there are two sides i am going to judge the consoles on:software and hardware
for me sony wins both of them.
both of the companies behind the consoles are about equally evil. i od hold a bit of a grudge against m$ because of a certain widespread piece of software.
hardware: from what i have read ps3 wins. maybe the graphics synthesizer will not be as powerfull as the xbox360s but hey, 9 real threads versous 3 in the xbox360!
i do realize each spu (the 8 small execution units within cell) will not be as powerfull as one of the procesors on the xbox360. i also do not have experience with game design, so i do not know if the 360 will need to do more taskswitching then the ps3. i am guessing, alike most guesses already stated here, that the xbox will initially have a slight edge over the ps3, because of the rather radically new design.
also i thing that toshiba-sony-ibm are a bit more experienced with this, in adition to planning for it for a longer period of time (i think)
software: when it comes down to games, i prefeer playstation games over basicaly any other modern consoles. it will probably take developers a good while before they get used to cell, but personally i would rather program for cell then xenon (at a low level)
generally i like the style of sony products better, not to mention theps2 controller!
some of you have done talk on the price of the ps3. personally i dont mind a higher prose if you actually get something for it. i am not talking about processing/graphics synthesizing power, i am talking about something cool. something like the bpe (basically what the cell is called, broadband processor architecture) allowing distributed processing sound really cool, if you ask me, but then again you didnt..

Sony are too predictable, they dont have a passion for the industry their being very cheap about it by just doing whats expected, their not going to go down in history for anything new.
The PS3 IS ugly, yer you see the upwards pictures and it looks like a half pipe, but it is an ugly moda! Its big and my guess is that Sony use more cheaper components because it works out better for them then using less expensive components, the slim version will come out in a couple of years i bet.
BlueRay,,, thats costing them alot its likely they will have a 2X BlueRay reader that will have the transfer speed of a 6X DVD drive.
The controller is RUBBISH! inleast the XBOX 360's looks comfy.
The REVs controller is the biznazz! 3d wireless motion detection.
Sony are so typical, they put too much erelavent stuff in their consoles and it throws the whole market out of place and developers dont even want to be creative to make games, its all just graphics now. most games on the PS2 are crap!
Yea i deal with computer graphics, and just like films we will get bored. Remember when Terminator 2 came out, the T1000 was something never seen before.
Now if you see 3d stuff in films you dont appreciate it unless it has a good storyline. The same thing is happening to the game industry!
We need some new stuff! even after the Revolution comes out we still need new stuff like some Virtual Reality/ Virtual gloves or something
not typical!

saying that sony is rather predictable, yes, but i do not find that to be a bad thing, but saying they lack passion... i dont think passion is the right word to use for a company of that size. anyhow, i think it is pretty cool to, to some extent break the typical trend in recent microprocessors, which is this: more hardware that makes task switching faster, more hardware that enables greater instruction paralellism and less actual execution hardware---the hardware that actually does what it is you want the computer to do.
the controller: might be good, i dont know (judging from the pictures)
the shape of the box: yeah, its annoying.. it will be difficult to stack stuff on it. also i would gues that the roundness of it leaves some empty space inside the box---anyone seen a curved motherboard or heatsink?

Hmm, ive seen so much 3d stuff, i know exactly what to expect of the PS3 and 360, Bump mapping, phong shading, fake shadows that look real la la laaaaa! But once eveything looks realistic, where do you go from there./ Its just a beefed up PS2! And why the hell do SONY use so many components its not a computer it should all be on a single board!
Nintendo are using copper heat-sinks, and the CPU are a fraction less powerful so that saves space for less cooling. IGN thinks Apple designed the NIN REV. It looks good they cant say Nintendo are Kiddie toys now with the DS and the REV.
Todays competition sucks!!!! I wish it was just SEGA and NINTENDO again!
All these other bighead companies are annoying, remember the Panasonic 3D0, and the Phillips CDI. Atari would have got somewhere if they didnt LIE about the Jaguar.
Nintendo created the main trend of the home console industry, their the originators, but after them, no one is doing anything original! More power isnt original more power is expected! My PC is dual channel
400MHz,,, has a Bus speed of 6.4GB/s, so i know that in 4 years time i will have a PC with a main memory bus speed of 64GB/s.
Cars will get more efficient. So Sony isnt doing anything New, So really it is not a new console! just another one

i dont play my playstation any more LOL i play my psp or my pc my friend has a xbox i went round there for the first time i played halo 2 online and it was the best 80,000 players online **** me and more then 1,000,000 logged players i am gettin a xbox 360 because of their abroch to online gaming. i dont like sonys abroch beause the said they dont want to force people into online gaming. if u want the specs for both consoles go to www.ign.com and find the article on the both consoles!

