I have just tried using my DVD-Writer on a FireWire port rather than USB 2.0 and the only DVD-R I tried has failed at 6% with the same SCSI_ABORTED message...

Hello Everyone,

There has to be a catalyst somewhere causing these issues, as I've tried to duplicate the issue on my systems using the same recorders mentioned by a number of users on this forum, such as the Pioneer 108, NEC Recorders, etc and I just can not duplicate the issue. I've tried clean and 'dirty' systems, and the log files and Nero InfoTool files are not showing me anything that I would normally associate with 'possible problems'. I've tried duplicating a few systems as closely as I can based on the information provided, but no results.

One of our Engineers would like to try a possible work around. For those who are interested, its a fairly painless process. You must have Nero 6.6.0.1 installed on your system. Just send me an Email at techsupport4@nero.com and indicate that you are having this issue with the 'SCSI Command' error and would like to beta test the work around with the MMC file.

I will send you an Email with the MMC.DLL file. You would need to first go to the C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero directory and rename the MMC.DLL file located there to MMC.BAC. Then you would copy the MMC.DLL file I provided to you in the Email to the Nero Folder.

Nero together with this new mmc.dll will now temporarily reduces the transfer length and repeats the write command when the error occures, and continues to write.

For those interested, please send me an Email at:
techsupport4@nero.com

I think my problem is sorted after installing a new driver for my USB 2.0 PCI card. Since then I have successfully burnt 10 DVD-R in a row at 4X.

I have noticed something weird in my Device Manager after messing with the USB drivers : I now have two sets of "Universal Serial Bus controllers" categories as you can see in this screenshot :
http://img120.exs.cx/img120/7366/screen2.jpg
Anyone know if this is something usual ?

Anyway I am not gonna complain about that as long as my DVD-Writer works :)

Guys, as I stated earlier (look my posts above) I haven't had any issues with nero until I burned my very first +R. I didn't even reboot the system in between, I was burning -Rs one after another and as soon as I burned my very first +R (without any problems) -Rs stopped working. And it's not like they don't work all the time. They do occasionnaly work, but my burner fails to burn them it fails to read any -Rs previously burned.. but later it can read them and can even burn them sometimes. I'm out of idias. And as I stated earlier, I tried burning them on a different OS (different drive but same pc) and it fails there as well. But it burns +Rs without any problems, so I"m using them instead but I'd love to see this issue fixed since I have about 100 good -Rs laying around (MCC & TT)

I'm thinking maybe it's somehow related to usb/power supply. I believe my dell dimension 4550 has only 250W power supply. Although I burned without any problems with half a dozen usb devices attached and when I started having problems I disconnected all devices but it didn't help. Also, I now have a firewire card installed, not sure if it makes any difference, but I burned over 50 -Rs from the hard drive connected to it without any problems. Could something have changed in the bios?? and if so, what should I look for and what triggered the change?

LeeM

Hi all, firstly I have read most of the threads attached to this problem of the SCSI comand abort. I have been able to over come the problem with my laptop and external usb burner.
Firstly my set up, I have a sony viao lap top,2.2 gig celeron procesor, 192 meg ram, windows xp pro, with service pack 2. I have a LG 4210b burner housed in an external case (unknown brand) usb 2.
I had the same problem as all with the burning of coasters, I tried formatting a couple of times and reinstalling every thing with no luck. After talking to my brothers new brother in law, he seemed to think it may have something to do with the usb drivers that came with the recovery discs from sony. He sugested that I try to do a clean install from a stand alone copy of windows xp and not to use the recovery disks. This has fixed the problem as I have just finished burning around 20 dvds in the last week.
The only problem I am haveing is that now I get the message that I have a high speed device conected to a low speed usb port. Apperently all I have now are 1.1 usb ports (3 all up) but the burner works. I have tried to update the usb drives and when I do it reverts back to the SCSI comand abort again.
The only problem is it is slow but it does not write coasters. I am thinking that there is definatly a problem with the usb drives, but if you try this it may work or if there are some people out there who can comment on this and prehaps suggest some better drivers to work with ?????
Good luck to all and I hope this helps you all and by all means any more suggestions

I just want to update you all in my attempts to figure this problem out. I can tell you that I am using Nero with the Roxio popup DRAG-N-DROP on the screen and Roxio does not appear to have any effect on the Nero burn process.
I did find that if I use a DVD RW and use Nero to quick ERASE the DVD, I can still se a greyed out file in the window even though the DISC tools tells me it has no file and is blank.
Note that if i try to burn with this greyed out file in the window, then I ALWAYS get a failure. BUT, If I exit back to the start menu ( or exit completely from Nero ) and reselect the MAKE DATA DISK with the DVD tab depressed. It will work fine.

I too think its USB drivers related.

I'm using the intergrated ports on my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe v2. This uses the nForce2 Ultra400 chipset, but i'm not sure if this includes the USB, or whether its a different chip. There is no mention of the USB chip in the manual, and i can't check the motherboard itself until it arrives on Sunday. (Just moved house, and my stuff are still being shipped!)

in repsonse to what johnnyv65 has experienced.
is it just those who have only usb1.1 on their machines and use a usb 2 card or hub with service pack 1 who have these problems? certainly the case for me.
this would definitly point to the usb drivers.

i've tried directly onto my USB 2.0 port, and via a USB 2.0 hub, attached to my USB 2.0 port.

