The point is that you can see if you are banned before installing the newest update that will disable your hard drive features.

If you don't have a hard drive or memory cards present, how could the update even download? On the newer consoles that have memory built in, it could be possible, though.

But what if the flags that block hard drive installs and trigger the gamertag/save corruption thing were in NXE all along? This is the first post-NXE ban wave, so it's a possibility. If you do a connection test and it says you're banned, that could trigger those flags. I can't believe that with all the people posting on forums like this one, nobody can confirm the answers to any of these questions! lol.

Well even on the new consoles with memory it should ask before installing the update no?

Played CODMW2 once last weekend w/o HDD, Madden 10, and Borderlands

Ive signed in every night to check to see if i get the dredded ban massage. I've even left it on for a few hours while doing some work. Like people have said we know the risks involved.

I don't understand this logging into live every night, leaving it for a few hours to see if they'll ban you. Are you trying to get banned?
Wait it out till we have some idea what is causing so many people too be caught.

I just got banned now, it's been a year and half and I've checked every game with abgx (properly I must add) and never played before a release date.

Knew the day would come, no big deal I took the risk.

Anyway I just put IX 1.6 on it last night.

ah, i've unfortuantly met the ban hammer today as well, and i'd like to share what i've done to hopefully help people figure out what's going on(i read the first 8 pages before saying screw it and jumped to the last page)

anywho what i've done:
-several months ago i brought an 120gb DIY hdd drive off ebay to install into my 360, so this may be the reason as to why i was banned

-secondly in the process of modding my 360, i had to purchase a new cd drive(same model as my original drive though, a benq)

-i brought a korean drive and only backup games i have ripped myself, and always verify through abgx(level 3 check)

-i only began doing this not 3 weeks ago when i installed 1.6ixtreme fw

-their are three games i have actually backed up: Cod4, Cod: WaW, and Halo 3 multiplayer disk, all were fully verified by abgx

-i have played all 3 in my 360, mostly WaW with my friends over live

-the last time i was on live was November 6th, at a lan party, where i used my backup of cod4(so one of my friends could use my official copy)

any other information i'd be happy to give, their appears to be a common WaW factor for bans in the first 8 pages that i read, and i guarantee 100000% percent that i have not played a backup i did not rip myself with a korean drive, so if on the off chance i was banned for the harddrive, than that really really sucks

You shouldn't use level 3 with your own backups. Even if the stealth check passes, it will still use the files in the database if verification fails, so in all cases, your backups are no better than the backups of a person who downloaded all of their games.

You should use level 2 with your own rips. Then it will only autofix them if the stealth check is uncertain or fails and verification fails. If the stealth check passes and verification fails, that's OK. It's only if you're downloading games that you need to use level 3, because you can't rely on the stealth check alone as you don't know the source of the rip. Obviously if you're ripping your own game, you do know the source of the rip.

the original tutorial i followed said to use level 3 regardless, so i didn't see much reason to not use it, also the database should have verified stealth files anyway otherwise it'd be pointless to have a verified database imo

The original tutorial you read is wrong. The default settings of abgx360 are designed for those that rip their own games. If everyone had to change autofix to level 3, then level 3 would be the default setting. You only need to change it if you're downloading games.

By using level 3 you are saying that you trust the stealth info uploaded to the database by someone you've never met over the stealth info you have just ripped from your own originals. You have absolutely no reason to do that as long as you know how to rip games properly. If you take two copies of the same original and rip them, they might contain different stealth info. The DMIs might be different - that's a common one. Personal rips only need to pass the stealth check, not verification. If a personal rip fails the stealth check it's because you didn't rip it properly and then abgx360 will autofix it, but even then, it would still be safer to re-rip the game properly than use the stealth files from the abgx360 database.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was uploaded to the database before the game was even out, so a lot of people verified it and played it. A few days later, it disappeared from the database only to be replaced with a different version. People that autofixed the game the first time then found that their game no longer verified as abgx360 was saying it needed to be autofixed again. UP, Red Faction: Guerilla and UFC Undisputed all had corrupt info in the database for a few days, so games were being autofixed with bad data. That was discovered and fixed and they posted on their site about it. This shows you that you should never trust someone else's rips over your own personal rips.

- My friend and I were banned on 11/4/09 and 11/5/09
- hitachi 79fl and his was one of the v47's both using iX v1.51
- Used 2.4x verbatim and burned @ 2x (no exceptions there)
- throughly checked every game with agbx360
- I had used borderlands he hadn't so don't think that game mattered...
-- opinion -- I really think microsoft really does bans similiar to that of some other companies, ex. directv bans illegal cards. It's 1 or 2 times a year, and for only a given amount of time when each heppens, because one would have to think taking these actions, although making them money on new consoles, have to incur high costs to do these bans.

- Result - for me just bought the xbox arcade at walmart at reg price, but came with $100 in store gift card, sweet. So chalk up that as a $100 oops, but worth it in my view got a new jasper chipset that hopfully won't red light like my system did twice. Okay sorry for writing a novel, back to xbox I go.

hey guys, as I posted yesterday that my box was banned. Today I got my nephews box which has the same Beng ixtreme 1.6 firmware and was not ban yeah. The box only has two silver accounts in it, I test it for few hours now and still alive and kicking. called up a friend whose also has only silver account and he's not banned either. Does this mean that M$ only banned console with gold membership? So if this is true, we are basically paying M$ to ban our box.
Oh yes, both boxes was connected to live through Ethernet.

ah, i see, thank you for that answer, perhaps i was banned due to an incorrect stealth patch, i'll go back through my games and re-check them to make sure they still pass stealth verification, and set abgx back to level 2
