Het,kcee...
If you read this forum you'll find the answer, i'm sure. Still, I think that's 'cause you have the driver messed up. Here's the instructions that helped me (it was posted here already by one of the guys) it's for the razr phone but that doesnt matter 'cause it shows you how to install the driver properly. Just follow this:
Quote:
If you guys or gals are having problems with the MPT Initializing... your phone, I have figured out how to do it. I have Windows XP SP2.

Before you start any of this, make sure that your phone is not plugged into the USB connection. Make it seem as if the phone and the computer were never together.

1. Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager.
2. Expand "Modems" and make sure that there are not any unusual modems under the expanded category. In other words, only ONE should be installed and it should be the modem that is in your computer, nothing else.
3. Download and Install MPT v3.11. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL YOUR PHONE. When it asks to detect your phone, click cancel.
4. The default phone picture will come up. Now, go to Menu-->Setup-->Live Update. Follow the prompts to detect, download and install MPT v3.25b.
5. Do not launch MPT. Make sure the program is closed.
6. NOW, plug your phone into your computer via the mini-USB cable. Your computer should detect "New Hardware." Your computer will prompt you to install the software. It will ask you if you want the computer to search for you (Recommended) or it will ask you if you want to manually select the software from a list (Advanced). Make sure you go to the option that allows you to select from a list.
7. It will ask you to search your computer hard drive. You need to direct it to the driver that comes in the MPT v3.25b you just installed. Click BROWSE. The folder you are looking for is titled "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers". It will most likely be in "C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf".
8. Once you have directed the computer to search for the driver in "W2K_XP_USB_Drivers", click on INSTALL or NEXT to continue with the "search and installation" of the phone. It should say "Motorola USB Modem" as it is installing.
9. Allow the entire process to complete. Once it is done and you have clicked FINISH, unplug your phone from the USB cable and power it OFF.
10. Turn your phone back on and allow it to cycle to the main screen.
11. Plug your USB cable back into your phone and make sure it is connected to the computer. Your phone should start charging.
12. NOW, start MPT and and the program should automatically detect your phone and start the initiallizing. In a few seconds you should be up and running.

I have spent hours figuring this out. I have since followed these steps to the T on 2 seperate computers and have been very successful, with no problems, on the first installation attempts. If you have any questions or need clarification on the steps, let me know and I will try to go into even more detail. Good luck
PS: If Windows doesn't prompt you to "found new hardware" then go to Device Manager and Update the driver on the Motorola Modem #? (3,4,5 Depends which USB port you have the cable attached). Point Windows to the driver from the Mobile Phone Tools (see step 7)
Good luck!

Stupid is a stupid does!

Do I need MPT to charge my Razr V3 from a non moto usb charger? I have a wall and car usb charger for my iPod and the right cable, but the phone doesn't charge. Does MPT install stuff to the phone? I don't use windows in my daily life, I can use/find one to install the software if it's a one time deal.
Thanks much.

WOW - what a thread!!

I thought I was doing sooooo well, but I'm now stuck at a problem and I've read so much about MPT & drivers on various forums over the last few days, that everything has become a blur!!

If I tell you what stage I'm at, I would appreciate a few pointers in the right direction -

I've downloaded MPT 3.23 & live updated to 3.28
I've set my modem port as the Motorola USB cable
I've manually selected ROKR E1 (& E1 itunes for another try)

I'm now at the stage where I get an icon on the phone screen (on the PC) telling me my mobile is not connected.

I've also had a message telling me my "Device has been identified but not recognised" (even tho its on the list!) - Is this a driver issue??

My phone, by the way is the ROKR E1 and my operating system is windows 98 SE.

Thanks in advance

OK, I am very confused.

Here is my situation:

I have:
Motorola E815
Motorola usb data cable
Windows XP Home, SP 2
Pentium 4

I want to trasfer ringtones and pictures. Preferably with MPT or P2K.

My problem(s): I don't have the software. All the links in this thread are making like iPods and becoming obselete the moment I click on them. I need to know what software I need, where I can get it, and how to set it up. My computer tells me the the usb drivers are all sorted out, and the add new hardware wizard says that everything's fine there. Please someone give me step-by-step instructions, but don't point me to other threads or that "Moto Hacking Bible", although that does have a lot of information. That information, however, has chosen not to work with me.

Thank you,
sjm96

OK, well I figured everything out as far as MPT goes...

I have to warn some of you, even if you get MPT working you may be disappointed... You can access the "Multimedia" application in the program's directory, but it might not be worth it. Some phones just will just not allow you to send multimedia to the phone. Everything else (eg. phonebook, calendar) works fine.

I have to admit, the links in this thread are all obselete. All I can say is seach for a torrent in Google, and make sure to include the correct version in your search string (v3.11). Don't even try any of the links in this thread ;-)

Here's what I did with my Motorola E815 (If you have a different phone, these instructions should still work for you): follow the first post on this page (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/26/122174) until you get to the bold instructions. Follow those. After I did that my phone worked fine. Make sure that you install your phone before you start MPT. You can check by going to (in XP): Control Panel (Classic View) > Phone and Modem Options > Modems tab. Once installed properly, you should see something like "Motorola USB Modem". Make sure that you re-start your phone. That really makes a difference. (Or it did for me, anyway...)

I don't really understant all this Vxxx stuff, but I followed the instructions and it worked fine. All I can say is make sure that you Live Update to 3.25b! That is very important! When the picture of a phone comes up, go to Menu > Setup > Live Update, even if when you install it says it is doing a Live Update. If you cannot see a Motorola USB Modem or something close to it in Modem and Phone options, don't try to get MPT to recognize your phone. I have found that it is much easier to install the phone manually than waiting ages for MPT to finally say that it can't do it for you!

If you go into the program's directory (C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools), you can see all the executables. I find it is easier to access the various applications here than through the MPT function panel. For example, MMCenter.exe will run by itself and recognize your phone, allowing you to do whatever your phone it enabled to do. I couldn't find this program through the main MPT executable! :-p

And even though I have gone through all the trouble of finding software, it doesn't even work with my phone (media-wise, anyway)... Hope everyone else has better luck!!! :-)

hi

i bought a v180 8 months back from cingular , now i have temporarily
moved to india , i got the network lock removed from expert hackers
but still the cingular logo remains in the outside lcd screen as well
as in menu , browser how to reemove it ?

so in order to try myself i bought mobile phone tools (pirated) as well as a generic usb data cable ,

i have some problems
1) after installation of MPT it says to connect mobile phone , when i do so the O.S recognises mobile phone and installs drivers automatically and iin Phone and modem options there is another
modem called "motorola usb modem " attached to com4

but ! the MPT abruptly stops installation and asks to connect mobile phone again inspite of it already connected

2) then it gives a warning message if i cancel it , and then a
phone will pop up which is not v180 and it says " phone image not available " and " initializing"

what should i do ?????????

my system config is

AMD athlon 1700 ,
windows 2000 sp 4, i have motorola modem in com3

This link appears to have the installer for MPT 3.23, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. The MPT install also normally includes the p2k driver. just point the found new hardware wizard to the inf folder in the MPT program folder and windows should install the driver.
