I've done it over and over and when I go to enable on access scan it keeps coming up with an error. Also keeps reading need a complete scan even after it's done it twice . Chris

@sandi-,
Glad you liked it =D
@Fartdude,
I'll check into that, BTW you've been added to the credits list.
@ChrisC586,
Can't say I have but the folks at Comodo are very helpful in matters like this and will certainly sort you out:

Had contacted them in the last few days with no replys but after going into the forum from the link you posted they have a lot of bugs to work out . I'll wait till after the first of the year for more updates. The av isn't recognized by Windows as of yet either Thanks rav009 Chris
Edit I'm running AVG free which has been great, but I really like the Comodo firewall over the Zone Alarm and I figured their Anti Virus would be good too.I liked the idea of 3 programs in one place. But since it's still in developement there's no rush.

Your welcome Chris, you should check out AVG free or Avast Home Edition if your waiting for the bugs to be stamped out.

trend micro does have anti-spyware scanner but you can also go to windows security center and do one there, panda software used to have one but I don't think its available anymore. here is a link to windows http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm

@rav009,
Like many of my friends that use AVG Free I have noticed the possibility of it becoming a pay only program. Is this true? And if so what should we use in its place. btw thanks for your help here and in the P2P protection forum too. lol.

Hey Greensman :-)
As far as I know, AVG free is free for the life of the product, so the possibility of it turning into shareware is slim, if it DID turn shareware there's always the other AV's in this thread.
And for the help in the P2P forums, your welcome :-)

@rav009,
Thanks for the reply. I have received a couple of notices along with the family memebers that use AVG Free that it may not be free after the first of the year. I thought you being the authority on the subject might know something more than a n00b like myself. lol. If it becomes the case I will definitely try one of the few products you recommend. Thanks again for your patience and expert help.
Another question. You feel that the windows firewall is inadequate for most purposes? I was thinking of going to Comodo per your recommendations. Good idea or not?
