so best to wait for the
new box . less wires i assume
box 780 to pc - install update rom
box into tv - would it them be split
cable conection 1 end in the modem
other end in the box like s/view 3 kinda
and 780 has everything all under the
hood nothing else needed.
sorry for the questions just getting
info straight in my head...
ps last question .
with the new 780 will it be trackable
aka is it a gamble to get 1 or will they
be like our old boxes - good to go and go
for a bit
my s/view 3 is still good in an area
listed here as already n3..
any price guide on these 780's
or are they not ready yet

yes you can use split cable as long as the signal is good you will still need an ethernet cable from your router to your box also full time.
and 780 has everything all under the
hood nothing else needed. Just your cable feed and ethernet cable

so the ethernet cable on the box
is a new thing to me - i no its
dumb but why is that?
this refers to the 780
if your modem cable plugs into the back
of the box via splitter and the other end
goes into your modem.
why would u also need to
plug it into the router as well via ethernet ?
that would be connected twice .
are u saying its one or the other
or u have to hook it in both ways
at once

you have broadband as you are on here so the wire from your modem or your router goes into the back of the box also same as the cable from your provider goes into the box
you do not split your broadband feed you split your cable feed to the box
when you get one you will understand better

when you say 1 wire goes in to my box i presume you are talking about a cable wire
which the answer would be yes
but you need to have for kryptview 780, an ethernet coming from your computer modem/router to your new kryptview
and this wire can not be split direct from your broadband provider router to your new box
then use another cable for your computer/laptop, unless you are wireless then its ok for computer carry on as nnormal
and then put your cable wire direct in your box aswell once box is updated then you can split your cable wire only with a splitter if you wish to
if i can clear up any more or have anymore questions please ask

how do i explain this i dont use a router
never have but i still use a starview 3
i have v/media cable in my home
rather than plugging in my modem wire direct
into my modem - it is screwed into a
2 way splitter. on the other end of the
splitter is 2 - 3ft extension cables.
1 of them screws into my v/media modem.
and the other screws into my
s/view 3 box - thus splitting my
modem connection between the 2
that wont work on a krytp 780 ?
or do you mean to update the box on first
run i have to be direct into the pc
update box then i can use my cable splitter
to go into modem / box
just like i have now
or does the new box require i use a router
with ethernet - which is just the same as
using a splitter cable but without using
an ethernet cable and router.
is it one or the other - or either 1 will
work

A router is a modem as explained to you above, dont be confusing splitting your vm cable with what is described above, just run a lan cable from your modem to the Krypt or the SV6, whichever you choose and thats it, on the back of your modum you have ethernet ports, run a ethernet cable from one of these to the ICONNECT or whatever LAN based box and thats it, your connected, jobs OXO
@mantas - do you actually read anything that people tell you??? You were told they work after asking various times, you asked where to get one? you were told on the previous page where and a link posted for you, we are not here to spoonfeed people or hold their hands for them, read the bloody thread and the info you were given

The lads will probably better answer this for you but what exactly are you saying when you say modem???
Your current Starview channels will be lost when N3 rolls out in your area (unless its a new SV6).
What the lads are trying to say (I hope :-)) is the A750 will need that VM cable connected to it plus you'll need the iConnect box with an internet connection for it to work.
For the A780 you don't need the iConnect - just the LAN & cable connection...

On the money Janey, the OP is confusing cables, a simple lan cable from modum to ICONNECT or SV6 is all it takes

jammo2002.
Just an addition to MICKAH'S post, if you only have one ethernet port on your Virgin modem, and you are already using that to connect to your computer, you will just need to use the USB connection to the PC instead so you free up the ethernet for the digital box\Iconnecter.

Then wouldn't the pc have to be constantly turned on also - would a small hub connected to the modem suffice for this? Leaving a cable for the PC when needed & 1 for the box?

yes on the button a ethernet hub or a router would be his best buy if he only has 1 lan port coming from his virgin modem

all this refers to the new 780 box
the all in 1 box
so that kinda asnwered my question
so i guess unlike the s/view 3
that runs of a screw in attatchemnt
cable of your v/media cable line
you have to use ethernet cable for
the new 780 box ?
thats all i asked from the start
will the new 780 simply let me
screw in the same cable i have in
the s/view 3 into the 780 to work
as at the moment using the s/view 3
it requires no router just a split of
cable from your vm cable line to screw
into the back of it..
your saying this feature is not available
on the new 780 box and must there for
buy an ethernet cable and a router to
do exactly the same job

Not at all, it will not matter if the PC is on or off. if the NTL modem has one USB and one Ethernet port (as mine does), USB to PC, Ethernet to Box. Both cables should have been supplied with the modem. Dont see the need for extra outlay and hardware.

you are always best of using a router anyway safer and yes you are correct he should have both cables that of course is down to where he also has the modem in the house to where the tv is of course or else he will also need hotplugs or a bridge to the box.
he is better of getting the box then see what he needs as he is only confusing himself here unless he sees the box he wont understand

Yes & obviously he can buy with confidence knowing that all cables etc are available for him to resolve his situation once the royal mail man arrives to the door with his new card to kill his SV3...
