The DONGLE will connect box to router wirelessly so P.C. doesn't need
to be in same room as box, once it's in same house it will hook up O.K
BELKIN dongle works with dream 500 so try other dongles before you
spend on STVU dongle

Eamo, would you have a link to the Belkin one by any chance ? Can only find USB dongles?
I take it the USB connection on the starview one supplies the power to the dongle ?
Whatever you say, say nothing when you talk about you know what for if you know who might hear you, you know what youll get. Youll be sent off to you know where for you would not know how long. Maybe I could search through the threads so you dont have to ??

Belkin dongle is USB type, needs LAN-USB adaptor to work on dreambox.
Have not seen STVU dongle but assume it connects to LAN & not USB port.

It appears to have a USB plug and a DC type plug as well as the RJ45, was thinking it must take the power from the USB on the box to power the dongle, as there would be no power from the RJ45 socket on the box.

LAN will not supply power. USB gives 5V. Am at a loss to explain why a seperate power connection is required as USB should supply the necessary power? can anyone clarify

Was thinking maybe you can use an external power supply, instead of using the USB socket on the box. Just so you can use a USB drive with the box. ?

I imagine using external 5V supply you need LAN-USB adaptor to connect network to box, to keep USB-port free for recording programs.
Would be helpful if SV6 had 5V jack to connect power to dongle.

You have the choice of either powering it using the USB or an external power supply so as you say you can still use the USB port for recording etc.
So you connect the LAN cable to the receiver for communication and the USB for power unless you have the external supply which means the USB connector becomes redundant
It's Starview all the way now!!!!

Seriously though, what?s the advantage of having all those channels? There?s usually nothing on and if there is you have to sit through Ads for most of it and they repeat programmes way to much, inevitably with all those channels you end up watching nothing, instead you just surf for a couple of hours looking for something to watch..Whats the point? Set up utorrent to download all your favourite shows and latest movies and watch sports on p2p, this way you are never disappointed there?s no Ads and you pay for nothing, I?m really missing the point of these boxes probably because there is no real point anymore.

Please be aware that upc are now sniffing on their bb service and are throttling some services to combat the c/s servers this will happen more and more so if you have upc BB and you are using the Sv6 box via lan change your BB provider or you will have problems

Guitar, I would suggest you do as Mooley said. I don't have an SV6 but as far as I can see the members have covered every angle and have been extremely helpful to all. So rather than accusing do make a bit of effort before posting such a response. There are far too many users who want all the answers with no effort whatsoever. Members are always willing to help those who have shown some effort but not to those who consider this forum as being their godgiven right to get all the answers with no effort an their own behalf
