Press any key...
If it deleted the IOS then don't worry about the error messages.
If it didn't delete them then your not Patching IOS36 properly.
This also could be a SD card issue.
Try using a different SD card. Then redo the DOWNGRADE IOS15, PATCH IOS36 and RESTORE IOS15 section again (make sure there is no errors when doing this step).
I used a different guide and everything's Aces. Thanks for the help

Hi Larry,
This is a bit off topic, but you might be able to provide some insite for me.
1) Can you provide some directions on how to install virtual console and/or wii ware wads. I read on the internet that you need to have "preloader" installed and certain wads under IOS could be dangerous to run and may brick your wii. Any tips on how to install virtual console and/or wii ware wads will be appreciated. By the way, I already have the Wad Manager 1.5, so that is my starting point. Do i just download wads and place them in that folder for Waf Manager to read and then install them that way? Anything I need to be careful of?
2) I have done a soft mod using your guide, and now when I load the "Home Brew Browser" from the HBC, the Home Brew Browser will hang/freeze while loading. I can post a pic of the error message if you like. I think it said something about my USB external hard drive could not be mounted. I am not sure what that means. I do have a 500GB external hard drive for my back up wii games. Any idea how to resolve this?
Thanks, Keith

larrylje thank you very much for this guide. I have been searching internet for two weeks to learn wii hacking and your guide help me a lot. I have a new 4.2u wii system, i followed the steps and everything run perfectly. After these steps i also loaded the priiloaderv03 (followed from another guide) and confusbloader from your guide.
In my wii at the DOP-IOS Mode section it runs IOS60 by default. Everytime i changed to it IOS 249 and did the steps of your guide. But during the IOS55 latest version installation i may not be changed (i am not sure) the IOS60 to IOS249. Is this a serios error ? So i reinstalled it with ios249 and continued to installation of other ios. If i did not changed the IOS60 to IOS 249 does it cause serious error?
For now everything runs perfectly accept that when i connect samsung 2.5" 320gb usb hdd and choose the usbconfig channel it freezes. But when i connect 2gb kingston it runs.
Thank you for your effort and time...

Follow the USB Loader section of the guide. I don't use USB loader GX in this guide so please refrain from asking it in this softmod. We don't need to get others confused. The USB loader guide uses CFG USB Loader and following it let you load it without SD card.

If the 2gb kingston is running then the softmod is installed properly. The issue is with the samsung 2.5" 320gb usb hdd. Not much I can do about that is it is a incompatible drive.

Thanks for your answer. You are right, samsung 2.5" 320 is not a compatible device. At the device compatibility list "Samsung S2 Portable 250 and 500GB" are stated as "doesnt work". We can say that 320 is also not compatible.

The guide says what to do if you have no Gamecube Controler. READ THE GUIDE!
I read the guide many times up to now, I even printed it out and studied, I know where is written to use power and reset buttons to navigate in menu, but if it doesn't work, what to do? Should I use only the original (or compatible) Gamecube Controller? I was interested only if the people that performed the hack used or not this specific controller.
Thank you, anyway, for the guide you made!
I have no GC controller and was able to navigate using power and reset - at the 2nd attempt though, first time they did nothing, I had to restart the process and it worked 2nd time round.
Also be carefeul to press the buttons only once at a time, as the commands "stack up" as it were. Meaning if you press power twice it will select the highlighted item -then on the next page select the highlighted item right away.
Hi! First of all, this is my first post and a BIG THANK YOU goes to the guide Writer :-)
This said, I'm also worried because I have no Gamecube controller and a Wii purchased 2 days ago.. so must be latest version.
In case the power/reset buttons should not operate, is there a way to put back the Wii to virgin?
And you said that at second attempt the power/reset buttons worked, what do you mean by second attempt? You started from step 1 or?
Many thanks
Toni

There is no reason to double check.
The guide clearly says "THIS GUIDE WILL WORK ON ANY REGION/SERIAL SYSTEM WITH 4.2 - EXCEPT KOREAN!".
All your doing is adding pointless post to the other 100's of other pointless post in this thread.

Hey Larry Quick question.
I've followed the guide to the T and ive gotten to the Cios222 installer step.
I get the Network initializing error that others seem to have a peoblem with as well.
I also followed the alternative method by downloading the wads on my PC and putting them in the correct location in the 0000001 folder and placing that in the root of my sd.
When I try to run the CIOS222 installer it always tries to download the wads through the network even though that freezes every time.
Is there any way to force the Cios222 installer to read the wads off of the card?

Yeah strangle the Wii and shake it till it installs Hermes.
If the alternative isn't working then your not doing something right. If you claim your doing it right then I don't have any other suggestions. One or the other should work.

Followed the guide. No error messages. Everything installed correctly. Tried the first back up. Game ran fine. Second backup gave me #001 error message. Now with every backup, including the first one, Neogamma "times out".
Any suggestions???
I have a cheesy modchip...some FC chip, it can't update.
In searching, I came across some folks mentioning to remove the modchip if you plan on using the softmod and this should help with the #001 error message, but I don't know why Neogamma "Timed Out" on every disc.
Hi Larry. Any suggestions.
Additional note. The issue above is the same problem with 2 wii consoles. Yes, they both have the crappy FC chip that I mentioned. These consoles were modded 2 or 3 years ago with this chip.
I was looking to get feedback before I went in and pulled the chip out.
All I can suggest is update your modchip that fixes #001 error or take it out.
As for neoGamma make sure your choosing disc backup not USB loading. Other then that it could be the modchip causing the issues.
Thanks Larry. Took the modchip out of both Wii consoles and everything went smoothly.

iso35:-it says bad hash at the end and not updated when checked
iso37:- same as above
iso53:- same as above
iso55:- temp dir failed
can anyone tell me what to do to sort this or can i just leave these out. if i do not do the hash check bit and just install the iso will it be bad for the wii console. every other iso is updated to the latest version. thanks.......................sudeki300

Hey!
I have a wiikey v1 on a ntsc wii installed and recently made the jump to 4.2. Having about 50% Pal discs, I unfortunately found out that I had lost half of my backup collection.
I did a lot of searching on the web before finding this guide. There is a lot of stuff out there that is very confusing. However this guide was really easy to follow even for someone with little experience such as myself. It is great to find a detailed guide that really walks you through EVERY step and button push. I had a few minor glitches, but because the guide was so detailed I was able to get through it all in a couple of hours. I've just tested a few games and everything is working great. Plus I was able to add the homebrew channel which I didn't have before.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. If like me, you have a morbid fear of bricking your wii and no real tech understanding but are hesitating to use this guide, I hope this helps alleviate your fears.

Okay, please don't flame me for being a noob. I've modded several xbox's before but softmodding wii's is completely different it seems.
I can however follow directions like any other idiot. I just have a few questions:
1.My system has 4.2U on it. From what I've read from 1 guy's post is that this entire guide will work on it. Correct?
2.I did the HBC installation part but stopped after backing up my NAND because I was fearful of bricking my machine. Do I just follow the entire guide from start to finish, because some of the steps seem redundant if you don't know what you are doing (such as downgrading IOS15 and then restoring it 1 step later).
3.I did backup my NAND, but was not able to do the Boot2 install. I had to do the Bootmii as IOS. If I DO brick my wii, is there a way to restore the NAND with Bootmii as IOS?
Sorry for the noob questions. I had a lot more free time when I modded xbox and always soldered the chips on myself to save the hassle of softmodding.
