Is the white socket shown not the DVI output? You can also fit an adapter to enable you to run a second monitor off. I do with mine!

Well this thread seems a bit old but I'll try to get an answer anyway...
I'm going to be building a computer with these components:
Antec solution atx case
antec smartpower 500watt psu
asus a8n-sli motherboard
amd athlon64 3800+ venice retail
msi geforce 6800gt
corsair valueselect 1gb ddr
250gb maxtor diamondmax (7200, 16mb)
floppy, dvd burner, dvd drive
audigy2
gigabyte wireless network pci card
speakers, keyboard, monitor etc etc.
The case comes with 2 120 mm fans, one back and one front. The PSU has 2 80mm: one intake and one exhaust. My questions:
1. Will stock Athlon64 cooling be fine? I won't be doing any overclocking (not for now). Or do I need to get a separate HSF?
2. Will this cooling configuration be alright in general? The case fans are 38 cfm. I'm new to building computers so any cooling input would be great! ;)
edit: By the way, quiet is best for me, I want to be able to hear my music and games at lower volumes over the noise!

I just happended to have used that same spec (board, CPU, vid card, and AMD 3500+) that you use. If the fan on the chipset is working fine then you shouldn't need to change it, although the stock chipset fan fails regularly on that board (you can call Asus and they'll send a replacement for free). I was able to overclock the AMD to 2.72 Ghz stable which can speed things up. That should correct some of your speed problems. The quality of your memory was not mentioned but that too can affect vid game performance. You might also want to drop some of the high quality settings such as anistrophic and anti aliasing along with a a resolution drop.

I have a brand new system (AMD x2 3800+) all in sig, and my CPU keeps overheating. It was running at around 70C just right aftr startup, I turned cool n quiet on, and it didn't help at all. I took the side of my case of and put a floor fan beside my case, and it still did not help. I'm buying this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835193002 and artic silver 5. Will this be substantial enough to cool down my processor? Also, my fans in my computer: One 120mm inlet fan below PSU, one 80mm inlet fan on the side (like 4 inches away from my HSF), one 80mm vent fan on top, PSU fan vent of course. Does the HSF on the AMD blow out away from the HS?? If my side vent had been blowing at it, would that have caused a problem causing my CPU to overheat??? I'm lost and too scared to work on my computer because it shuts off on me after short, non demanding use.

Artic silver or any good thermal paste will help, but not if you're having serious heating problems. I look at thermal paste as "hedging my bet." I think that you might want to look at your room temps, check to see if your Case is well ventilated, check to make sure that your heatsink/fan is seated properly and then worry about thermal paste.:)

You mean my HSF might not be seated correctly. Well that would make alot of sense. I always hate installing those things. I figured if it was locked on, and the latch was where it should be then it was on right. I'll check it out and let you know if that did it.

OMG that was it. Thank you thank you thank you Sophocles. Only one side was locked down. CPU running at 35 right now (quite an improvement from mid 70's at startup. Now I just have my video card right. I made a post in the main forum, here...

Last time I booted up and saw your message about the HSF, it booted up fine. Full res, full 32-bit color. Now, it's back to 640x480 at 4 bit.
Geeze. Well at least I can work on it without my PC shutting down.

I'm going to be building a computer with these components:
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
Asus A8n32-Sli deluxe
VisionTek XTASY Radeon X850 XT 256mb PCIE
OCZ Titanium (2x1gb)
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6V250F0 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
2xCD drives
DVD drive
I will be overclocking the cpu and gpu so I expect to have a significant amount of heat. What should I get to keep it properly cooled?
thanks
edit: I will be using only one gpu at first, but hopefully will have another in 6 months.

Just thought id mention bit off topic for the current convo however.
Im running an Amd-San diego core 3700+ at 2.8Ghz at under load just below 45 degrees. Thats a good overclock and even better cooling. I have an Evo 33 Akasa and it really rocks. Especially the fan dial which comes with it.
Just thought id put in a small little review. If your thinking of getting it or want more just pm me!
