Right,
Got one of the 4/5 eeprom's I found from around my XBOX. Checked the first one and it matched the Serial Number on the bottom of my XBOX. Used eeprom and put it in the EEPROM folder in xboxhdm. Used the fresh dashboard files from the link provided and successfully built a new HDD from scratch and locked it.
Swapped the HD's over in the XBOX and booted up with no game in. After minutes of waiting at the start-up screen (where the WHITE Microsoft logo is displayed), without a Microsoft logo for the most of it, and went into Error 13.
Shutdown the XBOX and booted up with a disk in (Splinter Cell, the one I originally used to softmod ;)). Again same as last time but this time Error 21.
I've googled around I've concluded that it's something to do with corrupted dashboard files?
So my question is, should I go about 'clearing' these errors? Many guides on fixing these errors assume you're using the original XBOX HD and I don't want to mess [the new 500GB one] up. So can anyone recommends the best way?
Thanks!

I'll try locking it with XBOXHDM w/ the 'correct' eeprom now. Thanks.
EDIT: Once I've transfered over the eeprom.bin do I just do File>Open Image in Xplorer360? It dosn't seem to do anything? Sorry if this seems stupid, I've ever used Xplorer360 before.
Ooooops..
I think I give you a bumbsteer in my last post.. SORRY tired & worn out from chasing bushfires..
Find the eeprom.bin file (ftp 1 by 1 to PC) & open with LiveInfo Beta 3...
that will load the eeprom details. then match the Serial number from the eeprom with your console..
make sure you keep that 1 & delete the rest.. (then double check it to make sure you kept the correct file)
Use Xboxhdm to build the new hdd with correct eeprom (as per tut you have already used)& also might be worth getting a clean copy of the dash file - http://rapidshare.com/files/14478719/ms-dash-mik3h.rar
MS Dash 5960.. be sure to follow all deatils of tut as its 100% & it works..
then make sure after the hdd is built lock it with the space in the command..
lockhd -a
** remember to leave the space..

Usage of MY files (MS Dash. etc) is crucial!
If you are using your own files and having problems, I cannot vouch for the tutorial's outcome!
I KNOW that all my files are good, and the tutorials steps are flawless!
If your Serial number on the eeprom (in LiveInfo) matches, then it IS the correct eeprom. There is obviously a locking\unlocking issue!
Obviously you were smart enough to unlock the HDD from the old eeprom first!?

Thanks for the replies.
I used the MS Dash files provided in the link of this thread (yours Chunkhead).
Yes I unlocked it first, once I unlocked it I got all the No's (such as Security Enabled = No, Locked = No, Frozen = No, etc).
I deleted all the other eeprom's and double checked I used the right one when building the linux ISO.
I've read through the thread a million times and I still get this error!
I've also tried connecting the hard drive BEFORE and AFTER XBOXHDM starts, still nothing.
Is there anyway I can use xbrowser to copy over the fresh c/e files again? Without having to 'build a new hdd from scratch'?

Hmm, you may have a funny HDD? It may be on the way out... you may also have a pain in the ass BIOS on your PC. You could also be burning the disc wrong!?
Are you using only the clean MS Dash Files? You're not adding your own E:\ or anything like that?
Do you have a v1.6 Xbox?

Could be a funny hard drive - but noone else with this hard drive has had any [reported] problems. Indeed it could be the computer. The mobo and CPU alone are atleast 3 years old. I'll try it at my friends house.
I'm burning the disc in Nero using the default settings and at 48x speed (when using a CD-R) and 10x when using a CD-RW.
XBOX is version 1.1.

To make it as easy as possible to upgrade your hdd really all you need is a copy of AID 4.10 disk from here :
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/557450#3371151
burn it to a dvd, open your console, swap hdd's (make sure its not locked so you can use it in a PC or whatever) put the dvd in the tray & reboot.
check out the tutorials here :
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/536595#3246424
you will find a few to give you the idea on what you need & what to do etc.

