Hi Lads (and Ladies),
Been outta the loop for a while. I think I replied to this thread way back in it's infancy. Anyway, whats the story with these Starview 6? Do you still need to go through the whole c/s thing to get channels or is there some new thing out?
Thanks.

Ok.
So I my perception was fairly much on target, except for the fact that there seems to be some Starview C/S.
Also, can anyone shed some light on the whole one year thing. Is it that you get a one year access to the Starview server as I would think it is impossible to put some sort of timer on the box from the first power on.
If I guess is correct, then after one year could you not just subscribe to a different server?
Please bear with me. Thanks.

when you buy the box you are connected from that day for 12 months then you bin that box and reinvest in a new one the price includes sub for one year

this can be only true if th IP of the share is hardcoded on the box. if you can change the IP then there is no reason to bin as you can change your share at will

Do you think Starview have over looked this ??? dont think so you will not be able to use that box on any other C/S now where would they money be in that for them.
That is the whole idea behind this box get 1 year and buy another thats how there revenue is generated.

fintannl anyway in all fairness if i was to get a year out of this for that price i would be more than happy to bin it if a new replacement would do the same again, remember a sly sub for same chans will cost approx 900/1000 euros

If it is anything like C/S on a dream, I would imagine that all they would have to do is change the settings required for a config file and given that you cannot access this, you would not be able to change it to the new settings and would therefore need a new box !!!!!!

Just read this whole thread, some interesting stuff & some interesting posts. You can't go wrong with the addicts here & local residents on here... good stuff guys. I wonder whatever happened to "theman111", he never showed up for his big 6pm presentation - I do hope he's ok :-) !!!
I was contemplating getting the SV6 (thanks for the PM's) to avail of the cable service but the drawbacks are the absence of HD & having to bin another box after a year...(or less), and possibly having to change my ISP from you know who....just in case they're tracking the IP to the SV c/s server!!!
I reckon the best, sure way is to set-up a private c/s service between family/friends. Someone pay the full subscription to sly & broadcast it to the small group. You'd need a satellite pointed to astra, HD receiver & internet connected. There is the initial setup costs for the satellite & HD receiver (plus chipping in for the subscriotion) but I've seen it working & it's fantastic.
But I'd say I'm missing a few drawbacks to this too, no?

Well I didn't really have a question in my above post. I more or less just made a statement. I thought I'd add my tuppence-worth on the StarView future proof subject after my long read!!! :-)
You'll see I did acknowledge PM's (meaning posts & other input from the previous thread) in my post...

Here is my story lads any help would be great.
I am going to get a starview 6 but I need some info please, I also need a new internet provider as I have just told U*C to get stuffed, will the SV6 work with one of those 3G or Meteor bill pay toggles(the ones that work anywhere) or do you need a wireless connection?
Any advice on a internet connection to get that will work the box, and at the same time allow the kids to use internet, any advice or a PM would be great. Thanks.

Na you will need a proper connection Dave as the box wont understand what to do
with the Dongle from Meteor or what ever
so you need a stable connection Imagine are supposedly good or Magnet why ya drop upc

You can use one of those if you have it plugged into your laptop/pc and turn on Internet Sharing and then run an ethernet connection to the box. How reliable that is though is anyones guess as they do tend to fluctuate randomly in bandwidth. One or two on here are using it this way and I have used one temporarily on a sat box.
Please, please, please use the search box at top right of site before asking a question that has already been answered.

@ Dubfella
Are you using the meteor dongle as described above (via a laptop) or have you discovered another wrinkle?
