True, he may not be telling the truth.

However, I never once played a wave 4 game and I got banned, so who knows?

The one questionable rip I played was Street Fighter 4.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

I got home from work today to find myself officially banned.

I have just recently modded my own xbox and made my own backups, making sure the games passed stealth test. I never play games before the release date.

Having read the previous post I would like to say that I tried to run Lips No. 1s without the boot disc. This resulted in the error screen. As Lips was a wave 4 I wondered whether Xbox had a way of knowing that I had made this mistake?! I got Lips working via the boot disc but I know I tried around 3 times before.

Lips was the only game that didn't have complete green on Abgx360. I was under the impression this was because it didn't recognise the wave 4 video but it could still stealth it. How wrong I may have been.

Anyway, can't really complain after a couple of hundred £s worth of games. Better start sourcing a new Xbox.

Guys like this are the single best source of info about banning that there is.

Perhaps MS is actually checking that 'DVD disconnected' flag after all, finally.

Did you power your 360's drive via your console itself or a connect kit when you flashed, jf1981?

If we can find somebody who flashed using a connect kit and never played an online game, there goes that theory.

the console itself. I had a friend do it for me.

Dude I'm not kidding around I've never played any backups. I even called M$ to tell them this, and I was told that my system was detected. I would not lie about something this small.

Yes, everyone that's been banned! lol. Unfortunately, this is one of the new side effects of a ban.

Hiya All! ^o^ I also just got home from work to find that my console had also been banned... :-( Oh wellz, it's the risk you run when you knowingly play pirated games on your xbox 360... lol

Anywho, for those of you who would like to know, I never play my backup games whilst I'm signed into xbox live and I never play backups on xbox live either. I am guilty of playing MW2 early, but not on that account and not whilst I was signed into live and that account hasn't been on live since. I have a Hitachi 46 drive with ixtreme 1.51, btw.

I was proper gutted because I came home with my special ed of Dragon age looking forward to downloading my exclusive content to find my console had been banned... :( I tried to transfer my tag to my spare console (the original one I purchased) with my mem unit, but it doesn't even show up on the console, but it shows in memory manager... -_-' I hope I'm able to recover my tag from live, else I'm gonna cry... :'(

I know this is my first post, but I've always watched these forums. I just hope I can help contribute to discussions more in the future! ^o^

The xbox has it's own ways of catching bad returns and reporting ToS violations even without being connected to XBL.... but this is something else...

time to buy a new xbox. from what I see, Microsoft has made a few hundred console sales just off of the people that use this forum...

I think Microsoft owns the "I WIN!" button.

Please, for the love of KONRAD ZUSE just let Windows XP die.

Never in all my days have i seen so much speculation and no definitive answers. Thats kinda sad cuz im sure that we can figure this out using true scientific method.
The one thing i believe that i can contribute to the cause is a wierd little thing i noticed that i havent seen anybody else talk about.

i travel a bit & even though i may take 1 of my 360s with me i usually just pop my harddrive into a friends machine when i stay at thier houses and they arent home so i dont have to go through some big ole disconnect-reconnect procedure. So i am at said friends house last week just as i had saw on the forums that a new ban wave hit. When i wanted to play i put my HDD in his system & i was prompted to perform an update which i declined cuz the console aint mine. The xbox prompted me at initial startup, and then twice while the game was loading up going through the opening sequences of displaying Too Human's developer logos an such. So due to my declining i was signed out of LIVE but still logged in to my profile. This happened each time i turned the console on to play that game over the next several days. In between my play my buddy had switched out HDDs to his a few times when he played. one day i asked him if he wanted to do or had done the update already and he said yes that he did it right away. ( he plays almost exclusively on live and his console is not modded in any way) That means to me that these updates are storing &/or executing from the HDD ( maybe that would also explain why i only have 12GB of space left on a practically empty HDD when it should be at least close to the advertised 20GB) After i asked him this i booted his machine up with his HDD attached & it did not prompt for an update. Then i tried it again with my HDD & was once again prompted to download an update. I of course refused again. same thing happened again... i got disconnected from Live but still logged into my profile. Note: Disconnected does not mean banned. So i wonder if we could figure this out by using the smallest official mem-card M$ sells along with a release date console or 2 and compare what gets put on that during a current update versus an old HDD & a Newer one. Variables are the key(s)here

so i stewed over this a bit & read up on the forums concerning the modding / Banhammer waves. I was also thinking of as many variables as i could that might contribute to the backdoors M$ has to the console and one thing popped up in my mind that just might be a doorway of understanding to figuring out M$ methods. This thing i speak of is related to something else i also do that is a little different.

