I get confused because the guide has been updated several times and the posts start from the original rev. I guess my questions are:

I'm still debating on doing this mod, I want to be able to play backed up games soooo bad but I want to make sure I don't wreck my wii.

1. I have my nand.bin file backed up using bootmii. If I run into problems or if my wii gets bricked will resotring the nand.bin file with bootmii restore my wii to a pre-softmod state and fix the brick?

2. Can all internet based wii games, wiiware and wii shop still be used after the softmod?

3. Is it true after doing the wii softmod that absolutely NO updates can be done to the wii either coming from a game or from Nintendo for the system itself?

4. What needs to be done to remove the softmod if I choose to remove the softmod?

5. I've read that some of the newer games will not work on the softmod. Is this true?

thanks for any advice

Sorry to keep asking questions, but I setup an sd orginally with a apps, private, wad folder, and just a plain installer elf file. I renamed it boot.elf.

When I went through every step like it said I skipped the bootmii step, but I remember seeing the options and the first one said homebrew channel frist, patchmii second, and dvdx third.

I've gone back into the homebrew channel and from my sd these are the options cios38_rev13a, cmios installer, downgrade ios35, ios downgrader, and wad manager. I want to say I have tried cmios installer, which gave me the the three options, again #2 being patchmii, not bootmii.

I've looked at the link a couple times that you suggested, but it says just unzip the mii installer onto the sd card first. Is the sd supposed to be blank?

I used also just a blank sd card add the mii installer folder and changed the file to boot.elf, then went to the homebrew channel and I get nothing just blank.

What is patchmii? How should my sd card be setup to add bootmii, what's the structure and what should I be looking for in the menu?

Sorry for the long post, I'm just one step away from being making sure I'm good to go, and thanks, for being patient. Pizzle

Update, I figured it out, had to go through the first step again to select install homebrew channel and then select bootmii, but it will only install as IOS, thanks!

I've followed Larry's guide which has been excellent. I was having trouble with playing burned ISOs so after blowing through a couple dvd's, i decided to try out the USB Loader GX. I can't get my USB to work (at first it worked sporadically but not it's not detected at all). It's Verbatim 160gb. It's listed as compatible on the site from the first post but no matter what I do it doesn't work (formatting to fat32, tried to get the wii to format by switching from a detected USB during the format process, different ports, plugging in before powering on the wii, pluggin in during the "cios 249" click to search of a usb, no game cube games, cards, or controllers plugged in).

So, I had deleted the backup channel by accident and when I reinstalled Larry changed to the Neogamma R6. I'm looking for help mostly with getting my USB HDD to work but I also want some tips on how to set the Neogamma since there are a lot of options.

Thanks ahead of time.
The next thing that I would try would be to install WFBS manager on your PC and format your hard drive from using it.

Did that first then I back tracked to reformat is fat32, then i tried again with the wbfs after the wii didn't work. Still no luck.

Looking at the game compatibility list, I need to revert to an earlier version of cIOS38. So I tried using the 'cIOS38_rev13a Installer' link within HBC (as was done originaly as per guide) and I get black screen? Why is this?

Anyway, I downloaded "IOS38-64-v3610" (which I read is rev13a) and installed using wadmanager so assume this has overwriten 13b?

But I now need rev12, so where can I get this wad, and do I just do the same?
Thanks for all the help

You can find any cIOS installer by googling its whole name.
cIOS38rev12
cIOS38rev13
cIOS36rev10
etc

"IOS38-64-v3610" isn't rev13a
IOS38-64-v3610 is the original IOS38. 3610 is a version of IOS38. (IOS38 currently has two versions 3609 and 3610) which you can see here http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS_History

You need this for cIOS38rev12, cIOS38rev13, and cIOS38rev13b. These cIOSes are all based on the original IOS38 and when you do a wad installation the installer takes this file and makes a custom out of it to put it simply.

spaine: there is a 002 error fix google it...also neogamma r6 works great with 13b and above fix...

denver: i wouldnt worry as long as preloader gets installed pretty much and problems you run into can be fixed....

staish: no mod chip required and yes following this guide will let you play backups even out of region check my vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7boagLr5Uo you can launch backups either from homebrew channel launchers/channels, usb drives are also supported and installing the cioscorp will enable disc channel play...reading ur later comments does any backup boot? what game did you try?

mopar:

1.yup pretty much bootmii preloader really anti brick apps imho kinda like the psp custom firmwares began to give us great idea....
2.backups work on the net originals work just like they would before mod...as of today 07/12/09
3.untrue lol you can allways update urself via wad manager...i also think that nintendo can "unmod your mod" but there is a debate over that...my gut tells me they are in way over their heads and it is not cost effective to combat this mod for them....
4. this can be done but i suggest againts this mod rocks
5.complete bs...i play everything that comes out along with out of region check above vid...if a game dont work for you try diff things loading from disc channel or neogamma...

I am having a little trouble with the Gamecube backup, I followed this guide, and skipped the Gamecube Section. Then used "How to Launch Backup Games From Disc Channel On" By:larrylje, link below. I burnt a gamecube game "size 1,381,543,712" and renamed file type gcm to iso. I burnt both file types, gcm and iso, and in both it starts the disc goes blue and reboots to beginning screen.I use DVD-R, and burn at 4x, if that helps...Thank for any help given. =P

Are you serious?

I wonder why your having trouble with GameCube backups.

I bet it is because you SKIPPED the GameCube section.

Those are the type of post that drive me nuts.

Hi,

I previously soft modded my Wii (PAL) and wanted to know, does the softmod allow you to play Japan and USA games?

Many Thanks,

I think the general idea is that if you got your wii after november 2008 then it wont install bootmii to boot2 it has to install as IOS. If this is the case i suggest using preloader aswell as bootmii. This is due to nintendo physically changing something on the wii (if someone knows any better and i am wrong please correct me)
