Seriously? Ouch, he got burned. Unless somebody had a laugh by putting Corsair stickers on Elixir mods... If it was a Corsair module with Nanya chips there'd be no Elixir badge.

No wonder they try and blag that Nanya chips are "high performance" then! There will undoubtedly be some good and bad experiences with Elixir, but on the whole they seem bad. Interestingly, Elixir-Nanya was also used in Radeon 9600 Pros...

the thing is that at the price i paid i would of got them anyway regardless of the make as at that time as was, shall we say less enlightened.
does anyone know much about riva tuner? lets start at the beggining, last night i was using 3dmark03 and i was trying to get higher than the 12500mark but the coolbits overclocking option had vanished, it was in the regedit but not in the control panel, any way i downloaded rivatuner after reading some good things about it but i cant seem to find any guides on how to use it. i have had a look at what it does/says and apparently there is 4 pixle pipes not being used (nice) but can/how do i activate them? the other thing is it is saying that the gpu/mem is still running at the overclocked timings, now if i change things will it over ride them or just add to them?
i know thats a few questions but if you have any ideas that would be great.

Typically unused pipelines are unlocked by BIOS flashing.

marsey99,
open riva tuner.
Below where it shows your graphics card/monitor hit customize.
6 boxes will appear, hit the first one(low level system settings).
Go down to graphics processor configuration and tick allow enabling hardware masked units, then hit customize.Highlight any pixel unit that is disabled by left clicking on it.Then you will see at the top a heap of zero's and ones. One of them will be a zero highlighted in blue.
Change it's value to 1 by hitting 1 on your keyboard.
Then click apply. Then click ok.Now restart your system and re-open riva tuner and have a look to see if the extra pipes are enabled.

wont enable it but it is there.
when i go into the low-level system tweaks, were it says graphics proc config, it says custom (16pp,5vp) but on the front page under the name of my card it says {A2,12pp,5vp} any ideas what the a2 is for?
i think it might have to wait, as the only bios's i have found have been for other makes of card, none that have been hacked or fixxed or whatever you will call it.
g80s, 128 pp's adam and eve it?

A2 is your bios revision.
Sounds like it's locked,(mine is too).
Powerstrip is a good o/clocking program if you want to squeeze a bit more out of it.

With your cpu @ this temp..............Just imagine the possibilities???
Quote: If you're going to measure really low temperatures, it gets messy talking about minus 200-and-something degrees C, so the scientists switch over to the Kelvin Scale. You don't call them Kelvin degrees, just Kelvins. One Kelvin is the same size as a Celsius degree. So the Kelvin scale is like the Celsius scale, but offset with a lower zero point. Absolute zero is Zero Kelvin, which is -273.15ºC, or 273.15 degrees colder than the freezing point of liquid water into ice. This is the absolute coldest temperature possible, and we've never ever got to it. In fact, Quantum Mechanics suggests that we can never get to it.

how long before someone turns a fridge into a case?
would you buy one?
should i be writing to the patent office?
or is this another one of my daft ideas?
edit
@crowey,
had a look at that one and its more confusing than rivatuner, ive gone back to just using coolbits, so that i have less stuff running at once, but i have read that ati tool will work with my card and that it is easier to get the max oc out of your card with that as you can see the artifacts in some box with that. dont know yet as its some thing i will be trying tonight.

Too late! They already have cases with refrigeration built in and of course, the VapoChill!

i thought they only cooled your cpu and gpu? along the same lines as water cooling does. i mean like the whole of the case is cooled like a fridge.
edit
had a play with ati tools and coolbits, 371fps with the furry cube @ 625 core, 840mem but it gave me artifacts ingame so i dropped the mem to 835 and its sound but that dropped the furry cube to 365fps.
the core wont pass the test in coolbits any higher, and my temps are upto 62c after 45mins gameplay. i might voltmod it after i get a new cooler for it.

That's the way I understand it. I got that information a couple of months ago from someone I respect in another forum. I've never seen one but I'll bet it's expensive to run! Should really eat up the Amps! LOL!!!

Quote: In the VapoChill, the evaporator is fastened to the CPU socket and a 1mm thick copper disk presses against the CPU core.
I know that! I was just meaning "in addition"! I see all kinds of refrences to A/C cases but all of them seem to be custom. I was under the impression that it was something commercially available.
By the way, the one Vapochill I have seen had a consideribly thicker plate for the CPU than 1 mm! More like about 3/8". The way I understand it is the refrigerant flows through it, otherwise it couldn't take away the heat!
Got my new MB today! Idles at 31C! Fully stressed it hits 57C, and that's at 3.81! Ser. # is about 70,000 newer than my old one! The only mistake I made was not taking out the on-board sound software before I put a Sound Blaster Live card in it. I turned it off in the BIOS but the software interfered with the SBL card! Finally had to bring it up in Safe Mode to remove the software. Sounds great, what with 425 Watts pushing it from the Sony. I'm used to having a high end Stereo as I used to have "Quad" and then Dolby Surround using 4 Klipsh Horns, 1 in each corner of my music room when I lived back east. In my opinion the K-Horns are the best speaker in the world. All you need is a good clean signal going to them! You don't even need a lot of Watts as they are so efficient!

7600gt, that seems about right, with your x1900 having x2 the pps and x2 the mem bandwidth

Looks like the P5B Asus board is the board to get at the moment if you have a core2 Duo chip.
Quote: Even more exciting is that ASUS says they have found a way to unlock up or down most Conroe chips. This will be a significant new feature that is highly desired by many Core 2 Duo buyers. It didn't take but a few minutes for us to get the new BIOS flashed and a Core 2 Duo chip mounted to check this out.
Quote: A pattern has been developing for some time in test results from Core 2 Duo chips. The 2MB Cache chips, the E6300 and E6400, are generally overclocking a bit better than the 4MB E6600, E6700, and X6800 chips. Since performance of the 2MB is a bit lower than the 4MB cache at the same frequency, this means you can make up for some of the 2MB cache deficiency with the ability to run at a faster speed.
Quote: The new 0507 BIOS for the P5B Deluxe, dated 8/10/2006, has two new and exciting features:
1. Provide better maximum overclocking.
2. Add the ability to adjust the multiplier of most Conroe CPUs even if they are not Extreme Edition.

depends how lucky you are with the cpu.
you might need some water cooling to stay stable at 4g, but some good air could get you close.

I've broken wine glasses with a good low distortion 10 watt amplifier (Heathkit Audiophile Series) and a K-Horn! Awsome speakers. If you saw the source of all that good sound you would laugh yourself silly! Most Bass Reflex design speakers sound great with only the design of the sound path and the materials it's made of determining how good it sounds. K-Horns are made of wood, glue and about 30 Lbs. of brass screws. They are also extremely heavy!
