This post refers to the previous manual posted by mgb17 and any others with the experience of flashing images to a Dbox2.
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could tell me what connections I actually need to connect my dbox2 to my PC to flash an image.
There are two cables mentioned in the manual which are a Null modem cable which connects via the serial port on the dbox2 into the serial port at the back of my PC. It also says I must have a cross over network cable. This is where I'm confused. Where does this connection go on the dbox2 and how does it connect to my PC?
Any help would be appreciated

I only ever use the cross over cable. You connect it from the back of your Dbox to the lan connection on your PC/laptop. You will need to reconfig your PC so you actually can send the image to your dbox. I always send the image to the tmp folder of my dbox and then turn on my dbox and go to image update and you will see your new image file name there. click it and it does the rest.

The cross-over cable is a network cable that you can you use to transfer data from one machine to another. It goes into the network ports on your PC and DBox2.

I assume it connects to the Ethernet port on the back of my dbox2 to the LAN port on my pc where my broadband is normally plugged in.
I have the image flashing assistant installed and I have also downloaded the 2xneutrino image.
Is that all that is needed?
Note: the only other ports on my PC are a large printer port (pink) and the serial video port (green).

Thats all you need. Just change your IP settings and ping the box and youre away! Best of luck mate

The original problem I am having relates to when I attempted to record a program as a direct file. My dbox2 shut down and refuses to boot. All I am getting is the coding on the LCD panel.
The manual I have read says i will need wither a cross over network cable or a straight network cable.

You need a crossover network cable with crossed wires.
The cable from your cable modem is a 1:1 wired patched cable.
You can use a patch cable only via router with disabled dhcp for flashing.
Inside IFA you can choose if want to use an additional nullmodem cable or not.

Use the irish10 cables.xml and choose NTL mmds for scanning. The around 141 services is the maximum you can get via NTL mmds. There is no space left over to broadcast the full channel range as via true cable.

It seems that I have stumbled across another issue with regards to re flashing my dbox2.
I have all the appropriate cables, Image Flashing Assistant and the image file I need to flash.
When the image flash assistant attempts to flash the image, I get an autoboot abort from terminal. It also says boot net failed.
I have tried all steps to correct my network settings etc. Is there anybody who has had this problem and solved it? If so, please help. Thank You.
My Image software is sportster 1.75

Bootnet failed means something is blocking the network.
Winxp firewall, av soft, wrong network cable,.....

I am running Windows Vista on my PC and I have also ensured that firewalls and anti virus has been disabled.
I have the correct null modem cable and the crossover network cable also.
I've tried several times to no avail.

when Im changing the cables/services and bouquet files do I need to delete anything else? apart from teh existing ones that is?
I cant remember, but I think someone said before to delete the scan.conf?? Is that right? I just want to replace the files and not have to do a new scan.

Thanks for the info .. ya that is what I have already (between tv & radio)
Suppose my next question is .. is there a way to pick and choose the channels I wish and allow some of the other to come through? This is probably not possible due to freq, etc but worth asking :)

You can only get what is on the line. A ntl mmds subscriber get also not more channels.

Upload the cables.xml to share/tuxbox or var/tuxbox/config depending on the image.
In a blade image the cables.xml goes to share/tuxbox. In a sportster to var/tuxbox/config for instance.
After that delete the file scan.conf in var/tuxbox/config and pull the plug.
Replug and go the scan menue, move the highlighted bar to the provider line and select via ok button what you want.

Hi my nokia dbox running sportser 1.08 has started chirping and breaking up a lot over the past week. is there anything someone could suggest to maybe get it a little more stable.
im on N*l in dublin