Often i will also recover my profile/ gamertag to my friends consoles/HDDs so we can both play on live on one TV and get acheivement points for our play. I have done this to at least 5 of my friends consoles like 30 times. What i noticed once in constantly recovering my gamertag to these different consoles and then back to mine is how consistently everything moved smoothly including my Gamerscore points. Everytime but once that is. I had fixed & modded an older 360 about 7 months ago. I played a retail official used copy of Perfect Dark Zero for the first time ever on my newly fixed/modded 360. It also had its own 20GB HDD. I recovered my gamertag & During play i was logged into my profile and connected to LIVE and scored a bunch of Acheivent points in that game. Once i beat the game however i recovered my gamertag again to my newer 360s HDD so i could have all my points on HDD since only PDZ was showin up on the older one. I thought that it would work. Well it didnt. PDZ's points had disappeared on the HDD i played with but still had the gamesaves and BOTH HDDs showed that i had played the game. WTF! i said and i tried the recovery thing like 3 times before i said to hell with it.

Im not exactly sure what all this means but if someone who is adept at handling code could figure out these two things and why they occured then i bet we could seriously get thisball rolling in the right direction towards my eventual goal of a free altenative service to live where we can all still hook up and play.

I also would just like to say to all the people getting banned for playing a game before its release date that before u do this maybe u should completely disconnect your' 360's from power and wallsocket to reset the internal clock so M$ cannot find out when u play it. Maybe if you guys set the clock/date to after the official release date and pulled out your ethernet cords then that might keep u guys from getting banned for this and u could still get away with it. Just a seemingly logical thought.

Peace out bean sprouts

We already know that dashboard updates are stored on the hard drive. If you get into a closed beta for a new dashboard update, MS warn you not to connect your hard drive to another console because it will update it, and as that console's serial number isn't in the beta, it won't be able to connect to Live until the official release of the dashboard. I'm in the current beta for the Facebook, Last.fm, Twitter etc. dashboard that comes out on November 17th, so if I connect my hard drive to your console, it would prompt you to update to that version of the dashboard.

A 20 GB 360 hard drive only has 13 GB of usable space on it. Some of the space is reserved for system use (caching etc.)

I would assume so because when NXE was released, 128 MB of space was required, which is why MS gave away free memory cards and sold discounted hard drives at the time. If you only had a memory card when NXE was released (a big enough one to allow you to update) and still don't own a hard drive, I'd bet that if you plugged that memory card into a different console that didn't have the latest dashboard on it, you would be prompted to update. I've not tried it, so I can't confirm that that's true, but it's definitely the case with hard drives. You can even update via a USB stick or burned CD/DVD. That's what I did when NXE was leaked. I downloaded the files, put them on a USB stick, attached it to my console, and it prompted me to update.

then thier detection scheme has to originate in some form on the HDD. Probably not as a whole but as in a back door patch for remote access. if thats the case then what is keeping someone from writing some small code of their own to spoof M$ detection scheme on the same HDD...possibly even blocking it with a fake "all clear signal"

So people here who have been banned in the UK in the past few days, please confirm what Drives and Firmware you have.

There may be a pattern, ie dodgy Benq 1.61 as opposed to Samsung for example.

There is no pattern. We've been through this with each ban wave. There is absolutely no reason to clog up this thread with useless info. A simple search through this forum and other 360 forums will give you all the info you're asking for. This happens every time there's a ban wave. A couple dozen newcomers will join (not pointing fingers at you specifically), they'll all start new threads or hijack others, asking the same exact question, clogging up the forums, then we'll never hear from them again.

Don't take offence, I'm just saying that if you start that here in this thread the only outcome will be that this thread will be closed. There's already a "banned" thread full of that info.

Not to start a conspiracy theory or anything but lets look at this and state some facts...

There was a ban wave in 2007 around this time...not sure what the main blockbusters were around this time of the year (World at war, assassins creed, mass effect i think)

http://www.techspot.com/news/27938-micro...60-modders.html

Gears of War 2 leaked early in 2008 and then boom a ban wave. The actual release date was Nov 7th I believe. (This is the ban that got me)

Now here we are November again...another ban wave. So what can we take from this?

Obviously the fall updates is to do more than update our dashboards. But from a business standpoint it make sense to do this in November. What is the busiest shopping day of the year??? The day after thanksgiving! And honestly How many of us rushed out to get a new box in 2007 or 2008 to play those holiday blockbusters? So here we are 2009 and we have several blockbusters coming out. MW2, AC2, L4D2, Forza 3...all of this is M$ way to milk money out of us (lost money for games we pirated) I would not surprise me if they have a data base intact with linking ip address, gamertags and even consoles together to detect us.

To add to the stupidity, how many of us are in forums like afterdawn, xbox iso...etc, with our gamertag.net signature/xbox profile name boasting about our thievery? We have to get smarter!!! Has anyone thought that maybe M$ has know all along that we have copied games and have strategically chosen when to ban us???

same here...I've even been guilty of it myself. I havent been banned but I don't play online either. I'm sure after a few weeks we will all be in the clear but of course how many Xboxes will have been sold. Keep an eye on the xbox 360 console sales this qtr and lets see how much they have increase

does anyone think the ban waves happen during this time could be because of the games that come out at this time. these games which could bring millions more in revenue ,plus since xmas is round corner so games sales would be higher than anytime of the year.

codmw2, battlefield, gta 4, forza, band hero, fifa among other games. these games combined with the fact that xmas is round the corner are gonna bring high amount of sales. so maybe ms dont want their sales figures effected so they started the banning process this time of year. just a hunce tho.
