It's kind of hard for me to hide mine, it's right in plain sight in my PC/Recording studio room, if my wife walks in I'm caught. I have a 400 watt RMS surround system which I love to listen to music on, so if she enters, I'll never hear her coming. I'm viewing it all on a 22" monitor.

That picture on a 22" monitor is a scary thought.
Due to power concerns my 21" crt is usually off and the 18" lcd is on. I like to use them both but I'm not in the office as often as I used to be.

If she sneaks up behind me I'm done. It's a CRT too so it wouldn't be much larger than a 21" and maybe not at all. It's a viewsonic P225f. I want an LCD but they just don't get subtleties of color right and what color you do get is too bright. CRT's also have the high res advantage but they're big as hell.

you're not gonna believe this! My new copy of Ned Kelly has no errors! Decrypter ripped it fine with no problems whatsoever! Without beta anydvd running! Then I ran it thru shrink, no errors!
All I have now are the files from my 1st rip with decrypter on my original dvd. They are missing the VTS_01_3 files.
Now, what do you make of that?

I expected that there?d be some good pressings of Ned Kelly but the one I got wasn?t one of them.
Donald
I received it today and immediately tried to rip Ned Kelly at full speed and the flaw showed up in VTS_01_3 at 87%. I opened Decrypter and chose settings then at the bottom left I chose check for structure protection? and set it to aggressive (I?m making no claims for this setting) and then ripped VTS_01_3 at 2X in my PLex with no problems in under six minutes. I then highlighted all the files that came before VTS_01_3 and ripped at full speed and then did the same with all the ones that came after. To final I dragged the orphaned VTS_01_3 into the same folder and It all worked. Total time to rip was 21 minutes.

I was going to try it at 4X but that would've taken time if it didn't work. I'll try for a higher speed on the weekend. I'd like to also mention that I ripped it with my Plex PX-712A and I think that burners are more accurate readers than just readers'.

Have you ever enabled the "SpeedRead" function in Devices for your Plex?
I would agree about readers and burners. I have an older Mitsubishi DVD ROM and it isn't as good as my Sony DRU 530A burner. It will encounter errors the Sony won't. ROM age shouldn't make a difference. I know that there are those with some pretty strong feelings about their readers, and claim they are protecting the useful life of their burners by using one. However, most burners have a MTBF between 60,000 to 100,000 hrs. For me, I could rip/burn 10 DVD's every single day for the next 50 years before I expecting a failure.

Yes but it wasn't enabled for this. I rarely use my burner for ripping because I have a pretty good reader. I'm using the 16X DVD read 52X CDR Samsung SM-352 retail combo drive with 8 megs of buffer. When I think I'm faced with a disc that might have a physical flaw, then I use my Plex.
I'm one of those that claim that I'm protecting the life of my burner. I've heard of a lot of burners going down after a couple of hundred or so burns.
They never last as long as their manufacturers claim.

I'd be careful about using the word wise around this bunch, it might go to some of their heads. Let's call it the collected experience of others.:)
It's been a while since I've so much activity, of course in my world that's 5 posts and a beer.

Yeah, it has been busy today. And the "Are You" thread is also prospering. It now has half the number of posts this thread has. It might give all of us "Addict" status.

Sophocles,
The agressive setting doesn't seem to have any effect on Ned Kelly. The speed slow down was the only way to record it for me. Unfortunately My drives won't do 2x. They bump it down to 1x if you mod the speed.