I'm using Win2k with SP4.

Same issues everytime:

DVD-R - never successful
DVD+RW - 50% of the time successful.

Update on my situation: SCSI errors gone!

My setup is a Compaq R3000Z laptop w. 3 USB2 ports (nForce3 150 chipset), Bytecc ME-320 USB enclosure w. Ali chipset, a Pioneer DVR-108 and Nero 6 software.

When burning CDs at more than 16x and DVDs at any speed, burns would mostly fail w. the SCSI command error. Burner works fine when installed internally or in a firewire enclosure, and it almost worked fine (could fail burning DVDs at 12x) in the USB enclosure when hooked up to a Dell laptop. So I suspected the nForce3 150 chipset in my laptop to be at fault (read somewhere that nForce2 chipsets had issues too).

Having received an email from Craig I updated my Nero software once again and installed the MMC.DLL file he sent me. This appears to have cured my setup. I burned a mix of 5 data DVDs, both DVD-R and DVD+R at speeds of 8x and 12x and testing all 3 USB ports. Success rate 100%.

So try it out if you haven't already. I hope it will put an end to the frustrations for some of the rest of you too. Thanks to Craig for his effort!

Thats good news.

I too am going to try the patch from Nero, and give it a try, as i'm also using a nForce chipset.

I mailed Craig for a trial of the patch.

I loaded 6.6 demo and ran a burn in Simulate mode.  It failed on SCSI Command Aborted as expected.

I then updated the mmc.dll file and tried again.  This time it failed with Command Sequence Error.

I have reloaded 6.3.1.25 as I had previously been able to burn to CD-R and DVD-R using DAO/96 mode instead of just DAO.. I guess I'll just have to use this mode untill Nero can come up with a final solution.
Craig said he has had several reports from testers that the mmc.dll file does the trick so it is definitely worth a try. Just didn't work in my case.
Good luck.

Not sure which version. I downloaded it last week so it should be the latest. I might reload it later and find out for sure.

Hi All,

Colfin had Nero 6.6.01, thats the version of Nero 6.6 posted on our website.

So far the results are mixed. For some it works, for some it does not, and for some it works intermitently or just once.

So far it looks like this is not a satisfactory work around to the problem. But I'll wait for more feedback from other users.

Just to be clear, it does appear that this is not a 'bug' in our software, based on the results of those here and our own testing, and the fact that a number of other Recording programs have the same issue, though not all of course. I've had a number of Recorder MFG's test on their QA systems with the USB drive and our software, and they are not seeing this either.

We'll keep at it of course. We'll either find a work around in our software, or a solution some other way. :-)

Regards,

Craig

Craig is right. I tested with 6.6.0.1 and had no luck with the patch.
Problem is, I reloaded 6.3.1.25 and now am back to where I started, not being able to burn DVDs.
(sigh)
Back to the drawing board. I hope I can stumble across what got me working before. There must have been some combination of fixes that I tried that actually got my burning going.
I've tried the 6.6.0.1 load and patch again in the hope that I wasn't holding my tongue right the first time but still no go. lol
aaaagh!

Thank God for Ghost Images.
I'm back in business burning to DVD-Rs again.
Should have thought about reloading my saved image earlier and saved waisting so much time.
Wish I new what the differences were between the two setups.

I've read this thread......

I've had the same problem. I use a Toshiba Tecra with a usb2 port and a Toshiba Satellite with a usb1.1 port. I don't have any problems recording to DVD on usb1.1 but as soon as I try using my PCMCIA usb2 card or the Tecra, I burn coasters. My burner is a Pioneer 108 and the external usb2 case.

I've experience this problems with whatever software I've used.. Nero, Intervideo, Roxio, etc.

Would love a solution quickly as burning a 1.1 speed is a drag.

hi all,

i am one of the people who started this thread... and scince then i have made over 200 ,yes, TWO HUNDRED, dvd-rs with only 3 that failed with the scsi command error...... all of these have been made with Nero and all have been made on the same media ,Prodisc 1x-4x DVD-R Matte Silver with AZO Dye, Certified Grade-A by Pioneer, Media ID PRODISCS03, i get these from americal.com for about $33.00 including 2nd day shipping...

during my troubleshooting i tested the drive , a sony dru510, on three different systems useing ,firewire, usb2, usb1,and internal ide. i tryed all the different software i could find including Nero, dvdxcopy, and many others. the only os i used was windows xp home..

what i noticed was.... this problem started just after an update from our friends at microsoft back in july and that the one thing in common with all the failers was that they only were burnt upto the fine ring about 5mm from the center hub , i have only seen this ring on dvd-r but not on the dvd+r, and have yet to have an error with the dvd+r. i also ran a speed test on my drive and noticed that while it was a 4x it ran better at 2x

what i have done to fix this is , each time i get a scsi command error i rezero the drive useing dvd decryptor , craig would you folks at Nero please add a utilty to Nero for this... on knees begging...,and burn and what Nero sets for the maximum speed, speed setting in the burn dialoug says max and when it starts the log says 1x but the time taken is only about 1 hour start to finish.... faster than setting it to 1x manualy...

i hope this helps you all and if you go back and read the rest of my postes you may find stuff that i might have left out of this one... and i will be happy to answer any questions that i can but please expect about a one week delay as i am away from home for a week or more at a time thanks all

Chaps,
I have been able to fix my problems with burning CD's or DVDs.

