It's been a while since I played Twin Snakes but I'm pretty sure all you do is get to the end of the first disc, save, put in second disc and load from save file.

Hi, Thank you for the instructions.. it worked perfectly. games now arun flawlessly.
all i need to know is: is wad manager installed during this process as i would like to install some and don't know what IOS i should be choosing when booting wad manager? I thought it would be a program loaded in the channel that I could loads wads from. can I just load wads by putting them straight to the sd card or do i really need to run boot wad manager everytime?

First and foremost, I want to thank you guys for the helpful posts and tutorials. I've already followed this guide and now have a softmodded Wii and have been using my Wii for pretty much the first time since about February 2007.
Anyway, now to the question. I have my backup of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for GameCube since the original discs are starting to get all scratched up. I followed this guide (which was really easy by the way) and added GameCube support to the backup channel, but as I'm sure you guys know, MGS is a 2-disc game. I'm wondering what the best way is to handle switching discs. Assuming I burn each iso to a separate disc, how do I go about switching them when I'm asked to? Can I just go back to the home screen, insert disc 2 and boot like normal?
Thanks in advance for any help, guys.
Nobody has any input? I guess I can just burn them to two discs and swap them like normal?
i read this somewhere after alot of digging but basically you do the switch as normal then press the z button to trigger the read...
not every gamecube game supports this i believe....

Hi, thank you for the guide but i would now like to install some N64 WADS, how do do this? I thought throughout your instructions that this is included as I installed wads during the process. how do I now install any other wads?
You rule for this tutorial, thank you 100 fold.

My only issue is that I can't seem to get any of my backups working. I used to have a modded Wii that could play all my backups. That got stolen so I followed these instructions on another Wii and got the Homebrew Channel installed. Got some emulators running and I can install WAD's fine. The problem is that none of my backups work. My original discs work just fine but when I run backup discs from the Backup Channel, all I get is a black screen with a bunch of disc spinning. If I press the 1 button to change options, I still get the same result no matter what I do. Black screen with a lot of disc spinning.
I have 2 questions related to this:
1. Does anyone have a shot of what the Backup Loader options are supposed to look like? I've heard a lot of stuff about some kind of logo at the top and some kind of icons but I just get a list of options for loading the game (which does nothing) and customizing options. If I press B to reboot it gives me some kind of error about the menu and then just goes back to those same options.
2. Am I doing something wrong in loading these burned backups? I'm really not sure what to expect. My old Wii just allowed me to put the backups in and use the regular disc channel. This is a bit different.
Is there a resource I can read through for explanations of what IOS's are and what the numbers on them stand for? I've seen some PDF's and such and tried to find some sites explaining what they are but they all seem to be outdated. I usually like to know why I'm doing the things I'm doing.
Any help is much appreciated. I've modded other devices (PS2, PSP, etc.) but this seems like a whole different animal.
Thanks!
I have three suggestions.
1st) My friend used this guide. He did not read carefully however and on two or three of the steps when he was suposed to hit to the right and change the IOS from 249 to 136 (just examples) he did not do so. Instead he just installed the wrong files in the wrong order. you must do EXACTLY as the directions say. My friend got black screens.
2nd) When I did the guide for the first time I did not do the ENTIRE guide. I stopped as soon as I saw game launcher and home brew on the channel screen thinking I was done. I got black screens untill I did the extra steps where you downgrade then update. This made everything work perfectly.
3rd) another problem I had was my discs. The Wii does not like DVD+ media with one of the IOS files. It worked for a while then all of a sudden the Wii quit reading the +R media. I must have wasted 10 DVD's trying different downloads. Sheesh.
Hope some of this helps. I really dont know what I am doing when it comes to the Wii. Larry did a great job with the step by step directions, now I can only hope he does a version that explains what each step is for so that I can learn and start to figure this stuff out for myself.
Skyb0lt: That's *exactly* what it was. I burned the backup to a DVD-R and it worked perfectly. Now I just have to figure out if I can get some of my import games working. Is there a way to play PAL discs with this thing too?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't gotten to the part where I need to switch discs yet, but this makes sense as I have to press Z at the GCN launcher menu to boot into disc 1.

I'm going to assume English isn't your first language.
IF you have any of those things you need to disconnect them. Only if you have them. If you don't have them then don't worry

hi i am new to this site, I softmodded my wii a good while ago with the twilight hack and now running on v3.2e with any region backups loading from the disc channel. I am a bit out of touch with modding now and i am wanting to load the internet channel so i can get bbci player etc. but when i try and access the shopping channel it asks for a update. How should i go about updating or getting the internet channel so that everything still works as is. I have looked online at many sites and get conflicting info. The things that i know i have installed are:- HBC 1.01, ios16.wad, cios249rev7.wad, any region changer 1.1 m5, softmii nand dumper, preloader.28, cioscorp 1.01 .
Any help would be much appreciated,

WiFi is needed to update to 4.0 (if you haven't already) and also to download some of the IOS files. There are a few of the custom IOS installers and some of the WADs that have the ability to be installed over WiFi instead of being installed from the SD card or a HDD.
Good luck! :)

I've had good luck doing this using Nero Burning Rom and the "Copy Disc" feature!

DO NOT UPDATE DIFFERENT REGION GAMES!!!! Also you might want to turn the internet off to the WII. I updated Tiger Woods 10 and it works fine but I use the backup channel.
Exactly what order did you do the steps in. What step are you currently on.

So you've done all the steps up to the downgrade? Just keep going you are almost done it's pretty easy. Don't put any disks in until you are completely finished. As long as you aren't on LU64/65 serial you are most likely not going to brick your wii

Does it give you the option of not installing using internet? Like from SD card. i think that's what I had to do
