I don't know who's quote this is, and I did look back to see if I could find it. Anyway, The quote is not quite correct. The 965-P chipset was the first existing Chipset to be specifically ported to the C2D. It also is Quad Compatible or for any CPU needing a native fsb to work! Some motherboards don't have the hardware, so a bios flash won't work!

The quote was from a interview with "Rockson Chiang, the Technical Marketing Manager of newly formed Gigabyte United Inc"...
I linked to the interview as well...so people could read it all if they wished...
My confusion was with how could a change to solid capacitors allow a FSB increase...which is what I had thought was the only change besides Bios...between the GA-965P-S3rev1 and a GA-965P-DS3...Plus I thought that the only difference between the S3rev1 and the S3rev3 was a Bios...all components and circuitry being the same...which is not the case at all...
I did not realize that the boards Circuitry was different with additional components...and that the GA-965P-S3rev3 was basically the exact same board as the GA-965P-DS3...with solid caps being the only difference between the 2 boards...Basically the Rev3 board is closer related to the D board then the S board...
Then add the confusion of Gigabytes attempt to enable 1333FSB thru a Bios update for the GA-965P-S3rev1...which at first they were touting...then backed away from...
I can now see why their was all the confusion and mixed statements about what would work...and then not work...in the various articles I was reading on the subject...
Now I finally understand all the nuance's between the 3 boards...

Ok, ok, I'm back :)
So now, I'm looking for a monitor, and having a hard time looking for one, and unsure if it is the right choice. The question now is, what makes a good monitor?

The response time is like 2ms and the max resolution is 1680 x 1050. I think one of you guys told me that the lower response time the better. Thanks again guys, and btw, I'm getting the computer recommended by crowy tomorrow :)

Yes the P965 can support 1333FSB...These were the 3 particular Gigabyte boards we were talking about...We were only talking about FSB support amongst these 3 boards...

The 8600GT is mediocre for a new card. What was it before, a 7600GT? There's no increase in performance, but not much of a decrease, and it is directx10.

personally, I would buy almost any brand dvdrw drive other than Samsung. I would opt for a lite-on, Sony/NEC or even LG. Samsung makes some good products but not dvdrw drives IMO.

Hi guys - need a little help. I just bought an "area 51" case at newegg then went mobo surfing. after finding a decent core 2 duo to run with i went back and referred to the pics of the case and it doesn't seem like anything past the ps/2 ports on the back will match on what i've been looking at on newegg. I thought ATX = ATX but this is only my second build with my first being a few years ago.
Here's a link to a weird review but it has better pics than newegg does of the back panel.
What kind of mobo will work with that case? will i still be able to go for a core 2 duo? (want to try intel this time, last build was amd) or is this case outdated.
Sorry for the messy post - have a bad finger and typing is easiest atm.

The back panel is replaceable...your M/B will come with a I/O panel to fit case...
The case is Ok...there are better cases out there...

The case is $65 Australian dollars, so that's around $55 US. The whole pc is $1518 Australian dollars.
I think I'll just get this pc now, I really don't care now LOL (I need to use MS Word badly, I hate staying up late at uni til like 4 am LOL)

Essentially, the backplate that comes with your case will never usually fit your motherboard, I don't know why they bother. Just use the one that comes with your motherboard, they all do these days.

Back again with another question.
After looking and looking I think I want to go with
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
and I want to plug a
E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz
into it.
It seems that mobo has had lot of use and I won't have any problem getting documention online for my first oc attempt (even if the included docs are short)
The cpu starts out faster than my current machine which is a must for me, I just can't bring myself to purchase a 1.8 when i'm at 2.0...too much like taking a step backwards. According to reviews this cpu can be pushed up to a blazing 3.5GHz, but they didn't say if it was stable or not, and I'd be happy with 3.0 if it will hum happily 24/7 for me.
Reviews on the CPU note the included heatsink/fan is trash, so I would also be interested in suggestions for a better one to buy while buying the cpu. No sense putting on trash just to have to take it off and put a better one on later. A previous post I found searching AD mentioned a brand of grease to use also but I can't remember what it was now =/
Sorry for posting what i'm sure has been posted a billion times, it just seems the more i look at the more confused I got and searching posts here on AD just made it worse lol. Thanks for the help.

Is there any more of an advantage besides the increase in speed? Would it work better with my choice of mobo?
I have a little bit of leeway when it comes to cost but not too much. I didn't figure in the extra costs of cpu cooling and a couple other things when I started. I really like the ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED and have started considering a modular power supply to keep clutter to a minimum.
Please don't get me wrong - i'm not trying to sound unappreciative of your suggestion, i'm just looking for more insight.

I just checked Newegg and the E6750 is cheaper by $4 at $199 and has free shipping!
I don't know about the E6550, but the E6750 will be my choice shortly! It's supposed to be an overclockers dream!
You don't have to go nutso with the CPU cooler, as it is a very cool running chip, by all accounts! I plan on keeping my current Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, when I get mine. I like it and it works well with the on board PWM control. My HSF rarely goes over1400 rpm, and even then only hits 1500! My current E4300, overclocked to 3.2GHz, normally idles below 30C. Shoot me a PM when you get your components and I'll give you a hand with the OC! Neoseekers OC'd one to 3.8 with no difficulty. They actually had it clocked to 4.0 but stability became an issue, so they wouldn't make the claim!
