I got banned today, Lite-On, iXtreme 1.51 and I have played no games early. Hoping I could get unbanned I called XBOX Support in rage. After talked with a service rep. for 30 minutes I demanded to talk to a high power, and she turned me over to her supervisor.
This is what I finally got out of her. After asking why I got banned over and over and over again, she dropped the words I wanted to hear. I told her the last thing I did was signed up for the preview and got accepted. She then said these exact words, I AM MAKING NONE OF THIS UP.
"Yes, I understand the last thing you did was update your XBOX. Our new update has new ways of detecting if a console has broken the Terms of Use, and the Support Team has found that your console has broken more than one term. I am sorry, but I cannot provide you with the exact reason your console was banned."
So maybe, the new update has ways of reading the Firmware on your DVD drive and giving your console a Red Flag. The reason I posted this is, maybe it would be safer to update your 360 with original firmware, then flash it. But if the the update constantly reads your DVD drive firmware, a new iXtreme might be needed.

Or she was making it up.
I DEMAND PROOF
*edit*
Ok well that just looked like trolling on my behalf..
The woman could have easily just made that up off of the top of her head.

Interesting information, but I don't see what it proves. It doesn't really get us any further than speculation alone. The "new methods" could mean anything, if it is even true, as Andmill says.

Sounds believable. I say just bite the bullet and wait till some new ixtreme firmware comes out with better stealth protection, get a new 360 and be over-zealous when it comes to new dashboard updates.
Meh, all I'm pissed off about having my 360 banned is now having to drone through the wastes of Pandora without my 3 trusty companions in Borderlands. :(
Modern Warfare 2 on PC > Modern Warfare 2 on XBOX :)

Not necessarily. Wasn't there another dashboard update a few days ago? The one that supposedly added WPA2 support for the wireless adapter? It could have been in that. I don't think we can draw any solid conclusions, but it's another possibility.
Is there any way for the people in the know to dump the dashboard and examine the code? If something dodgy is in there, someone would be able to spot it.

lol.
It would be in their interest to put out a rumour like this, because it would certainly put some people off from flashing their drives, even if it's completely untrue.

I have 2 xbox's, one with a BenQ 1.51 and one with a Hitachi 1.51. The Hitachi is my main 360 and is on the preview, the BenQ isn't. the Benq got banned yesterday but my Hitachi is fine. the only thing i can think of is that the Hitachi just plays all wave 4 games with a problem, but the other (and i did test it with Lips last 2 weeks ago, and wish i hadn't) doesn't work.
i think the xbox has reported the BenQ as failing to read the wave 4 game, therefore it must have custom firmware, this also has happened to my friend on the same day. he tried to play tekken 6 and got the XBOX 360 DVD screen about 2 weeks ago.
Anybody else got a Hitachi 1.51 that's still working?, or had one banned?

I feel bad for the people saying they got banned and they never play early, make sure their games are legit, etc. My cousin still has iX 1.50, and he patches wave 3 and wave 4 games, plays games early, and he plays on Live. He isn't banned, and it certainly seems like he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to everyone who does it right.

I feel you on that, Aiur, but I think many of the people who think they are doing everything perfectly really are not. I am sure there are some unlucky ones out there, but, by and large, I do not think it is as cut-and-dried and many people say.
For instance, somebody posted the other day about how they ALWAYS verify EVERY game with ABGX before playing.... including the pre-release games he plays. So, yeah....
Makes me wonder how many people run their games through ABGX on level 2 autofix and then swear that they did everything perfectly.

The "reason" is not the new dash, for obvious reasons. Out of those who were banned, 99.5% are not in the dash preview.
You were told what you needed to hear in order to drop the subject. That lady was just a phone jockey. She's a supervisor... all that means is she's a supervisor of the phone jockeys. They still have no knowledge of how the banning process works.
The banning process is handled by MS. You don't think MS would hand over knowledge in any way, shape, or form to some third-party call center.

Please don't tell me you believe what a 'support supervisor' says? You do know that pretty much everything is read of a sheet?
They do not code the Xbox. How the hell are they going to know what caused your console to be banned.

I haven't played in a month, tried last night, saw I was banned.
Bummer being that it's a week away from COD:MWF2 and definitely a game I would buy either way.
I was running iextreme 1.4 for a while and upgraded to 1.6 two or three months ago.
I used to kreon rip everything, but I've used discs from other methods that passed ABGX as well.
If I were to guess, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a method of detecting stuff, and the system waited till Q4 to ban. Obvious reasons... Xmas, COD releases, etc.
oh well... gg MS, time to go buy another xbox.

Dont buy another 360 thats what the ywant you to do. thats why they ban people in novemeber every year so they can get a boost in hardware sales numbers. Just find someone that doesnt play online at all and see if they wil trade 360 with you. as long as you arent giving them a Non HDMI for one that has HDMI or giving them a refurb vs a never repaired unit then they should be fine with it.
Hell my HDMI got banned but i dont use HDMI so i swapped a friend for his nonHDMI so he gets an upgrade and i get to stay online.
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

I'm not squeaky clean myself, but I try to avoid the biggest red flag of all (next to playing patched games online), and that is of course playing games early. If a game has a retail leak, then I'll play that game at most 3 days early. I've held off on Forza 3 and now MW2 because there is no evidence of a retail leak, just a leak online, and that to me says Microsoft is putting these torrents out there to catch people desperate enough to play the games early.
