I did have one question, I'd like to run the old Nintendo games, and things like that. How would I go about doing that with this softmod? My guess is i'd need an emulator, and then the game files and things like that.
Any suggestions or links or any help you guys could give me to assist me in this?
Once again, thank you for this guide. It was of a great assistance.
Take a look in the Ultimate Sticky Thread.

Hi Larrylje,
Just to say I don't understand why so many peoples have problems softmodding their WII with the guide you maid.
If they follow the steps and take their time to do it!!!!!
Generally, everything will works fine.

Do i have to reinstall everything and if i do, do i do it again with the guide or is there something else i have to do.

I have no idea what you did. Maybe someone updated the system. Try running through the guide again starting at Downgrade IOS15.

hi larry
firstly i want to say how thankful i am that you have put together this GREAT walkthrough.
i have found modding my wii a confusing process until i found this guide. it was simple and accurate and so far i have had no problems.
however i have a couple of questions.
1/ is the DOP-IOS MOD part vital? i noticed that you said my wii was ready to play backed up games before that part.
if not, what exactly is it for?
2/once ive finished do i have to leave the SD in the wii to play my backed up games?
thank you very much

I wish people would stop asking if DOP-IOS is important and needs to be done. If it was something I thought you didn't have to do it would be in the Extra Steps section. It only takes a few extra minutes to run through the DOP-IOS section so why does it matter? Just do the DOP-IOS section.
This question has been asked and answered a few times and I hope this is the last time it is asked. But I know more then likely it won't be.

Hi,
I have a new wii 4,2j and wanted to play backup disks and hence ended up following your guide.
And after all those time consuming steps when it came to installation of NeoGamma, you had written that for newer Wiis the new drive that not play backup disc (DVD READ ERROR 1101).
Then what was the idea of writing all the stuff if finally it didnt had to play. You simply said use USB loader.
Requesting you to add these warning points before starting the guide itself, so that most of us newbies do not waste our time, if it cant be done.

You should have read the guide completely before doing the softmod. As well if you have a new drive that can't play backup disc then you can use a USB Loader. So how is this waisting your time?
You really should do research before starting the softmod so your better prepared. As for putting a warning at the beginning of the guide. The warning in the NeoGamma section is sufficient enough. It isn't my fault your to lazy to read the complete guide before performing it.

Hi larry!
I have question. I modded my wii many months ago all was fine until my PC crashed&burned & I had to reinstall everything from the ground up. Now since I have done this every wii I mod for my mates(they are all old 3.x updated through nintendo,so none of them have the new drives)I get error 1048 or 1051 & they wont play the new back-ups I burn, but they play all the ones before my system died. Now I`m guessing you`re gonna say I`m burning it wrong or something like that, or load throuigh usb(which is fine for me cos I am now. but not for them!)
But if that is the case what would you suggest is the problem, I havnt changed any settings in imgburn or the type of media I use

Larry, First off I want to say thanks for such a great guide!
I have one question though, maybe you know the answer.
Why are the following IOS not in your list?
IOS 14 - (no description).
IOS 22 - (no description).
IOS 28 - (no description).
IOS 34 - (no description).
IOS 36 - Used by Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Can be ES_Identify Patched.
IOS 57 - Unknown yet.
IOS 61 - Used by Shop Channel 4.x.
Because the above IOS was not listed in your list, I did NOT Press "A" to install the latest versions of those IOS. But I am wondering why when I press to the "right" button on the D-Pad that I see the above IOS and they all have an option to press "A" to install te latest version.
Can you provide an answer, I am curios if it was missed on your behalf or if these were made available after you made the guide.
Thanks for the great guide!
Keith
DOP-IOS MOD:
DO NOT DOWNGRADE ANY IOS OR FIRMWARE. INSTALL & PATCH THE LATEST IOS REVISION AVAILABLE. DOWNGRADING TO A LOWER REVISION OR FIRMWARE MAY BRICK YOUR SYSTEM! (IT IS SAFE TO DOWNGRADE IOS15 AT THE START OF THE GUIDE)
IOS9 - Used by launch titles (Zelda).
IOS12 - (no description).
IOS13 - (no description).
IOS15 - (no description).
IOS17 - (no description).
IOS21 - Used by old 3rd party titles.
IOS31 - (no description).
IOS33 - (no description).
IOS35 - Used by Super Mario Galaxy.
IOS37 - Used mostly by music games.
IOS38 - Used by some modern titles.
IOS53 - Used by some modern titles and channels.
IOS55 - Used by some modern titles and channels.
IOS56 - Used by Wii Speak.
IOS70 - Used by System menu 4.2
Load DOP-IOS MOD (via Homebrew Channel).
Press A to continue
Which ISO would you like to use to install other IOSs?
Choose IOS249
Press A to continue
Go to IOSs in the list and press A
Go to IOS9 (use D-Pad left & right).
Press A to install latest version.
Press A at Are you sure you want to install IOS9 vXXXX.
Press A at Apply Sig Hash Check patch to IOS9.
Let it do its work (Be patient it may seem that the Wii system has froze but do not turn off or reset the system).
After it has finished press any button to continue.
You should now go back to the DOP-IOS main screen. Now use the d-pad (left & right) to go to the next IOS I have listed above. Follow the above directions to install and patch the newest version of that IOS.
After you have done the last IOS in the above list (IOS70) and you go to the Main Screen press HOME button to exit DOP-IOS MOD.
For more information on DOP-IOS MOD please go HERE.

Those IOS are not used by games. IOS36 is already patched from doing the Thrucha Bug Restorer.

it's easier to say to get everything out first, since a good amount don't know what model wii they have. so if it doesn't work, use the alternative. and in bright red, there is the alternative.
and that is the reason why we say READ THE GUIDE FIRST. if you were reading it while doing the softmod, then you will get pissed off for no reason.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

Yes it can be softmoded. But you will probably have to use a USB loader to play backup games. Newer Systems have the new drive that can not play backup disc.

The guide says you will get errors. If they are not deleting then you need to redo the DOWNGRADE IOS15, PATCH IOS36 and RESTORE IOS15 section again.

I redone the downgrade/path/restore and still get this message when I hit A to delete
Title id: 0000001-000000de (IOS222)
Error! ISFS_Open (ret = -106))
Are you sure you want to uninstall this title? (A = YES B = NO)
- Deleting ticket file /ticket/00000001/000000de.tlk...
Ticket delete failed (No ticket?) -102
- Deleting title file /title/00000001/000000de...
Error! ISFS_Delete(ret= -102)
Press any key...

If it deleted the IOS then don't worry about the error messages.
If it didn't delete them then your not Patching IOS36 properly.
This also could be a SD card issue.
Try using a different SD card. Then redo the DOWNGRADE IOS15, PATCH IOS36 and RESTORE IOS15 section again (make sure there is no errors when doing this step).
