DMA settings can be made in Device Manager. Your hard disk should read as DMA 5 not 2. You should also note that you DVD or CD rom shouldn't be on the same channel as you hard disk.

Go to My computer at the top of your screen. right click, then choose hardware, then device manger and a window will popup. In the list look for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and click on the + to expand it. Right click on primary IDE channel and choose properties then at the top advanced settings. Under Device 0 go to transfer mode and pull down the arrow and choose DMA if available. Then go to device 1 and under device type choose Auto detection and then under transfer mode choose DMA if available. When you are finished do the same with your secondary IDE channel and then Reboot.

If this doesn't work then you have to go into setup (bios) and select DMA there, depending on who makes your bios it should be under the advanced tab.

Since you mentioned problems with SP2 I've been on the lookout for others with problems. It seems there are many. It will also update even with updates turned off. MS offers a fix to delay installation. Here is the link:

Hi Doc409

I seem to be getting faster encoding times if I use files on HD in Shrink. Nero is still not included as an option with Shrink. I'd rather have the faster encoding and not have the option of Nero burning thru Shrink so I've given up finding a solution to that. Thanks again for all your help.
