Wow a 50 pack of Verb DL's would be great to have, but no Sam's Club near me. I ended up getting a 25-pack of Sony DL's (from Staples price matched because I didn't want to make the journey to Best Buy)

Did you get the Sony Verbs? You maybe should have made that trip to Best Buy, because Sony DL media that is made in Singapore is made by Verbatim, and Best Buy has some of those. Cheapest Verb DL deal around, especially if you use the 10% off BB coupon. Oh well, next time.

At the Sam's Club I checked, the Verb DLs were made in India. Haven't had occasion to try any India verbs yet, so I'll wait.

Don't know but I was in my local Kroger grocery store this weekend looking for discounted school supplies for my kid, and low and behold I ran into 250 Maxell dvd+r's (Maxell-002). They were packaged in 25 count cake boxes and discounted to five bucks a piece. (They were discontinued) I just had take them off there hands . .. .. :)

Look for the latest firmware update from HP,but their practices keep firmware updates to a minimum so we users have to upgrade to newer/faster drives to keep up with the faster speeds of media.
You will have a harder time finding slower speed of blank media,so you may want to consider upgrading to a newer drive and use if strictly for burning. Then you can use the HP 400c drive as the reader. Most HP burners are not on the quality side, but excellent readers.
Gottawin: Thanx for the tip. I will check on my local Kroger's and look to see if they have any dvd media on clearance. Those Maxell002-00 are very fine discs.