I tried many things to try and get Nero working (in my case Nero as well as other software) all failed only managed 3 successful burns out of approx 20!

I dual booted my Windows2000 laptop with Windows XP (fresh Install) + service pack 2 got initialy one burn then the rest failed. Tried again back on Windows 2000 again the same problem.

So I went out and bought another External USB enclosure and put my Pioneer dvr-108 into this device, guess what NO SCSI errors !! I have burn approx 12 CD'd and 2 DVD's so far, on both windows 2000 and WindowsXP so it's nothing to do with Nero or any other software (in my case)

The difference though is my new enclosure has a 240ac to 12vDC (I'm in the UK) adaptor attached to it and my old enclsoure had a straight 240V (kettle lead as we call them) into the enclosure. I am sure that inside the enclosure there was some power conversion going but this is where I think the problems lie.

Each time I connected the old USB enclosure to the machine and the DVD driver was switched off, the pc detected the device but as the DVD writer was switched off it couldn't recognise what the devoce was, and there was a USB failure to connect. I had to always switch on the DVD writer and then connect to my machine for it to "plug and play" properly. With my new enclosure I can plug in the device to the computer with the DVD Writer switched off and then switch it on when required and it is only then the computer "sees" the USB device.

So my thinking is there is probably some residual power leaking from the old enclosure into the USB port enough for the computer to detect but not enough for pure "plug and play" this may be interfering with the power rating for the USB conection.

Alternatively it could be just a duff device and my theory is total rubbish nothing to do with the power thingy....in any case strange how I was getting the same problems as most of you guysand now its all gone away.

It seems fairly clear to me that the Pioneer drives are a very common listing in this error situation?

I have a Memorex Dual X-1 drive (which I am led to believe is actually a rebadged Pioneer 106D drive?) in an external enclosure which also (surprise surprise!) does not work at all with any recording function.

I can read CDs without any trouble and windows detects and installs the drive perfectly.

I'll swap the DVD unit out of the enclosure at some point in the future and see if it works then.

I think it is a combination of the external drive and the USB enclosures at fault here.

One thing that I can do is ERASE CDRWs with Nero6?

I can erase disks but not record them - weird!

Tell it like it is - NOT how it should be!

Ref this scsi command abort error.
Hi all, I have been reading this post holding some hope to someone solving it, I helped my neighbour set up a dvd burner pioneer 107, via an enclosure onto his laptop. At first it worked very well indeed, using Nero 5.5, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. No fails.
Then about a month ago, he called me in, as his burner was failing... yep dreaded scsi command ... I like many others found this site... tried many things, restoring system to an earlier time etc.. I suspected SP2...as it was all that had changed since I first set it up for him...but reading here not so sure now.
I have tried re-installing all burning software, and installing new Nero with same results. Cannot yet see a perfect fix here...so I am planning on wiping his laptop...next week, complete FDISK, then re-installing everything, but turning off auto updates from Microsoft. If this works I will post back here.
I will not use the lastest Nero but the 5.5 he has that was working fine last month.
Craig at Ahead, well done, I have read your posts like an eagle.. its nice to see a company taking concerns and doing all it can to resolve the issue, even though it may turn out not to be a Nero problem.
I am not sure what set up he has exactly..but the results are the same as posted here already...5 mm burn on inside of disc, he has about 25 coasters, tried using a dvdrw but that wont even attempt a burn.
The burner was tested in a tower system and works fine.I did try the enclosure on my tower, it almost completed a burn, but failed with DAO error towards the end of burn... not sure which USB port to use on my system though, so It may have not been in a usb2 port..as I am sure it also said something about speed sense error..but dont hold me to that.
Anyway...I hope someone works out why this seems to be limited to dvd burners...using usb2 ...via an enclosure...connected to laptops...I am convinced it is something to do with either the USB driver...or the circuit board interface inside the enclosures...anyway thanks all for the advice..I have spent hours pondering this, and failing.
One last thing, Craig... you say you are unable to make this happen... are you using an older Laptop..cheapy make enclosure..first using windows xp SP1.... do a load of burns ....then let SP2 update..and then try doing 20+ burns??...this here was working fine...last thing I can see that updated was SP2... but removing that from system did not stop error..but who knows whether it REALLY removed everything it did...hence the reason I am going to do a full FDISK.
Anyway guys..lets hope someone solves it..shall keep you posted...and thanks Afterdawn for an excellent website..truly awesome.
Grim.

I tried new mmc.dll and it DID NOT help on my work desktop. Looks like "SCSI command aborted" is suppressed/fixed
but other error "Reset occurred" appear/remaining. But when I turn off "DVD
high compatibility mode" it start working.
