looks like the theonejrs...convinced you...good choice on the board...btw...Make sure you take theonsjrs up on his offer...he will help you get the most out of that CPU...
Basically the 6750 is the CPU that gives you the best bang for your buck right now...a solid Overclocker...should easily get you to your goal of 3ghz..:)
Whats your budget on the rest of the components?..there are a lot of good deals...right now...

Heh, well if a E6300 can get you up to 3 Ghz, a 6750 most certainly can! BTW I see lots of good deals for Crucial Ballistix Tracer RAM these days. You should consider it, it's very good RAM.

thanks so much for the help.
As far as the power supply - I'm not sure what to budget for. I was thinking that it wouldn't cost me too much as the last one I replaced in a system only cost $15. However after looking through what's available and seeing what they cost...wow lol. I like the modular cables but it seems they're only available on the more costly supplies. I thought I had a mushkin picked out but not sure if it is compatible with the mobo - mobo specs say 24 pin power and the psu specs say 20+4pin.
ram:
If I go crucial - their recommended ram is going to be about $90 for 2gig, but i was hoping to maybe get a better deal on a different brand, and maybe push to 4gig. I've always bought crucial because I wasted $100 buying stuff from best buy once awhile ago, but maybe today there is better options.
video:
want try nvidia as everything I own at the moment is ATI - don't need a whole lot here, just enough to run World of Warcraft and whatever it takes to run bioshock (since my new cpu will meet sys reqs on that game)
storage:
at least 100gb to start
card reader/floppy:
haven't even looked yet- mainly need an SD card reader and don't want the clutter i currently have. not sure if i'll need floppy or not.
thinking it might be best to keep it as close to $300 as possible - i have some flex if it needs it though.

I was gonna recommend the 8800 GTS, but then I say the 300 limit lol. Is that limit for all those components? I don't think you have too much room to work with. The PSU will be costing you a hundred at least, so will the RAM. Considering your budget I would probably go with a 7600 GT for a vid card and a nice mid range HDD. It would be stretching your budget bu you could get it done. My 7600 GT runs Bioshock at 30-35 FPS.

well that's what the flex is good for. i'll just take it one step at a time, that way it won't seem like so much - until the credit card bill arrives lol.
any more good suggestion for psu & ram?

if you hadn't ordered a case I would have recommended a Ultra GRID case with a 700 Watt PSU. I know pack in PSUs are crap but this one is very good(I use it :]). Just a word of advice, it might be very tempting to skimp on the PSU, but please don't do it. It will blow it self to hell while taking your PC and maybe your house with it.

I would budget more then $15 on P/S..:) you can destroy your beautiful new parts trying to do something like that...
The 20+4 is the same as 24...4 pins are detachable to work with 20 pin boards...
You do not need 4Gb of ram unless your running planning on running a 64 bit O/S...The last 1Gb will be useless...
I am hearing of people having problems with Bioshock...unless they are running a top tier card...which would make it hard to hit your $300 mark...
Where are you located?..It will help on finding best priceing with tax and shipping...
@abuzar1
I was joking about the 3ghz...I'm sure theonejrs will have him flying right by that..:p

nighters,

It is 24 pin. It's just made to be able to remove 4 for 20 pin motherboards

Here's a good deal on cas 4 PC6400 Corsair XMS! $64 after MIR. If you want 4GB, have a friend get another pair for you. Much less expensive than 2x2GB as it would only be $128 for 4x1 of high quality memory. Windows will only show 3GB!

Here's a good price on the mid to high end 7600GT. 590MHz clock, 1600MHz memory. $89 with MIR. I have a little lower end model (570 clock/1450 memory) and overclocked it to 650/1600 with no problems. Probably the best bang for the buck on a budget! Tough to beat at that price! No external PCIe power plug needed, either!

As far as a Floppy goes, I prefer to have one even though I don't use it very often. They are cheap to buy anyway. I even took the front plastic pieces off and painted them Silver to match my case (Dupli-Color #8800910). Looks nice, all Silver drives!

The shading was caused by the flash! Looks very nice by normal room light
Don't know a thing about card readers. Maybe someone here can recommend something in that area!

Quote: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) $129 after a $25 Rebate...
I was considering nighter's budget and it is for 4MB. DDR2/800 should be fine, and it overclocks well!

I'm a bit of an XFX fanboy, and the XFX is considerably faster in memory speed. That's why I passed on recommending the EVGA!

Man...Another..."Best Regards"...LOL..:p
I like your choice of memory...The PC 8500 just has more head room...If he can afford it...that is why I stated if he had the "Wiggle Room"...
I just don't see the point in 4GB...It is just a waste of money if he is not going to use a 64 bit OS...The last GB will be a complete waste...He is better of with the 2GB of PC 8500...
I absolutely like your card choice better...I have the Exact same card...
The EVGA card will...however...suit his purpose with quite a bit of saving on the initial price...with out a significant performance decrease...
I was just giving him options...and a way to afford the P/S that I suggested...I want to keep him away from a $15 P/S and all the problems that could entail...

I can help you with that. Any particular brands you are looking at?? You want to use SATA right??
Lite-on LH-20A1S $38.39 delivered ZZF (you can get un-official f/w too!! Makes the drive better IMHO.)
Samsung SH-203B $38.99 delivered ZZF
LG GSA-H62K $37.49 delivered ZZF (little more difficult drive but produces GOOD burns)
I "picked" ZZF because they were a few cents cheaper than Newegg delivered. :)
I think the Lite-on's are "easy" drives right now because they have so many features and will book-type right out of the box. AFAIK of the 3 that I picked they are the only ones with an update in f/w available. :)
Take a look and see what you think. :)

Up until Starforce got its way, my NEC ND-4570 has been quite good. The only burners I'd refuse to buy are the ones a lot of people swear by, the Benqs. The build quality would have to have improved a LONG way since 2002 for them to be considered 'good'

The problem with Benq drives is they are like buying a lottery ticket. You pays your money and takes your chances. If you get a good one fine but don't count on it! LOL!!