As I believe it to be..
IF the console is chipped, you don't need to lock the hdd.
Get the AID disk onto a DVD & with new hdd in the console boot with AID disk in & then follow the promts etc to prepair the new hdd & then you can install what you need from there.

Well if you take some time to read...
there are many posts that tell the whats/hows/wheres / etc...
Auto Installer Deluxe (AID)
MAKE sure the 120gb hdd is unlocked before you remove it..
check in the system details it will say locked/unlocked.
then shut down , swap drives & reboot with AID disk...
go through the tuts from chunkheads sig... most refer to softmodding , but the AID disk references are all for the same disk.

I have been lurking at afterdawn for a few years now. I have found al lthe info fantastic.
I am currently trying to upgrade my hard drive with an extra I have.. According to the sources out there, my drive is compatable with the xbox, it is a WD 160 gb unit. I first tried to use xboxhdm to no avail. Copying C and E directories and making the linux dvd etc... I ended up with an error 13 code.
Then I tried this method in this thread. I built a stock HD with clean files and it worked fine. I put in mechassault to run the softmod process and as soon as I selected "run linux" I get an error 21 message. I tried putting halo 2 in to reset the dash, then i tried mechassault again and the whole thing froze up.
I since put the old drive back in but I would love to get the 160gb in. What am I doing wrong?

Is your console chipped ??
I assume you were trying to softmod it though due to useing the games..
make sure you have the correct eeprom.bin file.. open it & compair with the serial on the base of your console, then follow chunkheads tuts on how to make the iso for xboxhdm.
as for the games.. they needs to be specific for the softmod. best option is Splinter Cell read this :

i am using a softmod. I softmodded my original hard drive using mechassault with no problems. I used SID 4 to do it. I also made sure that the eeprom is the proper one. I have read chunkheads tutorial and found them very helpful. Still I find myself stuck here. Mechassault worked before.
Can I use the AID to copy the drive? I saw something about chimp being included on the disc and people have reported success with it.

ok im still confused here...
so all i have to do is remove the 120GIG HD from the xbox and replace it with the new 250GIG HD, boot up AID, and it will do everything for me?
or do i have to do something to the other HD first before installing the new one?
its already chipped and has EVOX on it i just wanna upgrade the HD. or do i have to unlock/lock something aswell??
im confused.

I'm away for two days and this thread explodes! :)
Ok...
@ yungjeezy
The information provided to you is 100% correct! Mochipped Xboxs do not need the HDD to be locked as the BIOS on the chip doesn't need it!
Simply insert either AID or Slayers and follow the instructions. As for your drive, maybe you made a bad burn? The AID disc takes about 40 secs to load, give it a bit...! You're sure you have a CHIP yeah...?
@ stinkbud Not sure of exactly what the issue is, however I DON'T trust 'Mechassault'! Get Splintercell if you can, it always works!
Also try SID 5 (in my software section). I personally still use SID 4 as there is no issue with it...

chukhead: yes my xbox is chipped.
its the dvd-rom drive, its a thompson one. i tried doing the pot tweak and still not working, ive tried bought dvds, burned dvds not reading anymore, and it used to read them so im guessin its burnt out.
im tryin get ahold of a replacement eye, or a faulty xbox that still has a working dvd-rom drive, thats my best bet right now.
thanx for all the info though.

Ok, first. Great tutorial chunkhead. But a problem arose after I rebooted to lock the hard drive (SeaGate ST310211A) , i typed lockhd -a and it came up with primary master not found. Ok, checked to see if the jumper was on slave/cable select. Nope, it was/is on master. The IDE cable is coming from the blue IDE port on the motherboard. So it was connected.
I tried out a Samsung harddrive (SV2044D) and I was able to do everything, but lock the harddrive. This time it came up with: This drive does not support the ATA security spec. And everything below says "no".
Each harddrive worked the first time i booted and selected 1 from the xboxhd menu, etc.

There seems to be a lot of this happening at the moment! The only thing I can think of is the BIOS on some motherboards are causing hassle!?
I've personally NEVER had a locking issue, so...
Try my tips found under 'hotswapping' in my tutorials and see if anything changes!
