Thanks pat as you know you and fint helped me to get set up and it did not take me to long with your great detailed help and i am not great with a pc far from it..
i will second that 1

as I said before, everyones opinion counts, be cable or sat or cs etc, but thats it, an opinion, its been given, let the folks decide themselves what they want to do or dont and stop taking things personal and getting personal about it, if you cant agree, get over it, more important things in life than cables box or sat boxs

god, i'll have to drop a few octaves but i tend to agree with e45 in what he says. yes, it is true that cable is an easier solution to get setup on. its just a simple flash of the kv system, a scan and off you go. but e45, please take into account that this thread is for sat users (as per thread heading). i take what piopat says about dm500c and dm500s, there is little difference, the dreambox is a complicated beast. but the kv really is brain dead stuff. so i agree with e45 on this truth. as i have always said my issue is not with the kv but rather with using a large (sought after) server. i have always said that it is the users choice. however e45 please redirect your comments back to kv threads. many thanks

dan a pvr box for £100 is a bit of tall order (and i assume you want a box for sharing )but if you only want sd channels there is the dm600 ,or if you want hd you could look at the skybox s9 hd ,you should get either within or near your £100 budget . the skybox s9 is ok for use as a client (with a c line ) but not as a server atleast not yet .

Hi, I've been gathering info as a dreambox 500s newbie following the death of my Eurovox and the Kryptview boxes have given me hope! The ease of use without having to share anything previously drew me to the Eurovox which did it's job brilliantly for over 4 years for me.. now I'm finding that without something to share, the dreambox is hard work!
My Eurovox has retired to the loft but I was wondering if in the not so distant future, someone may develop software along with some sort of iconnector for the Eurovox to make it work like the Kryptview a750.
Has this not been done yet because the Eurovox isn't a linux box? .. or is it? Is it just that the box isn't upto it hardware-wise (ignoring the fact there is no LAN socket)?
You guys, particularly e45, hooter007 and piopat seem the most knowledgable on the 'boxes' so far so I'm hoping someone has ideas for discussion.
hope you don't mind me asking these questions in the middle of this thread.

well, as one of the more uneducated ones yes it is true that the dreambox is a tough starter. took me i would guess 15 months to even get a picture on cable. lot of effort. want a cheap solution then use the kv, want a safe solution then read the posts!!!!!

dan you load the firmware on to the s9 via usb memory stick ,if your getting by with your dreambox you should be fine with the s9 .its had a few glitches but a recent firmware upgrade has sorted most of them the picture quality they say is pretty good but the menus are poor but then it is a budget box .

Hi There,
Joining in on a few forums as have just purchased my new Dreambox 500s. So many guides around that im slowly gettin to grips with usage.
Flashed box, installed all FTA channels. I am linked up to a communal satellite in the building so I know I am going to be limited to possibilities but you have to start somewhere.
I've managed to set up streaming from PC, just not the other way yet and working on the countless other options available.

As mikhab has said eurovox is well out of the making of cable boxes so im afraid you will have to stick to one of the working cable boxes at the present time there are now 5 to choose from so that is where you will have to go to get channels on cable
Kryptview A750 / A780
Starview 6 Lan
Starview 7 + connector
Starview Combo which is a combined cable and Sat box and HD
DDigital duo
All of the above work on N3 encryption at the present time all other cable boxes are for the waste recycle bin.

I'm about where you are except I've joined Eurocardsharing and some people shared their C line with me. Unfortunately, I was just using someone elses sky card and they needed it back so now no one is sharing with me (fair enough I suppose!)
maybe someone here can advise... since this is, as fintannl stated in last post, a Sat thread... Can I share the viewing card you can get from sky for £20?

Just to let you know, how i'm getting on with the 800, what a laugh.
Here is the reply from DREAMINTHEBOX.
Hi,
Nothing wrong with the tuner, what are you asking for a tuner for? And the noises was made by your inappropriate operation (open the back cover and move the tuner, then the tuner blocks the fan.)
You need to plug in the power cord fast, then it will be on normally,if can not, wait 1-2 minutes and then try again. All dreambox from us are the same, even you get a new replacement from us.
Due to no defect on functions,we won't offer you a refund or a replacement. If you insist, please send it back for a replacement, but you need to pay all the shipping cost.If you agree, please return only the dreambox(except all accessories and box)
,wrap it well and send them by postal service, address to return:
This is from a company that wants your hard earned cash, uugggh.

Always the way you buy outside the Uk or Ireland you always have to pay the postage both ways tbh if you cant get locally i would not bother as by the time all the p&p is paid and all the time wasted sending and waiting on the return of the box you would have a new one bought not worth the hassle same with cable boxes you have to pay both ways should your box brake down or go faulty

Yeah, the problem is that in total i'm down 230 euro, I will keep hassling them to see what they are going to do, at the end of the day you are not going to buy a box from this crowd, if the response is going to be like this, I can get at a tunar myself quite easily, and cheap. It would be better than sending through the post, and it would only cost a few euro more, with the knowledge that it can sent back to the uk if there is a problem, at a reasonable price.

As I said folks, this could end up running longer than 'Eastenders'
have a goo at this, from the company.
Hi,
Sorry, the only way is to return and we send you a replacement.Any other customs do it. If you don't want, you lose your warranty.I think we can pay the shipping cost from China to you.Only the dreambox(except all accessories and box) back please. Wrap it well and send by the cheap postal service.
Keep the tuner away from the fan, then it won;t make noises.
Regards,

get yourself a USB to serial adaptor cable here then attach your null modem cable.