I have to admit i like the way microsoft buy developers,,, they've baught a few big developers and they know what their doing in that department!
I bet you if nintendo dont make it, they will buy nintendo and then they will be the strongest gaming company with all the old nintendo fans and new Xbox fans. But that wont happen seems like Nintendo lives off its handhelds!
I remember when Nintendo offered to buy SEGA for 2Bilion just after the Dreamcast!
Look at Nintendo's history theyve been in these positions before, remember the Gamegear was in colour VS the 4 tone GameBoy,,,,,
why did the Gamegear fail??(batteries ran out too fast/crap games)
And the 16bit Atari Lynxx, i use to own one, i had to take it back to the shop coz it kept turning off. So Nintendo is right power wont always win. The NeoGeo pocket,,,
MegaDrive with the 32X VS the SNES.
When the Megadrive 2 came out they had the SUPERSCOPE.
History repeats its self! but now theres too much money involved thats where it goes off point!

I was too lazy to check all the previous posts, but i read someone saying that the 360 didnt have full backwards capability, they were wrong, the hdd gives them full bc. M$ got a settlement with nvidia to do this...

Just get over the fact that the REV will have 4x 2.5GHz G5 processors,
your acting as if its so amazing, coz you still think their using 1.5GHz processors. Its not part of the competition because they havn't announced the specs yet! but im just telling you you wont see much difference in graphics from all 3 consoles!

You know when you think about it $400 for an xbox 360 or $500 for a PS3(not official) is a very good deal considering that gaming PC's can easily reach more than $1500 so whatever the price I'd say its a good deal and as far as games go it just comes down to a question of taste both systems will undoubtedly have fabulous games but the 360 will obviously have more games that appeal to an american crowd say Halo and the other way aroud with the PS3 so my point is numbers and whatever are nice but you should go with what you like. as you can see I'm pretty liberal when it comes to gaming.

With computers i surf the net!!1 i can do computer graphics,,,, i can type out letters and do a million thingz!! computers are not just for playing games!!! so yer paying 1500 for a new PC is worth it! paying 400+ (GBP) for a games console is ONLY for fun! and thats all people want in a games console, they just want to play games! If they put too much media on a games console it just gets stupid! i dont think game consoles need hard drives! I don think we need to play online against eachother but nothing more,, no surfing the net, that just seems stupid!
Watching films/audio CD's is entertainment so i can let that slide.
But strictly i think consols should only be game revolved and nothing more!

4 Processors? The size of the rev doesn't allow for that kind of die space, and especially will not provide enough thermal efficiency to handle more than a single multi-core CPU.

Here are some "leaked specs" that make a little bit more sense, but not quite. Even the author of this article agrees the two processors doesn't sound right either. These are faked, but at least bring that dumbass Solaray kid off his 4-5 CPU BS.
The size and design of the revolution WILL NOT support two separate CPUs. These specs are fake too.
Dual-core is possible, but it's thermally impossible from a computer engineering standpoint to have separate CPUs on a motherboard that size.

The 360's duel core will be the size of the revolution so theres no way the revolution can have more than one so yeah i gotta agree with reasons but damn man calm down a bit mabye solaray was a little off with the "5 processors" but it don't think anyone needs to put down anyone here. but we all should back all our claims with some credible sources just to not throw off anyone and stay straight. Right?

I never said 5 processors why does eveyonekeep saying that ,,, i said 4 (FOUR) G5 processors!!!!! G5 (you know PowerPC processors).
And i said their 2.5 GHz, so yer it will be less powerful then the XBOX 360 and it wont require as much cooling,,, ive been saying that for alongtime now! But i siad the graphics engine will be better then the 360's! Its kind of obvious since the REV is coming out like 5 months after the 360.
4x 2.5GHz vs 3x3.2GHz,,, it dont work the way your thinking,,,please dont add the GHz up, i see some people think the Xbox is 9.6GHz!!! no no no no no!!!!! Its all about bus speed!

Ok lets talk REAL!!!
The REV, PS3 and 360 all have (ONE SINGLE CENTRAL UNIT PROCESSOR) only!!! Hey ive just learnt a few new things about the systems!!
The XBOX processor is 3.2GHz 3 cores L1 384KB L2 1MB
The PS3 processor is 3.2GHz 1 cores L1 ?(7 DSP) L2 512KB
The REV processor is 2.5GHz 4 cores L1 512KB L2 512KB
XBOX = 21.6GB/s bus speed!
PS3 = (i work it out to be) 17 GB/s
REV = (i work it out to be) 22.5 GB/s
ALL cores are in ONE single processor,,, this is just a meathod IBM uses to triple/ quadruple the bus speed!
Its hard to compare now! they all work differnetly, its one of those situations where they all have advantages over each other!!!
All i can say is that SONY are tricksters, Dont take no notice of the
2TFLOPS performance, because it wont reach a third of that performance in most games!
I take it back,, the Xbox 360's CPU seems more powerful then the PS3's
The NREV is not too far off from the 360!!!
Some one tell me if my mathis is wrong but thats what i work it out to be!

Hmm,
I think Nintendo's strongest games are Metroid and Zelda, final fantisy is coming out on the REV. But Metroid is a SICK game its not like HALO, Infact Halo stole a few things from metroid (so they say).it has its own mood, its like being in an Aliens film (not because the main character is a woman) but it has alot of creative visuals in it.
